I read the book in fourth grade. I have to admit the imagery from it has never left me. I love the last part where they are carrying aqua and running towards the water to save her as she disintegrates. I also love the illustration of the dress with the shells on it on the wheelchair. The way this book was written was very magical to me, it felt like a dreamy meditation on growing up. And yes it was kind of dark! I think for a fourth grader this book has a somewhat mature quality even if it’s not that great for adults

I actually was in the mood to watch Aquamarine and found it a funny coincidence that this video got uploaded which motivated me to watch the movie more which I finally did today. :) With that said I actually was twelve the age demographic when the actual movie, Aquamarine, came out to theaters. Some time after I saw the movie in theaters I remember seeing on my book order form at school the actual book of Aquamarine that had the same cover as the movie. I ordered it and finally got around to reading it and couldn't believe how entirely short it was and was very disappointed by it. So I find it interesting that Cait here was saying about how she may not be into it because she's 22 but I was the age demographic for the movie and the book and I was deeply disappointed. Lol, ever since then I always found it as a highly rare moment where the movie is actually FAR BETTER than the actual book itself. I finally saw that as full out reality. Lol However I do have to point one thing out. It always stuck with me that all of the girls fell head over heels over Raymond yet it was Hailey and Claire whom didn't have a crush on him but only saw him as a friend and they felt like that they were one of the only ones whom didn't fall head over heels for him and just liked him for himself and not because of his looks and got to show him that they can accept him as a friend. So I find it interesting that Cait said that the other girls didn't mind him as much. I admit, I read the book once when I was twelve and then got rid of it at a garage sale in middle school so who knows Cait could be right but I'm just pointing out it's what I remember. Lol
