Some of the things that Trevor did are kinda justifiable though, by justifiiable I mean that he did it because he was provocated first, such as killing Floyd and his wife because they tried to kill him first or cutting off Madrazo's ear and kidnapping his wife because Madrazo's didn't want to pay him. I know Trevor is evil and crazy but it also shows redeeming qualities like his loyalty and the respect he shows to people that don't fear him so like he's still the most evil by far but I think he isn't pure evil though.

I wanna go to bat for Niko. Niko grew up in a warzone. He had to kill to survive. And once the war was over, Niko was probably thrown back to society with little to nothing in terms of opportunities. So he did what he knew how to do. Which is hurt people. Once he gets to Liberty City a lot of Niko's story, while violent is just him trying to make a life. And life keeps pulling him back in. A lot of the time Niko acts he doesn't have a choice. It's clear from the get go that while looking for Darko, Niko also just want to be at peace. And then there's the mention of Redemption. Niko does seek redemption. He seeks to find a way to be at peace with himself. And he does. GTAV has hints that Niko is just living a life now. With no crime at all. He works with Roman's cab business which hints that the Revenge ending is the canon one. He still hangs out with little Jacob, and Brucie. But Niko is just... Niko. He cut off "Friends" that would keep trying to drag him back into the life, Packie being the perfect example. Packie in V is just a two bit, fallen from grace robber. But Niko turned his life around. And I think that should count for something.

Its quite evident in the story that he is a man who actually cares about people and values their humanity despite his callous and ruthless behavior. Its quite a paradox really since how could you care about people while being a cold-blooded murderer Michelle said that even though he was a killer that he was alot better and kinder than the other dudes she had dated. He also sympathizes with Faustins wife and listens to her because he knows that Faustin is an abusive narcissistic asshole. He also felt horrible when he found out that she lost everything after he killed Faustin and the absolute monster that is Dimitri Rascalov had betrayed them. Sidenote Dimitri is arguably the most evil antagonist in any GTA ever. He is a manipulative, cold, exploitative, parasitic, brutal, ruthless, selfish and spineless coward Niko clearly suffered from PTSD, depression and was a self-loathing mess after the war. He isnt a good person by any extent of imagination, but he isnt in my opinion a bad person either atleast in heart. He does alot of evil shit and if I go by the thing I usually judge people with i.e their actions then he is a terrible and dangerous individual.

One thing you forgot about Trevor is the fact that he goes on rampages when anyone calls him a Canadian or mentions anything about his mother. He can also kidnap people who ask him for transport and literally sell them to a cult. His first meeting with Michael involved shooting a guy with a flare gun in his eye and literally cooking him alive. It's also implied that he kidnaps random people and executes them in the most heinous ways possible. He broke into a military base to steal a helicopter, he wiped out an entire private milicia, he smuggled weapons and took out rival gangs by literally bombing them from a plane, he takes out multiple gangs almost singlehandedly. It's also implied that he regularly molests people and as ge says: "It's not molesting if they are lonely, it's patriotism". Oh, and he also tortured a guy.

The riot isn't directly CJ's cause tho. It was because Tenpenny got acquitted from C.R.A.S.H's role in severe police corruption and brutality which was a total mimicking of the 1992 LA Riots. CJ didn't kill reporters for that to happen. It already happened, automatically. Niko ALSO did not leave the Russian Bratva but was forced to. Roman owed Vlad alot of money and in the process, Niko has to work for Vlad in order to cover for Roman's gambling debt and the whole time this was happening, Niko had no idea that Faustin or at least at that point, Dimitri was in connection with Bulgarin. So he kept on working till he found out about how Vlad was basically sexually abusing Valerie as a promise that he wouldn't kill or at least attempt to injure Roman despite the debt. This got Niko to kill Vlad once and for all as he's pushing both Roman and himself towards the wall. Once Vlad was gone, Faustin and Dimitri came into the picture and started to force Niko to work for them due to him killing Vlad, their sworn-in lieutenant. After couple of works and twist and turns, Faustin got more and more deranged and unstable thus Dimitri took this chance, sold a fever dream to Niko and asked him to kill Faustin on the pretext that another Russian mob boss, Petrovic, had issue a pardon to Niko for the murder he did on the calls of Faustin if he did Faustin in himself which, Niko did. HOWEVER, turns out Faustin's warnings to Niko about Dimitri being greedy and might be a double headed snake turned out to be correct as he instantly flipped Niko out to not only Bulgarin but also label him public enemy no.1 across the whole of Hove Beach territory that's held by the Faustin Bratva. So in a way, Niko didn't leave but was betrayed and excommunicated out of the organization by Dimitri Rascalov. And why the hell is Trevor in very bad and Toni in "evil"? Trevor did way more things that's way more fucked up than Toni. Like you said, the only mark that Toni had was that weird game on the ship with the chainsaw and his work was all down to what a normal mobster would do. Murdering the mayor was to save his boss, Salvatore Leone and to bomb Fort Staten isn't just because Donald Love wants that plot of land for cheap but also it was them that ruined the Leone Family by snitching on Salvatore to the feds which caused him to be locked up and also to the press about Donald's connections with the Leone thus it's a double motive on why both sides wanted the Forellis gone and what better way was to just "remove" their HQ. That two point was Toni's worst stain. HOWEVER, Trevor got more.. WAY more. He consistently does drugs, terrorizes enemies and even civilians all the time, psychorages and murders tons of people (That skull stranger and freaks side mission you do when controlling Trevor), suspected cannibalism, practical kidnapping, inducing emotional trauma and hostage, armed robbery, sexual abuse etc etc etc. Soo many dark spots and you chose to put Toni up higher than Trevor. No... Just... No.

