The transition from ‘I’m having fun reading the selection’ to ‘this book is so fucking stupid’ is so fcking funny lol i had the same reaction after reading the entire 7-8?? Books from the mortal instruments series despite enjoying them

I've read the first 3 books in the Red Queen series and while it started strong, the middle books in the series are soooo long and just building up to the finale, so a lot happens, but there's no character development. Mere becomes insufferable too, which meant I always dreaded her POV (I believe that have multiple POVs as the books add more characters).

My favorite thing about The Selection is picturing Evan Roderick as Maxon😮💨 My main issue with it is that the whole series could’ve been wrapped in one book with how little in-depth they went with the plot, it had potential and I wanted a little more Hunger Games action, planning and revolution, motivations… everything that happens just kinda feels like it was not previously planned.
@dearjoanna35782 жыл бұрын
I also read The Selection as an adult way after the hype and it was breezy to get through and I continued on to book 2 but couldn’t get myself to start the 3rd. I’d definitely watch the show if it ever comes to be!

I feel like the first selection book is slower compared to the next 2. I like the first 3, just as an escape and a good time. I mean they aren’t my favorite but I enjoyed them. I like that the first 3 books are one story and you need to read all 3 to see how it actually ends.

Best wishes getting through your physical TBR and getting back to that picking up books just for the /excitement/anticipation of reading them again! My reading goal for myself is pretty similar, honestly; I really just wanna read my entire physical TBR before I die[ hopefully old and grey]. ((And maybe, if I'm really really lucky, actually read some more/other/ books I'd like to read, even after that, too.)) 🤣🤣 ^-^

I went through the same thing a few years ago with my book buying habits. I kept a log one year just to see how much I spent on books and the number was fairly high - then I tallied up how many I'd actually read that year and it was like 1 or 2. I made the decision then to start being more conscientious about my book purchases bc I actively use my local library and I felt like I was never reading the books I bought. As of right now, I buy maybe 3 books a year from authors I really like. Other than that, I'm getting everything from the library. It feels so good to know I'm not wasting $ or crowding my shelves with books just for the sake of collecting. I also feel no stress to pick up and put down a book bc I just have to return it to the library and move on - it's not sitting there, staring at me from my shelves all day. 😋 highly recommend doing an audit of book purchases if anyone is looking to curb the book buying addiction!

I rarely pick up YA anymore coz I know it’s not really written for me as an adult and I rarely enjoy it. But I read Red Queen last January and it kind of jump started me getting back into reading as an adult. So I value it more than I think I would ~80 books later. But then I read the 2nd book and immediately DNFed the rest of the series 😂 I DNFed The Selection so kudos to you for sticking it out! I think the concept is much better suited for a tv show so I’m excited for that.

The first book of the Selection series is really slow compare to the next 2 books so I get why you gave it such a low rating since of the conflict and character development happens in the follow up books. That being said, I think the concept of the story is something a lot of us can get behind. I mean, this is basically The Bachelor but set in a dystopian society. It’s not the best book I’ve read by far, but it’s a guilty pleasure. And I’m so hyped for the movie/show if they do end up going through with it.

Don't feel bad for giving multiple books 3-stars, all in a row, for completely different reasons; I think that's a totally valid thing to do!! ^-^ (I mean, sometimes a book is 3-stars because you enjoyed it, sometimes it's 3-stars because you didn't enjoy it more than you did, and sometimes it's 3-stars because you felt like it earned/warranted that rating in some sense or another regardless of how you personally felt about it.🤷♀️🤷♀️ What can you do!) And if that's just how the chips fell, rather than a more wild highs & lows ride, well then that's how the chips fell-We're here for your honest opinions anyhow. ^-^ 💜

With Red Queen, be prepared to hate the second book. Victoria Aveyard herself said that it shows that this was the first one she wrote on a deadline. It's still good but if Red Queen already was a 3 star read for you, the next one won't be better. Book 3 is great though
