The way he frets over the rock and the implications of moving it, he is truly a little Skybreaker, isn’t he? Also, the way he’s being asked to make the decision here reflects the skybreaker ideal of becoming the law itself

What did he mean about the title being symmetrical with Book 1?
@SpencerTwiddy6 ай бұрын
Around 2:00
@yf-n77106 ай бұрын
Book 1's name was The Way Of Kings, which abbreviates to TWOK. Sanderson was originally going to pick a name for book 5 which abbreviates to KOWT. In the same way, he made WOR (words of radiance) symmetrical with ROW (rhythm of war). It was going to make the whole series symmetrical: TWOK WOR O ROW KOWT. He decided against this eventually, because he thought Wind and Truth flowed better than Knights Of Wind (and) Truth, and Knights of wind and truth had the extra "and" messing things up anyway.

I feel like almost every character in every one of sanderson's books is morally grey
@yf-n77106 ай бұрын
I love Szeth. It's only Moash I despise. And not because he's morally grey; I love morally grey characters. I despise him specifically because [spoilers for Rhythm of War below] he told Kaladin, who he knew for a fact struggled with suicidal tendencies, to go kill himself. Having seen friends who struggle the way Kaladin does, I have a deep loathing for anyone who knowingly and intentionally sends someone into a depression spiral with the aim of getting them to commit suicide. The most evil possible way to kill someone is to manipulate them into a mental state where they do it themselves. And Moash did that. He tried very hard to do that. He would have *succeeded* in doing that if there hadn't been the divine intervention of the Stormfather. And the person he tried to do it to was supposed to be his friend. Only someone with no morals left whatsoever could possibly do what Moash did to Kaladin in Rhythm of War. That's not morally grey anymore. I couldn't care less about the rest of the stuff he's done. Murdering Elhokar? Yes, I was just starting to like the guy. Yes, it was sad. But I felt more disappointment towards Moash than hatred. More of a "come on, buddy, you could do so much better with yourself than revenge." Killing Jezerezeh? Again, disappointed. I still held out hope for him. But what he did to Kaladin? That was something I couldn't forgive. Because of his actions towards Kaladin, I would need a really powerful redemption arc before I even begin to forgive Moash. And because Moash serves as a narrative foil for Dalinar right now, I don't think he's getting that arc.
@yf-n77106 ай бұрын
@@TheAmyrlinSeat There are exceptions. In Elantris, they definitely aren't morally grey. Sarene and Raoden are too good for that. But in most of his books, yeah, I agree. Morally grey characters everywhere you look, though the degree to which they are morally grey still varies of course.
@TheAmyrlinSeat6 ай бұрын
@yf-n7710 Yeah, I guess I just don't get why the original comment says people don't like morally grey characters? Like Dalinar is a beloved character, and he's textbook morally grey, literally being a dictator. Also, I don't think people hate moash's actual character. It's the stuff he does that we hate him for, but his chapters are some of my favorites. Also, I've literally never met anyone who hates Seth, especially after WoR
@ninakrishnamurthy66746 ай бұрын
@@yf-n7710 I mean, Raoden allowed a group of people to join his community even after they killed a little girl, so I wouldn’t say he’s entirely without moral grayness.
