I love how openminded you are when reading new genres. It's been so cool to see you dive in to new things. If you can handle Misery though, I think you can handle a good amount of horror out there. Misery haunts me, but people scare me more than monsters or ghosts ever will. If you want to try scary Stephen King books that have a very human element, I recommend Dolores Claiborne, Carrie, and The Stand.

I've been reading Stephen King for 30 years and he is, without a doubt, my favorite author! It's so cool to see people discovering his work and immediately falling in love. He definitely has some weird stuff, but also true masterpieces. Btw, you should totally read the Mr Mercedes trilogy (also known as the Bill Hodges trilogy) - it's not a horror, but a psychological thriller, an intricate game of cats and mouse. Uncle Stevie at his finest!

Hi! I know this is a pretty late reply lol but I really want to get into his horror books (I have never read a King book before) Which one would you recommend as the best horror book from him? Where should I start?
@katyavinogradova7688
@katyavinogradova7688 4 ай бұрын
@nabeehamalik8762 Hi! I appreciate your interest in my recommendation! To me, the scariest Stephen King book is The Outsider, especially the first part, when it's just the horror of what people can do to each other. But it's a relatively recent book and it has the tie-in with the Mr Mercedes trilogy, so maybe it's best saved for later. I would start with Kujo - that was my first King book and it hooked me right away. I read it one sitting - it's not too long and once the action starts, it doesn't let go. Then I would definitely say It, although it is a long book, but it's amazing and has some truly horrifying moments. Finally, by his own admission, the scariest book to Stephen King himself is Pet Sematary, and I agree - I still remember how I read the last pages over 20 years ago and immediately after went to take out the trash... at night. Best to stay home after you finish that book, that's all I'm saying 😅 These would be my top recommendations 👏

Such an enjoyable video. I've been reading King for 30 years and it's lovely to watch someone discover him. If you're looking for King horror it's got to be Pet Sematary. However my specific recommendation is that you listen to the audiobook of Dolores Claiborne. It works better in audio format than on the page and you'll understand why if you listen. It's not a horror. It is a great book that gets constantly overshadowed by his horror greatest hits but it's a gem. I envy you having so many of his books yet undiscovered! Enjoy!

There are really some amazing stories out there that people miss because they either don't go to the theatre or read plays. Would love to see a video on that! You have much romance in many of his stories, so I know you will enjoy the rides. You made the perfect choices to begin your adventure. If you accept suggestions, give the following books a chance: Lisey's Story, The Talisman, and Mr. Mercedes. There is another non-fiction from 1981 called Danse Macabre about the history of horror fiction. By the way, you've got yourself a new fan. Happy reading!

I feel you with writing. I say go for it if you want to do it. I'm a writer working towards self publication of a novel series and I'm currently working on rewriting the first novel since certain things needed to be added to the story to enhance it. It takes a while to write and edit your first novel, but it is so worth it. You learn a lot about yourself and the craft of writing through the process of writing, rewriting, and editing your first novel.

Began The Stand three days ago. My first Stephen King novel. Little did I know, it is his longest novel. 1153 pages, approximately 500,000 words. It's a chonky little fella with small print. Understably, it looks intimidating, but with his writing style, word choice, and fantastic story telling, I am able to read through this at my top reading speed without sacrificing any comprehension. To read fast without losing comprehension of the story speaks volumes to an author's writing. This was his 4th book and I'm excited to read another. Definitely going to buy Billy Summers, Fairy Tale, The Shining, and The Outsider. I also have his memoir. The man can write.

Stephen King is by far the best author out there. From the moment you pick up his books, you are hooked from the beginning and not many authors can achieve that. His books are the type that when you have to put it down, you cant wait to get back to it and think about it most of the day until you can. I really liked Rose Madder. Quite disturbing though but i read that one real quick. Im currently reading Fairy Tale and again, hooked!

I had the same Stephen King experience. I've been a reader since I was a kid, but never ventured into Horror. I read Misery last year and LOVED it. I've since read about 13 Stephen Kings since then and still obsessed!