Meh. End of the day Toni was still out for money and self. Niko on the other hand, he was a survivor, and ultimately set himself up to cut out his life of harm and did so successfully. Honestly, Franklin and CJ's material circumstances not taken into account, the only person that should be anywhere near "good" is Niko. CJ gets a minor pass when you consider that he probably started banging in his youth as a means of survival. That said, everything he does post Las Venturas is unnecessary and ultimately shows that his quest for vengeance overcame him to some degree, and his quest for money and power did as well. Franklin is in a unique boat as well, however much of his activity stems from a genuine desire to do those things, made perfectly evident in GTA online when he yearns to return to his old way. Literally everyone else started a cold blooded murderer and ended a cold blooded murderer, for the sole pursuits of money and power. Claude, by far being the epitome of an uncaring sociopath.

Meh. Online protag either starts as a former crime boss or is some kid fresh off a plane. Most of the Online missions have you doing the same sorts of stuff Franklin and Michael do during GTA 5. The online protag just performs a series of heists escalating in intensity from small-time to working with the government to take down some very bad people - alongside running some businesses like the Motorcycle Club, Corporation, Smuggler Hangar, Gunrunning business, and Nightclub, where the Protag is mostly stealing a variety of both illegal and legal goods (often from criminals or organizations like Merryweather), producing their own narcotics, and selling to various buyers around Southern San Andreas. Online protag also runs a variety of semi-legal businesses like the Celebrity Protection business and Auto Shop, and runs some legal businesses like the Bail Office. The Online Protagonist is just a bit of a sociopath but they never do anything overtly egregious as far as I know - but I also haven't played a fair bit of the newer content

I think by today's standard Claude should be tied with Tony for who would be the most evil. Dude's a straight up psychopath. One minute, he's nodding emotionlessly at you as you explain your problems, the next he's burning you alive with a flamethrower because some homeless guy told him to. Absolutely unpredictable and holds zero regard for human life whatsoever. Plus, he contributed to a huge amount of people unknowingly committing cannibalism, probably causing many people to suffer the terrible symptoms of CJD. I don't think any GTA protagonist since GTA 3 is pure evil. They all have redeeming qualities, and somehow understandable backstories. And none of them is good or morally grey either, they're all mass murderers and have no problem wrecking havoc after all. But if I have to rank, it would be Evil : Tommy, CJ, Toni and Trevor Very Bad : Claude Bad : Niko, Johnny and Michael Pretty Bad : Victor, Luis and Franklin Claude is not the most evil just because he has no emotion, hesitation nor showed much warmness as others, other 4 protagonists who I put on evil tier did much worse things, killed much more innocents and did several evil things by their own ideas despite they showed loyalty and also have done more good things. But I think Claude was also trying to be loyal to some people who betrayed him such as Catalina and Salvatore or treated him poorly such as Kenji, and everything he did were pretty much following others. He only wants money and revenge unlike Tommy and CJ for examples not only want money and revenge but also power in the end.

i dont think niko bellic is a bad character He is a good character with bad luck and life situations. i did all of the side missions as well 3 times and all i realised was that he is a good person from inside that just wants to protects his family in anyway possible and wants self respect but the situations he faced made him loose intrest in humanity like he doesnt even care to help persons that had good life style i remember a side mission with a girl called marnie ( if i am not wrong ) where he tries to help her instead of leaving with drugs as he could have just reffered her to jacob that does this kinds of job as she was living bad life and niko was probably seeing himself in her. i remember a mission where he kills Vlad just because Roman callled him disloyal while he was drunk as vlad was hanging out with roman's girlfriend. also taking hard revenge because Kate was the only girl that respected her and practically just lived with niko for not much long though she didnt like the life style that niko was living meaning that she is a wife material .
