Themes vs Archetypes has strange technicalities in early YGO. But I do believe Gradius, Gradius' Option, and Cyclone Laser meet your criteria. And later on they've become a part of the strange "Light machines with 1200 attack" line of monsters. If YT allows me Ill include a list of the cards now in the responses via DB Link!

funny thing about Dark Mimic, these set of level monsters are more playable than Horus in this format. Archfiends luckily have a lot good monsters that are part of the archetype despite nobody knowing it thanks to Konami's translation team. I am speaking of cards like Archfiend Soldier or Summoned Skull who can allow you to use their archetyple Snatch Steal and revival trap. My favorite archetype is XYZ Dragon Cannon in this format. But I use Magnet Warriors mainly because of Gaia Power Earth Normal Monster spamming being fun.

If I was making a Vivian Wong-based archetype (I'd call it Kung Fu/Dragon Lady), for the hell of it I'd retrain the Master Monk cards into the archetype. Mostly because I think they'd fit into the theme, especially Chu-Ske.

I never actually stopped to read Amazoness Chain Master or Dramatic Rescue, but now I'm doing it thanks to you! And wondering if I can make an Amazoness/Mikanko deck work!

Amazoness Chain Master was my absolute favorite card back in the day.

Good video man for the archetypes in goat format.

I agree that archetypes were necessary for the game. I remember being a kid in the early days of Yu-Gi-Oh with about 300 mostly normal monsters and a few random spells and traps to make a deck out of. It was really difficult to make anything special or that had any ability to combo into a good board. Archetypes especially through structure decks gave average players the chance to pull off cool combos without spending hundreds of hours testing decks or buying expensive cards the pros were using. It's something that really helped get a lot of people to stick around the game for so long. In some aspects it would have been cool to continue just putting stuff together in new and interesting ways, and for hardcore deck builders I can see how that would be more fun. The casual market for the game wouldn't have enjoyed it nearly as much and would have probably died off pretty quickly.

second video i’m mentioning this , but please make a video about war rocks and their support , glad to be here early
@derekwst3-YGO5 ай бұрын
War rocks are fun but for this era it would be over powered. I used a part war rock part red eyes deck to try to balance the deck and in my tournament he was in and out of 64 characters he was in the top 8.

For competitive my favorite archetype is Fire King and it will remain for as long as it remains top tier. As for casual play, It has to be Relinquished. Relinquished was the very first card I got when I got into Yu-Gi-Oh so many years ago, I hope Relinquished can become competitive someday

I always appreciate any ranking video that uses their own unique ranking board, so kudos for that. That said, I'm confused why you bothered with the E-Tier if you weren't going to use it. Anyso, I've never played GOAT format and I don't really know much about it so I can't rank them, but your list makes sense based on the little I do know. I just know that I prefer playing with Elemental Heroes, I don't think this format has enough fusions available to make it as fun as I'd like, but I'd probably have the most fun with them still.

I honestly wish Master Monk was a better strategy, it’s probably my most desired deck to get modern support

I know it’s not a archetype by any definition but clown control is my favorite. Crass Clown, Dream Clown and Ryu-Kishin clown are the primary playmakers but I use to throw in Peten the Dark Clown and even bickuribox to make the deck feel more thematical. There is an unusual amount of clowns in general in yugioh

Neat idea for a video, but I think when trying to make videos on retro formats, you should maybe spend a bit more time on researching the card pool. There are a few odd statements in this video, but just for an example, I think you massively glossed over and missed the point with Archfiends. Firstly: their effect is not an Omni negate as stated here, but it is still worth noting because of the high number of targeting effects in the format. How are you gonna skip over Terrorking completely? A 2k normal summon with Ha Des effect is quite powerful even with the summoning restriction. Not to mention, it’s the thing that makes Pandemonium worth playing since you can easily search Des Rook and use it to protect Terrorking. Archfiend Soldier is also just a solid 1900 dark beater that fits with the decks aggro playstyle. But most importantly: Falling Down exists. Literally just an archetype exclusive Snatch Steal. Sure, you can argue that it might not be a main deck card, but at the very least it’s an exceptionally powerful side deck card that only this archetype has access to.

DD Borderline and Soul Release can't combo since Soul Release itself will go to the graveyard.

Noooooooo absolutely not. The game has not always been a mess, that’s cope for the state of the game now. Has it always had problems? Sure, what game hasn’t. Always been a mess? Absolutely not, there was a definitive golden age. It may vary in length/breadth in your opinion, but it certainly isn’t anywhere near the modern day.
@sky_shu5 ай бұрын
Then *Where* Would we call Year one OCG format the gold age? Would we call Yugi kaiba format the gold age? Chaos format? The issue is since year one of this game there was something going on that was overly opressive in 1 form or another
@XadowXen5 ай бұрын
True, but at least it was just one strategy, now it’s like every new archetype. Also, the golden age is subjective to whenever you had the most fun with the game, but I think a very small minority would claim that the current state of the game is the golden age, and a smaller minority would actually believe it.
@sky_shu5 ай бұрын
@@XadowXen @XadowXen we can say the same about nearly every single popular format to ever exist since this games release. Plus you just contradicted yourself "there was a definitive golden age" and now you just said the golden age is subjective. 2nd. The "one strategy" argument doesnt work for every issue this game has had. Goats problem is the fact that every deck has sacky blowout cards that flip the match on its head.(Graceful charity, Pot of greed, deliquient duo, heavy storm, etc etc) but their are about 5 decks that are played in modern and historic had maybe 3. I can make this argument about nearly every format And finally, your not wrong. But at the same time. This has happened time and time again. This happened in Chaos format, DaD return format, plant synchro, Zoo, Gumblar, gouki, it happened at the height of tear. And thats just on the top of my head. This game has been a mess in one form or another since about 03 in the US. With things like Mech chaser. And frankly, thats why we like it. We enjoy yhe chaos and blatently unfair shenneniaganry we can do. This game woulsnt have survived as long as it has if players clearly didnt like *something*