I look forward to your debut novel. You're inspiring millions including myself so as one creative to another, never give up. You claimed your role as an author when you first picked up a pen so it's only a matter of time before you shed that light into the world. You live your truth and craft those stories as you experience life so who knows you could be one dream away from falling in love with a dream that you chase for the rest of your life. God bless!

Huge fan of Stephen King, the first one I ever read was Firestarter and I fell in love with his writing style. Some of my favorites are The Institute, Insomnia, Joyland, and Bag of Bones. Also the Bill Hodges trilogy is really good! I honestly love them all in their own way.

This was great to see. Some people think he’s overrated but he really is a master storyteller. You chose two of my favourite King books too…nicely put together video. I’m impressed with how much you read in one week.

First time viewer of your channel, long time Stephen King fan. It was so awesome to see your road of discovery! And I'm jealous that you got to experience my favourite King book (11/22/63) so early on in your journey. I'm already curious what you think of gems like The Green Mile, Mr. Mercedes, or (slight shiver) the Dark Tower books... Thanks for this video, it made me want to read another King book as my next novel.

Misery was my first Stephen King novel and it got me addicted! His thrillers are by far my fave, because I'm not the biggest horror fan. So seeing you read that got me so excited and to hear that you liked it - YAY! ❤

I've had a very similar experience with him in the past couple years. My girlfriend got me On Writing because I liked the movies based on his books and I love writing. Then I read some of his newer books (The Institute & Billy Summers) and became obsessed and now I'm reading his older ones. Currently on Insomnia! I also started binging a bunch of interviews with him. It's cool to see others are recently getting into him as well!

I love short Stephen King novels. Misery is my favourite! Pet Semetary is the scariest one but is like psychological as opposed to gorey horror

As a long time fan of Stephen King it always makes me so happy to see others discovering his genius for the first time, and it's even more special when it's non-horror fans that discover they love his stuff. He certainly has a lot of disturbing horror novels, but there are a good many of his horror that isn't too scary. And he does have a good amount of non-horror as you have seen. I would love to see a video where you try out his really scary books and talk about them, XD I highly recommend The Long Walk, it was written under his pen name Richard Bachman early in his career and it's not horror, it's like sci-fi dystopian about in the near future a gameshow where kids from 18 to early 20's can participate in a walking marathon, they have to stay above a certain speed and can't stop for any reason, and if they do, bad things happen. I say it's non-horror, which is true, but it is also disturbing and realistic. It's probably a good test to see if you could handle some of his more scary horror as it kind of hits in between. It's more grotesque than Misery for sure.

You go, girl! Welcome to the Stephen King Fan Club! IMO, the earlier King books might even be better than the later books, or at least some of them. The Stand is highly regarded and might be his best. Some of his scariest (and best) books are Salem's Lot, The Shining, and Pet Sematary. For other non-scary stories I'd recommend The Green Mile and Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, which is actually a novella. But by all means try one of the horror novels, just to see how masterfully he writes them. Good luck---and try reading them in the daytime.

Great video! Stephen King is my absolute favourite author, it is my objective to own and read all of his books. The first book of his that I read was 11/22/63 and is still one of my favourite books ever! I absolutely love it and I thoroughly enjoyed Billy Summers as well. Also, you should definitely read his Dark Tower series next, it's 8 books long, not horror, and I honestly could barely put them down as I was reading them. :)

So I found 11/22/63 in a random café with a “book swap” area ! I have been keeping my eye out for this one, Misery, Billy Summers, and On Writing since watching this video and becoming inspired to venture into Stephen King’s writing. So so so excited to read my first book by him ! Thank you, Haley ! ♥️

Hi Haley, I am a new subscriber to your channel and love your reviews and your openness to try new genres! I always stayed away from Stephen king because just like you - I didn’t want to be scared but I eventually broke down and read him. My first Stephen king book was 112263 and it was amazing!!!! His writing is absolutely beautiful and easy without being elementary. He was nothing of what I thought he was going to be as a writer! Anyways, I know that you like fantasy and that you like Stephen king so I wanted to suggest that you read king’s gunslinger series. It’s amazing!!!!!!! And there are seven glorious books in the series! Seriously, give it a go - I know you’ll love them!
