i think the charm of this trilogy is that it's so very blatantly early fanfiction. like, the way everything goes on endlessly, the way the characters are written, the drama of it all- it sparks a very nostalgic note in me, even if i don't think i'd ever call them good literature. like, it's probably for the best, but people just do not write shit like this anymore. and sometimes i miss that, so listening to this video (and the earlier parts) is such a fun nostalgia trip. looking forward to the inevitably coverage of book 3 ;P

13:35 bruh this plot was way more fun when it was just Draco who was a descendant of a hogwarts founder. I feel like that has some narrative value since he comes from a family so heavily focused on bloodlines, but now *everyone* gets to be the spiritual successor of a founder and it’s just ugh. Like, book 1 was using tropes as a way to force harry and draco to become closer, which I am all for in fanfic. But the plot of this feels like it should have stayed as a bulleted list of headcanons Clare posted to the forums or her livejournal or wherever. It’s cute in concept, but actually writing it out into one massive story makes it so so tired and trite. That said, I am excited to watch this video and see how this fic devolves, so heck yeah part two! happy thursday to me! Edit: ah you broke down the problem with the heir thing so well! I wasn’t even thinking about it further than finding it really annoying, but you’re right! It does contradict the basic themes of harry potter and makes the whole thing worse. How frustrating :)

yay! new storytime! Also it's funny you mention your hatred of Snape. The thing I think is the strangest about Joanne's treatment of Snape is that he was based a lot on a real guy. The guys name is John Nettleship. There is a website about him and everything. This guy was close friends with Joanne's mom, if I remember correctly he even helped her mom get accommodations at work (?) because she was disabled. You might already know all this. But I think it's kind of insulting that Snape was based on this very real man that many people actually liked, although he was not a perfect person. I guess Nettleship came to terms with it and embraced it in time. I recommend everyone read about him, it's super interesting. Also yes, Snape is terrible, but I am not surprised Snape Wives were a thing. most of all Snape is childish and petty. I am only halfway done with video, I'll probably comment again when I through, so far its been a lot of fun though!

Hi, Latinist here again, I looked up the source for the Latin Salazar read, wondering if it was another ancient quote, and, uh nope. It's another quote stolen from Buffy. It translates to "I invoke the power of our father in the darkness". i hope you know that i LOVE these fanfic recaps. it rlly shows that you put a lot of thought and effort into analyzing all the little details (no matter how ridiculous they get) and taking into consideration literary aspects like plot points, characterization, inconsistencies, pacing, canon, etc. which ik must take SO much time It’s just such a fresh approach and makes your summarizations though all the fic’s ridiculousness that much more fun, especially in a space like yt where most ppl who make fanfic reads or recap videos (having no previous interest in fanfiction) will kind of just go “ugh fanfiction is so WEIRD and BAD guys what did we expect” for about 15 mins. which like, yeah, fanfiction CAN be weird and bad, but it can also be really good, and i think that treating it as a freakshow piece to gawk at inherently because it’s fanfiction is kind of boring. “i am going to summarize this fanfiction by saying that it’s weird that people ship harry and draco that’s such freak behavior” ok i guess. “i am going to critique this fanfiction because after much analysis i think that giving harry and draco homoerotic moments while also making them technically cousins is definitely a fucking choice but at this point there’s so much wrong with every relationship that them kissing each other might just be a step up” is fucking hilarious & peak media literacy. high brow artistic analysis. u are a connoisseur of the arts in my eyes

awesome video. i think you're really great at recapping and you have a good voice for narration too. i'm sorry for everything you have to go through to make these videos though 😂💔 as someone who reads and writes a lot of fanfic, it totally makes sense to me that these were so popular. fanfic writers often shy away from sweeping plots set in canon (not only do you have to very carefully manage your knowledge of canon, you also have to make some attempt at keeping characterization on point). they also tend to avoid anything with heavy action or intricate plots with lots of rules (the dragon/army fight, all the past historical stuff and magical objects etc) simply because they're hard to write, so few even attempt them. i imagine this fic's plot must have been VERY exciting at the time even with the bloated page count.

Having read Cassandra Clare’s books but not the fanfics, it’s crazy to see some of the pitfalls within her fanfics repeat in her books. I just recently read one of her trilogies where the last book was such a frustrating read. Every time there was about to be conflict it would cut to a side character talking to their love interest or something. The main characters got less development in their relationship than the side characters because she did so many abrupt scene cuts so she could draw out the tension between the main two. She’s great at making characters the reader gets attached to but makes their drama so repetitive that it makes you almost wanna give up on them. Very funny video!

