Doesn't downplaying or laughing at male trauma feed into the stereotype that trauma and vulnerability are not manly and further the agenda of toxic masculinity, while also reinforcing the idea that men are stronger than women? Idk if I'm making it too big a deal but whatever, that's what I think.

How they let go of that system of belief and how at odds they feel with “their new life” or how they become “deconstructed” idk I just like them how they simp over the female protagonist and that they have to work for their attention tbh

Here’s the thing: I’ve realized I’m too disgusting for romance. When I think I’m in the mood for romance, I’m really just in the mood for smut, and the smut in romance books doesn’t cut it for me. I’ll stick to reading the sexii chapters of fanfic when I want smut and reading something like Normal People when I wanna read about a realistic romantic relationship.

I loved it and didn't even know it was Reylo fanfic when I read it. The thing that really sold me was the whole academia and science field because I'm a science student and I remembered SO MUCH about what they talked about (did 2 years of med school and am now a PT student) also it's super funny and easy and I really liked it even if the characters weren't very well, relatable.

Personally I adored and devoured this book, but your review is really fair and I agree with a lot of it. I’m also so smoothbrained that I 100% didn’t realize that it was Reylo fanfic until I was like 3/4s of the way through, wherein I paused and went “wait a second…….” I’m glad you read it and at least had fun, even if you didn’t love it!

i read this as it was first published on ao3 (then under the name "head over feet") and i'm so happy that ali is having so much success with this book! there are a few other reylo writers that are getting published and it's so exciting because they've written these stories that are hundreds of thousands of words long and have taken YEARS to write (for instance, thea guanzon's "landscape with a blur of conquerors" is 362k words and took her three years to write and now it's getting published as a three-book series!!) also, ali hazelwood is releasing a series of romance books about women in stem! she's released two (?) others now as ebooks and has another one coming out in august!
