For the second time in my life, last year I managed to read over 100 books. I wanted to share the tips I have learnt on how I think everyone can start reading more.
📚
A lot of people assume I must have been reading 24/7 to get to 100 books but I think if you can follow some of these tips, you'll be surprised how much you can read.
If you like this video, let me know and subscribe if you want to support a NewTuber. Thanks everyone! 😊

I loved the twist at the end. It is about what you want to read and not the number indeed. I've read just over 100 books last year. And that really happened spontaneously. Key for me though is to always have a variety of books that I'm reading simultaneously. 1. Something physical/ereader that I really need attention to read 2. Something physical/ereader that I can binge away easily, even if I"m tired 3. Some manga, short stories collection or poetry 4. An audiobook for during chores and driving As you notice I do not wholeheartedly agree with your physical copy statement. I love reading physical copies, but my e-reader is very comfortable as well and does not distract me or slow me down as far as I can tell. So I think it really depends on how it affects you personally. Then again, the same goes for all tips. Some people really like reading one book at a time as well.

Congrats on the 100 books. Yes it's definitely personal preference, I also have a kindle that I really like but physical books that I can write on and highlight always my preferred choice if possible.

3-5 books at the same time are optimal for me. if I start reading more at the same time, I get overwhelmed and stressed. it's important to find your own balance.

I discovered your Tiktok when I moved from Canada to Orkney back in 2021. Thanks to you I recognised far more birds while living there than I otherwise would have. Now I'm back in Canada, but I'm still following your channels - love your philosophy on reading!

Use your local library as well as an independent bookshop or charity shop. You don't have to be the first person to have read the said book. Look for those little community bookshops, you know, the ones in old telephone boxes. Found some fantastic books in these.

Definitely. I found some great books from community book swaps last year, love finding something that you might not have necessarily brought from a shop but give it a go and end up loving it!

Excellent tips, George! The only time I managed 100 books was in the pandemic year and I doubt I'll ever manage that again. The only tip I don't follow is the physical books tip because I simply do not have the space for all the books and I really enjoy reading in my Kobo actually. But everything else was spot on, read multiple books, read what you want, yes! That Stephen King book is excellent.

Thank you. I did 100 in 2020 too but i was recovering from knee surgery, furloughed twice and lockdowns, so this was my attempt to see if I could do it without any of that. I think the physical book tip is best for beginners who dont read much at all or if you want to highlight and write notes probs best to buy it but theres definitely a place for the e-readers too. Thanks for watching and commenting 😊

Hey, George! You're the only earnest guy I've seen talk about it this way, thank you! I think it's funny how some of these things become obvious once we've moved past the "to be read" pile, and how much people underplay the damage having a phone around can do. I've done a couple of these in brazillian portuguese as well, and over here most of the discourse gravitates around "Oh, look at me, me reads big books big time. Me smarter than you." Only thing I'd disagree on a somewhat philosophical basis is in regards to the physical books point. I (stoically) believe it's better to get by with the third best option every day than with the best one once a week haha Great video! P.S.: Oh, I've noticed you birdwatch. You should check "The peregrine", if you haven't already. Great book!

Hey thank you for such a nice comment. Really appreciate it thank you! I think I agree with you - I just know I can return easier to a physical book and see my notes etc. So if I had to pick a format, it would be the physical book. Loved the peregrine, read it a few years ago wit my work book club!

I study literature in uni, and one of the things I had to unlearn first was reading before (and in) bed. seriously, when I had to read something for class I was always falling asleep 😅 So, no more reading before I go to sleep... instead I get up a bit earlier and read first thing in the morning (but still not in bed)

I never start a book without finishing it. I don't have time to be reading partials of books and then stop without finishing them. In this manner I've gotten much better at determining which books I'll like before I even start them.

If I keep up my current pace I'd hit 100 books this year, but I really hope I don't. I'm injured at the moment and I've been sitting on my behind a lot more than normal the last several months, and I've been gravitating toward short books so far this year. Great tips!

Sorry to hear you're injured. I read a book called 'The Obstacle is the way' by Ryan Holiday when I was injured and waiting for me knee surgery and I thought that was great if you are interested. I read my fair share of short books last year too. This year I am easing off on the reading and, like I said at the end of the video, its much nicer to just enjoy reading and not going for a big target! 📚

Since i love reading and search for it, it appears to me on youtube. BUt i completly disagree with turning a pleasurable and unique thing as reading like a competition. It makes no sense counting how much books we have read on a year, what makes sense is having pleasure with books or how much we learn from them
@georgecuckoo
@georgecuckoo 15 күн бұрын
Exactly my point at the end of the video Hugo when I say don't set yourself a big target. However, the point for me was the challenge, could I do it? and I did and ended up discovering loads of good books and learning along the way. Things can both be pleasurable and a personal challenge at the same time. People count all sorts of things, workouts, movies watched, calories, steps, bird species seen etc . As I said in the video, dont start off with a total number of books to read just fall in love with reading but at the same time, challenges are fun and I will continue to do them :)

I can tell you from personal experience that a paper book doesn't compare to a tablet or a large phone with an amoled screen. It has to be an Amoled/oled screen so that you can invert colors. So that the background of the book is really black and the text color is gray. The eyes get tired several times less than when reading a regular book.
@georgecuckoo
@georgecuckoo 3 ай бұрын
Interesting, not heard about the inverting colours. I'll look it up. I like to fold down corners, underline and annotate my books and for me that's best done with a physical book. But whatever works for you, reading is the most important part rather than the format you do it

I read 730 books last year (2 books a day every day for a year). I did it by watching KZbin videos summarizing the books while I had the books in my hand (to make it feel more official). If anyone has any questions just let me know, this year I'm going for 1,460 books!
