I want Haley to do a video on reading classics like Anne of Green Gables, The Secret Garden, Little Women, Little House on the Prarie etc. I grew up with these books and im re reading them as an adult and it gives me a different perspective on life. I really think she would enjoy them.

You should read Iron Flame!! I had the same thoughts as you on Fourth Wing, thought it was soooo overhyped and lacked so many things, but I was surprised to really like Iron Flame 🤭 The 2 books feel different, Iron Flame is less about action and more about the plot, has a lot more politics, foreshadowing, character development, and feels more like a fantasy book and less like a romantasy one. Also the dialogues weren't as cringey!
@CHiCguitar11 ай бұрын
Everyone keeps saying this. I need to read Fourth Wing so I can get to Iron Flame because political intrigue is MY FAVORITE. I'm reading the Arc of a Scythe trilogy rn and while it's dystopian/utopian (complicated!!!) it's all about politics. So my jam
@booksedges11 ай бұрын
@@CHiCguitar I feel like Fourth Wing was written as a ‘booktok’ book, with all the elements RY knew were going to work for the majority of readers (but for high fantasy readers it was disappointing), while Iron Flame is probably where she started really developing the world and the ideas she had in mind. I’m not saying it’s the best fantasy book, but compared to how lacking Fourth Wing was imo, I almost thought Iron Flame was great 😂 But you need to get through Fourth Wing (it’s a fun ride, just not a great one)

Its a romance set in 19th-century London, kinda enemies to lovers but also suupperrrr comedic. Theres an action/adventure subplot that I think makes the book even better. I had a few surprising reads this year. Pleasant surprises: Together We Burn- Isabel Ibañez (I heard “a book about dragon fighting” and had pretty low expectations since that’s just not really something I thought I was into, but I ended up actually really enjoying this book and still find myself thinking about it months later.) Carrie Soto Is Back- Taylor Jenkins Reid (I’ve never watched tennis, never played tennis other than Wii Sports and a GameCube Mario Tennis game, can name a total of *maybe* 3 pro tennis players (and 2 of them are Venus and Serena ), just didn’t think I cared about tennis at all, but I LOVED this book. Lowkey made me wanna start watching tennis.) Not so pleasant surprise: Today Will Be Different- Maria Semple (there’s nothing *wrong* with this book, but since Where’d You Go, Bernadette? is one of my all time favorite books, I had super high expectations for this one since it’s from the same author and it just kinda fell flat for me. That probably has more to do with my own expectations than the book itself, though, I was just surprised and disappointed that I didn’t enjoy it as much as I expected.) Was overall a really good reading year for me (quantity and quality, my goal was 60 and I’ve read 108 (and may be able to finish at least a couple more before the new year)) going back through my GoodReads to answer this question really made me realize how many I thoroughly enjoyed this year 🙂 And also added a few of these to my TBR for next year
