Mitzi Reads And Writes

2 жыл бұрын

This year I decided to take the 90 day Bible reading challenge to read the Bible in 90 days. In this video I share my thoughts on the process and what I learned from the experienced.
Have you ever read the Bible in 90 days? Let me know in the comments. Thanks for watching!

This is great, Mitzi, and AWESOME job!!! I just finished the Bible in 57 days, beating my previous record of 75 days. Next goal is 40 days then a week!! Keep at it!

Wow!!! 57?! That’s wild. I started on November 7th, 2023 with the New Testament, then start in Genesis. It’s Jan 1st, 2024 and I’m at 1 Kings. I feel like I’ve been cruising but wow 57 days haha no way! That’s amazing

@@rjpaquet Thank you! It's all the Holy Spirit's doing. I just started again today reading the Bible cover to cover. Hoping to beat the 57 days (not sure if I'll get 40). Just keep at it. It's all about spending more time reading than doing other things.

I'm so glad you shared your experiences Mitzi! I did this a year ago and really enjoyed the experience of it. I don't know if you saw my video, but I think we had some similar feelings about it. I also read the ESV. I have been using it for a little while now and like it very much. I'm such a slow reader, so it took me sometimes 3 hours to do my daily reading, but I'm so glad I did. It really helps you see the big picture and how it all fits together seamlessly.

Yes! And I did watch your video about it, too! I actually love your videos about your morning routine so if you ever want to revisit that I would love to see it. I found yours encouraging.

Good take. I have read the Bible in 90 days twice. Even though our church uses the ESV, I used the NIV that is specially designed for the program. That bible has no notes, maps or references. It also has a 12 page per day calendar. It is what must have happened on the frontier - people letting the bible speak to them. For me it was parts of the OT that no preacher ever mentioned that really made me understand some of the deep and hard truths.

Reading the entire Bible in 90 days is quite a fete. I think that beats Gone with the Wind as your Mammoth read! 😊 There was a time in my life when I was shattered into a million tiny pieces. That brokenness, though difficult was so necessary because it brought me to my knees. I spent 2+ years away from all that I knew. My one constant was Jesus. I prayed that God would give me an insatiable hunger for His word. He gave it to me in spades! The translation that I had with me at the time was the NLT. While not known for being a word for word literal translation like the ESV. It is very readable! I memorized as I poured over the scriptures. I use many translations in my studies now. But the word that has been hidden in my heart is the NLT. Thanks so much for sharing this!

God is faithful! Thanks for sharing Becky. I had a really dark time when all I could do was just read certain passages over and over. It took some time, but then like you, I had this awakening for more of His Truth- what a difference!

That’s quite the accomplishment! Since I’m still fairly new in my walk, although I’ve studied several Books on my own, or with my study group, I’ve never read the Bible in it’s entirety. Last year, I tried the read your Bible in a year plan, and failed miserably. While I’ve been using the ESV translation the last three years, I decided to read the Bible chronologically in the NLT version. I’m doing it with a reading partner so we can hold one another accountable, and have short conversations about what we’re learning. I also am listening to large portions on audio because it’s easier on my eyes. I prefer deep diving into a Book rather than this overview type of reading, but feel I can resume that type of study next year once I’ve actually read the entire Bible at least once. Thanks for sharing!

An accountability partner is a great idea! And I'm like you about deep diving into a Book at a time. That's when the learning and growing happens. Please keep me posted on how things are going. I love hearing about what God shows us through Scripture and I need more and more every day.

I read through the one time front to back with NIV but you are right different versions will be a different experience. And what I found was kinda what you said parts felt like I was doing it on plan without taking the time to understand the density. Well done and thanks for sharing.

Mitzi-I’ve been binging your channel (love it) and feel like we have similar reading tastes. I read the Bible through every year as well. This year I am reading through a version from a Messianic Jewish man-The Complete Jewish Bible. He first put out the NT, and later added the OT. They are basically the same as the KJV I’ve read all of my adult life- different order, names are all Jewish. I like his insights in the intro and, I like his explanations since the OT and NT are both Jewish books! I enjoyed Jane Austen July and am looking forward to other challenges.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Mitzi! I read a NIV version of the Bible. I am always fascinated in how The Message Bible translates it into very modern text and language. I thought it was interesting how you felt rushed; that’s testament to you usually digging deep. I wonder how you will feel when you do this a second time 😊📚

Wow that is AMAZING to read the entire Bible in 90 days. I need to do that myself. I will be honest I am looking forward to retiring in two years. I miss having time to really dig into the word. I do a devotional every morning when I get to work but that is still nothing like sitting unlimited and digging...I have several translations too. The KJV is too much for me I get lost or confused...my favorite is the Sprint filled translation or NLT...Great video Mitzi 😇

This is a great! Speaking of Bible versions - when people ask what Bible translation is the best, I tell them it's whatever version that helps you understand it and makes you want to come back and read more.

I read the Bible in 90 days 3 times last year. And it was great! I had the same thought…by reading the Bible quickly like that you get the whole big picture of what the Bible is and Who the Bible is about. This year I’m reading the vintage Reese chronological Bible so I’m going much slower! I like what you said about reading a different translation. I’m a diehard KJV reader! It is what I am familiar with. All the verses I have ever memorized over the years is with KJV. I am happy with it and see no need to switch. However, I’m not opposed to reading the ESV on my own. I am thinking I’ll go back to reading the Bible in 90 days again next year and try to read it 4 times! And add the ESV for one of those times. I couldn’t do that this past year because I got Covid and was too sick to do any reading at all. I watched a lot of old hallmark movies, though..haha!. But yes back to the 90 day plan next year. I like the challenge and the discipline and reading the Bible never gets boring since it is the Living Word. Your video is a year old so I’d be interested to know how you liked it?

This is great! I still have to read the ESV. I think that's the one I'll go with next year. I've only read the Bible in a year, but I would like to try 6 monthes. I would also like to listen to it at some point.

I think I'll try listening if I do this again. That would probably make it a little easier for me. I remember my dad would listen every morning to the Bible on cassette- yes, long time ago, but he loved it and it helped when he started having more trouble with his eyes, too.

Hi. I use the ESV and the NIV interchangeably for Bible study. And I add in the Amplified Bible sometimes. For everyday reading for inspiration and daily living I use the NLT. Also I will occasionally pick up The Message to see Eugene Peterson’s take on it. The Psalms are fun to read in The Message!

I've heard several people mention the NLT as a favorite lately, but I don't ever use that one. I think I'll see about picking up that translation as well. Thanks!

My 18th birthday gift was an NIV, and it's still the Bible I use regularly - over 30 years. This sounds really interesting, though. I tend to not be very disciplined, so who knows how that would go for me. Our diocese's sort of standard version is the ESV and we do have and use it a lot, (in fact our new seminary right here in my home province is called Packer College), so I think I would read that one first if I undertake something like this. The timing will have to be right. It's really helpful to get your thoughts.
