@@dougm3162 And it is even more interesting when the 90-day Bible connects to the slow Bible in ways that make this connection appear as a very clear message about whatever is happening in your life. Take that coming from an atheist like myself, who questions his own atheism every day.

I read my bible every day without fail, have done so for years. However, I prefer to study the scriptures, to mine those little nuggets of truth that escape our attention when we merely read. The hidden mysteries that are much deeper than what we glean from the surface. I encourage everyone who has the desire to seek salvation, to diligently study God's Word, asking the Holy Spirit to reveal God's character, His Holines, and His wonderful plan of salvation for you! It's only when we have a healthy view of our utter sinfulness, and His divine nature, that we can grow in our walk with Jesus! May the Lord bless you and keep you.

I read through the Bible in 3 months in my early 40s. It took me 2 hours a day but it was awesome. I was homeschooling but still made time. I'm now 63 and you are inspiring me to want to do it again. I think I will start with one book of the Bible in a week and maybe if I can read long enough each day mayby going for reading the whole Bible in 6 months. Either way this video is inspiring!

Another tip to help read the Bible is to get a reader's Bible. There are a lot of good reader's Bibles out there. Like the CSB Reader's Bible, the ESV Reader's Bible, the NIV Reader's Bible, etc. There are even multi-volume reader's Bibles that look stunning. A reader's Bible makes it aesthetically pleasing to read the Bible. It makes the Bible reading experience more like reading a novel by being single column, removing chapters and verses (or at least making chapters and verses minimal), etc. Watch Mark Ward's video about Bible typography and why it matters for far more information about all this and why reader's Bibles are such a help!

I actually did listen to the KJV Bible in 90 days. It was the first time to get through the whole Bible cover to cover. It is the best way to get through the epistles because you pick up on major theological themes over and over again (such as being saved/justified through faith alone).

A little fun fact that I'm sure you noticed while reading the Bible, is how many every day sayings we have in conversation comes from the Bible. Like "wolf in sheep's clothing," or "the blind leading the blind," or even "forbidden fruit." Here's a link to the top 50 most popular phrases... www.aggiecatholicblog.org/2013/09/top-50-most-popular-phrases-from-the-bible/

That is a fascinating thing! The KJV specifically has had a tremendous impact on the development of the English language.
@infantryricky68074 жыл бұрын
Me thinks thou art biased in proclaiming "the KJV specifically..." as thee favors a Protestant version Bible, being one thyself... A little KJV lingo there :-) Incidentally, all Protestant Bibles are missing 7 books that were removed, so you really can't say you read the entire Bible. Pick up a Catholic version & read those 7 books and THEN you can say you did it.
@IamGrimalkin4 жыл бұрын
@@infantryricky6807 You can read the Apocrypha in the KJV too if you want to. A lot of modern printings leave it out (or print it as a separate book), but the KJV originally included it: although not as scripture, but more as an appendix.
@infantryricky68074 жыл бұрын
@@IamGrimalkin You are Correct! However, the term “Apocrypha” is what the Protestants use to describe these 7 removed books, which means “not sanctioned,” as they see it. The proper term is “Deuterocanonical” as the Catholics use, which means “not being part of the Hebrew Bible.” (Old Testament/Tora) Protestants don’t like to admit it, but It’s thanks to the Catholics that we have what we now know as the New Testament from the Council of Hippo In 393 AD & confirmed by the Council of Carthage in 397 AD which decided on what collected sacred writings were inspired scripture. Combined with the Old Testament give us the Bible... I'm so glad that I belong to the original Christian Church!

I like this video because unlike a lot of introductions to whole-bible reading courses, it actually gives solid reasons why it is a good idea instead of just assuming it a priori. My main issues with whole-bible reading, though have been: -It has too much of an Old Testament focus. You spend about 4/5 of the time on the Old Testament for a year (or 90 days in this case) because the old testament has that much in terms of words. However, in terms of content, I think the New Testament, especially the gospels, is more important, even if you're re-reading passages you've already read. I think nevertheless that reading the New Testament still involves reading the Old Testament, because you should follow references to Old Testament quotations, but in that case you're still reading the New Testament, you're just using the Old Testament to assist you. -My second issue is that rigidly following a schedule can get in the way with studying the passages which god is pointing out to you at the time, or passages which are most relevant in your life, or passages relevant to ideas you've been thinking about a lot recently. Studying these passages is more likely to be useful to you at the time; but you are also more likely to remember it, apply it and connect it to your life in the future then whatever passage comes up on your schedule for the day. Although of course in your case reading the whole bible was part of that, because you needed to for your course. I've had a similar experience where I needed to read Exodus and a few bits of Numbers and Deuteronomy in a weekend so I would talk to a non-christian about it because they were connecting with the events spiritually; and I found the specific application helpful there too. So it works for long bits and short bits, and potentially the whole bible as well.

Which entire Bible canon? I'm guessing being a Moody Bible School you are talking about the 66 book canon, not the Canon that Pre-Lutheran Protestants and the RCC holds, or the additional books that the Orthodox hold, and pretty much sure about the books also included by the Ethiopian Church... Which begs the question, do you have a video on the Canon? How and why it differs? I'm interested because I was raised a Sephardic Jew, and the Canon we accepted contained all the books of the LXX, and not the shorter Canon of the Ashkenazi, nor the additional books of the Ethiopian Jews (later influencing the Ethiopian Christians).

Great question! For my usual Bible reading, I primarily use the ESV. This was a change I made in the last year or so. However, for this specific task of reading the Bible in 90 days, I used a variety of translations. This was in part because I really wasn’t a fan of the audio version of the ESV. I would say I used the NIV the most for this (which is the translation I grew up with) but I would mix it up sometimes just for variety. What translation do you use?

A good way to read through the genealogies is to skim through them and look for names you recognize. Also check out this book "All the Genealogies of the Bible: Visual Charts and Exegetical Commentary". That book goes over every genealogy in the Bible illustrating it with a chart and explaining it.
