I think the RP2S should just change its position with the RP2+. I think the RP2S runs PS2 and GC really well if you consider its price. It was the best purchase I did in years!

The HAL effect joysticks are so good and that T618 chip upscales Dreamcast games very nicely. for a compact form factor its definitely a great device even at a $100 price.

The 405m has the same specs as the rp2s+ with better form factor and bigger screen... Should be in high position, not lower tier at all

I see the ARC-D as more of a Genesis/Megadrive throwback more than a Saturn one but yeah, if Anbernic does a refresh of that device with a more powerful chipset that can handle Saturn emulation it would be amazing.

I got it because it's perfect for fighting games, especially SF games with a 6 button layout. For 2D Saturn games it works fantastic, even if it can run them through retroarch

It just goes to show how subjective it all is. I have one of those, as well as a RG Nano which I also enjoyed. The Arc-D does it's job being a Mega Drive, whist the Nano feels like a cute mini Gameboy that I can carry around everywhere. That's all I really need from those devices.

These lists are personal and it’s interesting to hear others’ opinions. I have the RGB30 and the Trimui Smart Pro and I would agree with your placement. I’m waiting for my black Retroid Pocket 5 and if it meets my expectations, I would probably place that as the current Masterpiece. Fingers crossed!

Another way of looking at these, is in comparison to a mainstream handheld. So, think about a Flash Cart DS Lite, Modded PSP Brite, or a Hacked new3DS, or a Jailbroken PS Vita Slim, or an Unlocked NSwitch Lite. Then think about which retro handhelds have finally closed the gap, or surpassed the above devices.

In my opinion, the retro devices that finally surpassed their mainstream counterparts are: DS Lite = Anbernic Flip (RG35XX SP) PSP = Retroid Pocket 2+ new3DS = Retroid Pocket Flip PS Vita = Retroid Pocket 5 NSwitch Lite = AYN Odin2 ...does anyone have any input ?

The rg405m is nearly the perfect device for me, I'm just waiting for a 4:3 metal form factor like the 405M that is capable of PS2 and GameCube. It also needs to have stacked triggers like the Odin pro. Currently a 4:3 metal with stacked triggers and PS2 compatibility doesn't exist, so I'm holding out with an rg353v. Not loving the vertical format for 3D games though, the analog sticks are uncomfortable. I think staggered joysticks like the Odin Pro should be industry standard. I'd consider a Retroid Pocket if it had staggered joysticks...but I'd still rather a 4:3 screen.

My Anbernic RG35xx just stopped working one day after setting it down for a few minutes. Idk if it warmed up too much or it tried to waiting mode n died.

Wow lack of Powkiddys!!!? I have the RK2023 which is around the same as the RG353PS looks like the PSPGo ive the All Matte Black version and i think its up there with the RG353PS, The RG353PS edges it in the feeling of the buttons, it feels better in terms of materials BUT not saying the RK is bad quality just different! Also the RGB10Max 2!!! My first retro actually my first Retro was the JXD S7800B!!! RGB10Max 2 is awesome! Is perfect!!! Which the X55 and the Max3 is the sequel to!!! This chart show theres no love for Powkiddys... i know there are Powkiddy haters out there! But I guarantee the RGB10Max 2 is awesome along with the RK2023 and the X55 i will get the X55 a little later as I also have the Trimui Smart Pro on the way... Also have my eye on the GKD Bubble which I suspect will be similar too the RG353PS and RK2023.... It has the same size screen and i think the same chipset but different formfactor... its the GameGear nostalgia factor all of these devices get me with!!! Also lack of the cheap with tons of personality devices XDDDD I have the SF2000 and the M17!!!!... Both are my sort of tinker devices! The SF2000 gets tons of praise! its £10 the M17 doesnt come near the SF2000 My Powkiddy RGB10Max 2 is probably my best device as it out of the box doesnt need to be tinkered with... after that its the RG353PS and RK2023... and i have the Miyoo Mini Plus and the RG35XX Plus! im more a horizontal device guy! Out of the box RGB10Max 2 is perfect along with the RG353PS... i think these depend on the vendor you get it from... On my Miyoo Mini Plus and RG35XX Plus the cards that shipped with them had stuff all over the place! and repeat roms etc thats why the SF2000 gets love as well for such an affordable throwaway device, it gets the roms right and theres no complexity to it.... its not the perfect device but its a great entry level introduction to the scene!

Odin 2 is more powerful but what your probably not trying to run anything that wont play on the RP5. So i'd say RP5 cuz its cheaper. Thats basically where im at with it personally as well.

anbernic has too many devices. i think they need to cut their losses pricing the handhelds that aren't selling at a heavy discount and focus only on pushing their best sellers. i'd say the rp4 pro, rp flip, odin pro, odin 2, and rg35xx sp are masterpieces. if the rg cube contained more powerful hardware it would be a masterpiece. it's highly overpriced at $150 for what's offered. steam deck is almost good. way too bulky and heavy for the average user to hold longer than 15 minutes. forget trying to put in your pocket and go anywhere. it's just way too big drawing too much attention while in public.

All I need is something not too big, affordable and that can play PSP/DS and everything below easily including things like N64 or Saturn. I got a Retroid Pocket 4 Pro myself and I think it is at least good enough for that.

i would never place a vertical as my masterpiece, im deffo a horizontal landscape guy! hypothetically i dont yet have a masterpiece device yet.... it would be something like the X55, RG556 but better ergonomics and more powerful... i guess the RG556 is almost there but again just a me thing i dont like asymmetrical controls! X55 and RG556 both have asymmetrical controls

Unfort this video is pretty outdated with omissions from: Odin 2, Ayaneo Micro, RG 35XX SP, 40XX V/H, CUBE/XX, 406V/H, Retroid Mini/5. Those are HUGE handhelds in the space for this year, and leaving them out at the end of the year doesn't represent the space for old/new ppl in this hobby. Still, an interesting watch and respect your opinions but feels like a video made in 2023 instead of 2024.