Ok, I’m gonna start off with comments about the video specifically: 1. My cat was bapping at the stick(?) that you were holding in the 3rd and 2nd final chapters. He almost paused the video many times. 2. An amazing video series to watch/listen while knitting. 3. Love the shirt that you were wearing in the last section 4. IDK who that is, but I loved the headshot you use for Charlie Weasley. He’s cute 5. I was so excited (!!!) that you brought up War and Peace cuz I’m also reading that as part of a substack (War and peace (& emails)). I haven’t finished it yet (at book 4 part 2), so no spoilers!!! But would love to see someone do a deep dive into the story in the future. I would have so much admiration with anyone who would undertake that challenge. Ok, now moving onto the fic itself: 1. Since it is a fic, I tend to give a little more grace about unnecessary/unplanned plot points. It’s a very common feature of writing an on-going story. But understandable if one were to dislike it. 2. The thing about Ron being there simply to disapprove of Draco is so annoying. He deserves so much better than this type of narrative. 3. I really wished that Draco and Harry at least kissed. And I don’t even mean that as a shipper. There’s just so much actual development of their relationship, that it makes the most sense for them to just release that tension. They don’t even have to actually be together, just bang. 4. A sympathetic interpretation of Draco can be done in an interesting manner, but it’s so easy to fumble it. 5. That is one sexy fanart of Salazar. 6. I feel like the time travel is a lil too overkill. Like yeah sure, meet the Founders once to get advice or whatever. But a whole fucking army?! EDIT: 7.Your Snape sounds more like Marvin (from Hitchiker’s Guide) than Snape, but they’re both played by Alan Rickman. So, I guess it all comes around. 8. I hope you don’t take this personally, but I laugh everytime you say Fleur like Floor Anyways, if you ever do videos on the last book, I (and my cat) would very much look forward to it. I just hope you do it when it’s not too hot and you stay hydrated.

39:31 the bloodlines issue is actually something that comes up over and over again in fanfiction. Hermione will end up related to the Dagworth Granger potion selling family, or Harry will find out that petunia should’ve actually been classified as a squib, because the Evans are actually descendants from a squibb that was kicked out of a pure blood family, … there will be some sort of idea that magic is way more common than people think and no Muggleborn is actually “muggle” born it just means that the trait went recessive for a while… She’s not writing a vacuum when she decided to make Hermione related to Ravenclaw.

@@DavidMChannel ooh Woobles! I've never made an amigurumi, actually. I'm trying to freehand a dress for the summer and making the sleeves are SO hard. But I also don't wanna give up and just make a strappy dress because it'd feel like I lost lol. I hope you enjoy crocheting - even if you're not making anything, just practicing the stitches is still a good meditative activity 💕

I'm so, so glad that when I had the choice between reading the Draco series and the Sacrifices Arc, I went with Sacrifices. 1000% better written and way, way, way more explicitly gay. I can't recommend it enough. Just set some time because if you think that this series was long, wait until you see the world building in Sacrifices.

I just looked it up and- at least this is seven books long so its collective length seems a bit less insane. The Draco Trilogy is three books and is longer than, well, War and Peace

I'm not a native English speaker actually so I'm using a quiet new translation in my native language. The wittyness transfers over well though. Also if you're into musicals I can very much recomend listening to Natasha, Piere and The Great Comet of 1812 which recounts the part about Natasha and Anatole's affair. It's got some bangers.

You have serious commitment to doing this because this is a RECAP of a second book of a fan fiction TRILOGY and it's almost like 4 hours long. I myself sometimes wasn't sure if I was following along with so many subplots and stuff that just sort of happens but doesn't go anywhere. I really like your input and opinions on the plot points and characterizations. I never read the HP books (only watched the movies) nor was I ever a part of the fandom, so I wouldn't be able to tell otherwise what is lore-accurate and what she made up. If you feel like doing the last video I'll totally watch it. I wonder how she probably felt about Draco's lack of appearance in the last parts of the story, as he sort of took a sidestep for the more genuinely evil characters.

I loved Time Warp Trio! The TV show was on Discovery Kids. The whole network was sold so the show didn't continue. Man, one one else remembers that show.

I also remember the time-warp trio! I'm literally the only person in my friend group that remembers it! I don't think I watched all the episodes so idk if it ended on a cliff note but I do vividly remember the episode about Genghis Khan for some reason
