In Pirates there's also this part where the monkey with the time cards is told to be quiet, and he pulls out another time card but the font is just smaller. I forgot to mention that, but felt it was important :]

Early Man was a great concept for a movie. But then it becomes a football movie and it's like....ok? I like the idea of the Bronze Age just coming along and replacing cavemen like that but I guess that's about it. But yeah, I suspected it'll be the lowest movie on the list, and it was.

My personal favourite is definitely Arthur Christmas as I not only think that it’s incredibly funny and creative but I also think that it’s their strongest film thematically thanks to its ideas of tradition and idolisation which have really stuck with me over the years But I love most of their work. As a Brit, Aardman holds a special place in my heart

I tried watching it last Christmas and I couldn’t get into it. Maybe it’s because I am American and the jokes and humor doesn’t land, which is weird, because I love the other movies that Aardman has to offer.

Actually… the reason why flushed away was CG wasn’t because of the Aardman warehouse fire, or anything else. It was pushed by Jeffrey Kattenburg for the movie to be CG and movie be more “Americanized” because people “wouldn’t get British humor”

I hate how they stopped having theatrical releases and blu-rays. I just wanna watch the new Wallace and Gromit and have the video quality not be shit.

I do as well, but tragically it IS understandable, especially over here in the states. I think they were kinda riding on Early Man being a hit to determine if it was even worth continuing to do overseas theatrical releases, aaaaand yeaaaah it bombed. I really do miss it though.

I have seen 7 of these movies, and with the exception of Early Man wich I still quite enjoy when it's played for some reason, all of them are some of my favourite pieces of media ever made, only makes me more excited for the 3 I'm missing to see

Curse of the Were Rabbit is my absolute favourite of their films, and Vengeance Most Fowl was also really good. Early Man deserves a bit more credit even if it’s less memorable on the whole, and I don’t mind The Pirates in an adventure with scientists.

Chicken run in 6th is borderline slander, I love flushed away personally and would put it higher, but objectively I agree with the 7/10, the new W&G I thought was too long and would have been better as an hour long special, agree with the bottom 2 but I think I'd put Early Man above chicken run 2 soley because I really feel like chicken run 2 didn't do anything new and didn't need to exist and Early Man had more laughs from me

Hot take but I don't like ware-rabbit as much as other Wallace and gromit media. Something about it feels really Americanised. I think it's what America wants Wallace and Gromit to be and something about it just doesn't feel right after you know how much DreamWorks pushed for it to be as universally sellable as possible. Every other Wallace and Gromit short and film feels so unapologetically British and there are tons of gags throughout the series that reference British culture that would go over an international audience's head. Like it or not, the british-ness is what gives aardman their charm

I also heard the same that they struggled a bit working with DreamWorks and they weren't allowed as much freedom as with the BBC. But I think the end product is brilliant and it's my favourite film of theirs, if you're going to do a W&G movie then you have to go a bit bigger with it and I think they did that perfectly without losing the charm of the shorts. I'm curious as to what you felt was 'americanised', they have a veg competition, a bobby, a priest and village church, a country manor etc etc feels pretty British to me.

@@nathonso_edits Throwing out a guess but it might be that all the britishness in the movie are stereotypical british rather than anything more down to earth So british from americas point of view and anything in it had to be what americans can understand too rather than something that might exclusively be experienced by britons I agree but i find it difficult to put a finger on it, so this is my best guess

For me as a British person, Curse of the Were-Rabbit never felt terribly Americanised as it seemed to be wearing its Hammer Horror references on its sleeve. Victor Quartermaine could've been played by Christopher Lee or Peter Cushing and it would've worked phenomenally. I feel the Americanisms are featured heavily throughout the first three, especially the gunfight on the train in The Wrong Trousers being lifted from Old West adventure serials or the actual Terminator in Close Shave. This isn't to say they are covered in British quirk, but the influence of American media on the others can't be understated.

My ranking: (There are some unpopular opinions here and there) #10. Arthur Christmas #9. Early Man #8. Chicken Run: Dawn Of The Nugget #7. Chicken Run #6. Wallace And Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl #5. Farmageddon: A Shaun The Sheep Movie #4. Shaun The Sheep Movie #3. The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists! a.k.a The Pirates! Band Of Misfits #2. Flushed Away #1. Wallace And Gromit: The Curse Of The Were-Rabbit Overall, I quite enjoy Aardman's feature film output. There's only one film of the bunch that I'm not a fan of, but the rest range from entertaining enough to being big animation highlights. But if anyone wants to know my further thoughts on any of these, feel free to politely and civilly ask.
