'would you like to destroy some evil today?' Nightblood, greatest sword ever imagined haha. Good to see you getting into this one man, it really is a cracking story - it does flatten out a bit through the middle but i dont think that will be a problem for ya, you tend to enjoy the intricacies like myself. Yeah Vivenna and Siri are top shelf female characters, Lightsong is hilarious and Vasher is well, Vasher. Watch out for drifter heads up :-)

Yeah been really enjoying it, hoping I get time to make a video in prep to come out tomorrow. All the main characters are class

warbreaker is weird. Everything tells me I should like mistborn more, but somehow warbreaker is my favorite cosmere book beside the stormlight archive.

you've got some really solid predictions here already, i'm excited to see what you think of the rest of the book. it'll definitely get crazy before the end, and i don't think you'll see most of the character destinations coming (at least i didn't, even though i was also reading the annotations iirc)

I very rarely get a character destination right at the start so I agree with you, and does Sanderson ever not get crazy before the end?

I have this one on audiobook, and the reader makes Lightsong sound like a California surfer dude. Not really the voice I envisioned when I read it.

There are two different audiobooks. You have the first edition, they redid it with Alyssa Bresnahan as the narrator, and that version is really good

I like that you read these books with an open mind. You clearly have your likes and dislikes, but you’re not overly judgmental. There’s another channel I watch (Nerdy Nightly), and they’re also first-time Cosmere (and recent new Wheel of Time) readers. I really like their insights, but they’re a lot more particular about the books. It’s frustrating when a new reader doesn’t love a book that the fans do-we all want to see KZbinrs who genuinely fall in love with works of art! I don’t think you’re faking your enjoyment, but I wanted to express my thanks for your positivity, even when you don’t love all aspects of each book you’re reviewing.

Thanks bro I appreciate that, yeah like you said will always bring up what I don’t like but no point lingering on it, lots to enjoy in nearly all the books

Yeah Nerdy gets fixated on negatives and will spend 30 minutes dwelling on a single negative. Wish he would sometimes just note things he doesn't like and briefly why and move on. He just ends up coming across as bombastic including with how he speaks to Claroos. I really struggle with it. I agree Conor handles it much better, not ignoring things that are not up his alley but focusing more on what he did like. It is just a much more positive experience.

@@jeffreyanderson1537 Don’t get me wrong. I think Nerdy Nightly is entertaining, and they do have legitimate gripes. It’s just a lot of it is harping on stylistic preferences and a rigid/absolutist approach rather than a nuanced one on an author’s intent. For example, I agree that how slavery, spanking, and genderism is portrayed in the Wheel of Time is problematic, but I am more willing to extend some grace toward an author and assume good intent and imperfect execution rather than the opposite. In my experience, Conor is similarly generous in his interpretations, which is refreshing!

@@mcina001 agreed. It just becomes a bit of a binary situation; they enjoyed the reading this week - great this will be fun, oh they didn't enjoy it - this is going to be painful. It is what stops me from becoming a paying member of their channel. Given your KZbin name I assume you are a WoT fan. I am a patreon supporter of The Wheel Weaves podcast. They always keep it fun and interesting even in the most boring chapters. Worth checking it out if you haven't already. All of the chapters are available for free (supporters get bonus episodes etc).

@@jeffreyanderson1537 Definitely a huge WoT fan. Started the books back in 1991 and have reread them numerous times. Love The Wheel Weaves. I’ve been listening to the audiobooks for the first time one chapter at a time and follow up my listen with The Wheel Weaves, The Wheel Reads, Wheel Takes, Cool Story, Blood and Ashes, Twotcast, and WoT Spoilers. Lol it takes forever, but I’m almost through book 8 after a few years. Also going to my second WoTCon this summer and enjoying the TV show. Also love most of Sanderson’s works. Appreciate the friendly tip!

I'm glad you are enjoying a different magic system. One thing worth examining in a secondary capacity (as someone who is planning on reading more cosmere and some who I think will enjoy cosmere connections) is that this magic system follows underlying rules and structures seen across the cosmere. Won't change anything about the book as a whole but gives you something to chew on.

It's cute that you think you fully understand the Scadrial (Mistborn) magic system. Someday you can read the next four books in Era 2, where things start getting a bit more complicated - but I wouldn't be in a rush - as some of those books are a bit weaker than others of Sanderson's. Fun fact: Before Sanderson published this book, he posted the drafts on-line. I would read those drafts out loud to my wife and it created some fun memories. Even though I found Lightsong to be overly silly as a character, when the book came out in hardcover, I did something unusual for me and bought the hard cover which was a lot of money for me at the time. I did this out of loyalty to the fact that Sanderson had freely given me so much, that I felt I owed him for it. Over time I've come to appreciate this book more, it's a fun ride for sure.

I do t have any hardcovers of his but they’ve all been out a long time so doubt I’ve even seen any, the larger paperbacks still have really nice artwork, the Mistborn trilogy I think had just been redone so those are very nice, the copy of warbreaker I think is just a regular mass market one

The soft cover you have looks like the original hard cover. The mist born ones are definitely different though I don't have all those hard covers.

Always love a mixed world of logic and then mystery tied in. Patrick Rothfuss did such and great job in his first two books with the very logical magic system but then the world of the Fae which defied all logic also, such a shame there isn’t a release date for the finale book. The first of that series was incredible and the second I would say is the best book I’ve ever read, have you read them?

@@conorreads I'm pretty sure Lightsong was speculating about that because none of the gods are allowed to know anything about their past lives. I think it was in the context of "I'm such a pathetic god, I probably died of a something ridiculous like a stomach ache."

Found the quote: "Five years ago he had died, even if he still didn’t know what had killed him. Had it really been a heroic death? Perhaps nobody was allowed to talk about his former life because they didn’t want anyone to know that Lightsong the Bold had actually died from a stomach cramp."
