My top three books this year were "She who became the sun", "Wir kinder von bahnof zoo", and "The road back". I recommend every single one, although all three are a different genre haha

My favourite book of 2024: We Used To Live Here by Marcus Kliewer (it's horror which I know isn't your thing usually but it does prominently feature a sapphic relationship!) Least favourite: Middle of the Night by Riley Sager (a joke of a novel imo)

oh i love these end of year videos/ rankings!! bc you asked at the end: here are my favorite and least favorite books i read this year favorite books: no longer human by osamu dazai. kind of absurdist but in a way that i can really relate. it describes the feeling of impostor syndrome and also social anxiety in a time where obviously no one was talking about it/ knew about it. i want to read every book of this author now. didn’t completely love the book, but still one of the best i read this year. fateless by imre kertész. completely and utterly devastating. the story of a young teenage boy in the concentration camps during the third reich. the hungarian author himself also went through much of the same things the protagonist goes through, so it’s almost autobiographic. the way the protagonist tells about his experience in an almost detached/ matter of fact way is really interesting and makes the reader at times uncomfortable. for example he talks about naively wanting to be a „good“ prisoner, respected by the SS. only to realize that in the long term this isn’t possible as his body begins to fall apart and almost decay right before his eyes. it’s honest and brutally real in a way that little other books i’ve read about this part of history are. worst: brother of sleep by robert schneider (it’s a german book and i am german so i read it in my language, but it does have an english translation as well. also apparently there’s a movie adaptation) this book is also absurdist but it takes it to a whole new level. it’s basically about this child who has an incredible sense of hearing. sounds kind of cool right? wrong! a lot of scenes in this are so visceral and gross, i felt gross just reading it. honestly i don’t know why i didn’t dnf it. probably because the description on the back of the book made it seem like something else would be the plot of the book. but really that part only came up in like the last 7 pages of the book. it was a book so gross and weird that it was gripping me and made me feel a lot of things (granted they were all negative but at least i was feeling something) and that’s why i continued.

I read Those who Wait and Sunburn last year and also loved them! I need to try Our Wives Under the Sea, I've been conflicted about giving it a try or not because I didn't had a clue if I was going to enjoy it but I trust your taste LOL That Green Eyed Girl sounds amazing, I've never heard of it before. Thanks you for the video and the recs!

Congratulations on the sponsor! My favourite book of 2024 was The Lightning Bottles by Marissa Stapley. It’s by a Canadian author and in it she actually references another book by a Canadian author. It’s about a musical duo from the 1990’s. I couldn’t put it down.

Sunburn was my favourite book of 2024 as well! If you want more sapphic football/soccer books I'd recommend "The Senators Wife" series by Jen Lyon. I really enjoyed all three and they were on Kindle Unlimited (in Canada)!

my favourite book of the year has got to be icebreaker by a. l. graziadei (ironically a hockey romance but gay and discusses mental health in such depth i really resonated with it) and worst book was probably serendipity (which was an anthology), as i think there was some good stories in it but overall i didn't particularly enjoy that one

Super fun video! Also there’s something weird with the audio-like a sound of a quiet train whistle in the background, if that makes sense. Makes it a little hard to pay attention.

Happy New Year! My favourite book of last year was probably Music From Another World by Robin Talley. It's a historic and epistolary sapphic romance. The worst was Everyone in This Room Will Someday Be Dead by Emily Austin, but it was still good, just meh.

Has anyone else read Yellowface? I read it at the end of last year and I'm actually upset by how disappointed I was by it. I was rooting for nobody, I was bored, I just didn't like it! I've seen so many good reviews for it and I just don't get the hype at all. I couldn't even finish the book it made me so mad 😅

My favorite book of the year is "This Ravenous Fate," a sapphic vampire book set in the 1920s in Harlem/NYC ("A Blade So Dark" came in a close second). My least favorite was "The Love Hypothesis" by Ali Hazelwood. I just don't find Adam Driver attractive and her books rely on the idea that redwood sized Adam Driver is hot enough to distract from giant plot holes and mid writing. Also, I preferred "The Christmas Swap" to "Make You Mine This Christmas." Ironically it was the *THIRD* 'fake date a guy over the holidays and go stay w his family but then to wanna get w his sister' book - "Kiss Her Once For Me" - that I liked the best of the three. 😂 but maybe that is recency bias. 😂
