If I were (for some reason) to do something like this, i would probably make Donkey a guy who wants to be friendly with everyone regardless of how they respond. In the first book when Donkey finds Fiona naked, it would be so much funnier if he tried to tell jokes to make the situation less awkward, only to make it more awkward. Shrek also would never make a romantic move so quickly. At least make it so the characters share one of the personality traits that they do in the movie. Also, Donkey should get with a dragon character at the end. It's so obvious and everyone makes that joke. I feel like it's only about Shrek because they knew it would give them attention. Either that, or this person genuinely has zero idea about the message of Shrek.

Fiona's parents were royalty. It would have been so easy for her marriage to be arranged by her and Lord Farquat's rich parents kinda like in Shrek 2. Then it makes sense for Lord Farquad to care about marrying Fiona for her parents money/ business arrangement. It also would make sense for her not to want the tape to be released so her parents wouldn't have their business and reputation ruined. Hell even gave her run away from the marriage which is why she is in the swamp. So many easy fixes.

first of all, i wanna comment on shrek's backstory in this. the parents dying has been done to death, and i feel like he wouldn't be a virgin or hasn't had a kiss. i figure in this world, he would've had some partners before. maybe his first few partners broke his heart severely, breaking up with him over his looks or they wound up cheating on him. other people finding him physically ugly helps make this worse and progressively, he grows bitter over time and aggressive towards people. he becomes the ogre everyone (and himself due to his low confidence) sees him as and eventually isolating himself to the point where he wants nothing to do with anyone like in the movie. the hostage situation could maybe have worked (but the horniness would need toned down) purely under the pretense that fiona would tell everyone about the fairy world...but as they get to know each other more, he realizes that it's terrible to keep her there. he lets her go home and is like "i'm so, so sorry. i shouldn't have kept you here. it was misguided and very selfish of me...just please don't tell anyone about this place. i don't like anybody here too much, but i want to protect them. the outside would be meaner than i am to them." so fiona goes to wherever she's staying in florida and realizes that she actually likes shrek's company and wants to know more about him. so she CHOOSES to go back, making shrek wonder "why would she ever want to know more about me? why does she even want to be around me? i'm just an ogre, and nobody likes an ogre." she proves him wrong, and they both build up a genuine relationship. i feel like this would really impact the eventual smut and make it more effective with its emotional charge. ofc it's only a hornybook, but it would be much more compelling
