Idk if you already started reading in french but if you already read Harry Potter in English you could try reading the French version, the French translation is very clever and if you already know the story i assume it would be easier, even if it's in another language.

I’ve read a lot of the Russian classics (War & Peace, Brothers Karamazov, Crime & Punishment, & Anna Karenina) and I’d recommend starting with Anna Karenina. I know you don’t like Romance (I’m exactly the same as you-I don’t really read romance as a genre, and it’s often my least favorite part of a story, but when done right I can enjoy it.) Anna Karenina is by no means your traditional romance tho. It’s a Russian romance...which of course consists of throwing in a nice dash of cold hard reality into it cuz, well, they’re Russians. It’s a common denominator in all of these classics, but I think Karenina is the easiest to get into & read. (Other than Ivan Ilyich & Notes from the Underground because they are so short.) Don’t be intimidated by it just cuz it’s thick and Russian (🤔😋) I think it will be much easier for you than you expect it to be!
