I came across this video a few days back but time didn't permit me to respond earlier. This is going to be a super long critical analysis of your video, so bear with me and I would expect to receive a response for the same. The video is titled ''I read two books recommended by J Sai Deepak''. When one is trying to gather an accurate understanding of such a complex topic as history especially when it ain’t contemporary history, one needs to make sure he is well read in the numerable amount of books on the topic available to be objective, to confirm that a particular book has no bias and that the books can quote sources from primary sources. When J Sai Deepak recommends a book about such a complex historical topic as the Goa Inquisition by Anant Priolkar without asking his viewers to read others he is doing so because of his confirmation bias and you will understand through the course of this response why. In your video, you repeatedly state that Goan Christians were forcefully converted which Priolkar also mentions in his book which is far from the actual truth, and recent studies in academia confirm this too. While there was a section of Christians who were converted forcefully there were many others who converted because of the benefits, better social status, and new jobs that the Portuguese brought to the new colony, and in many instances, the caste clans converted entirely as a village once the village leaders (gaunkars) converted and also not to forget the heavy proselytizing of the Christian faith by the Portuguese missionaries. If conversions were only ''forceful'' how does one explain about the Goan Catholics who fled to Mangalore during the Portuguese Inquisition some as early as the 1560s itself but never ever renounced their new faith, how does one explain that after the end of the Goan Inquisition in Goa the Catholics never went back to their original faith or there was never a movement for the same? Priolkar's argument is a very simplistic view of the conversion of Christians. I would recommend you to read the book Conversion and Citizenry by Delio Mendonca wherein he studies the anthropology of the time and its primary sources to talk about this topic and I'm not aware of anyone who has been able to critically debunk his work from the sources. Even if one has to leave aside the studies in recent years I haven't been able to come across any scholarly work of someone been able to prove the claim of outright forceful conversions of the Goan Christians from primary sources. You state in your video that the majority of the Goans are Christians and have names like DSouza’s this is according to which statistics? Ever since the first census was published in the early 1900’s Hindus have always been the majority community so make sure you are factually correct. You later go on in more depth about Priolkar's book about the Inquisition itself and the tortures. One needs to first understand who the Inquisition was primarily for and its objective(s). The Inquisition was a tribunal to study the cases of HERESY by the Jews, Muslims, and newly converted Christians and there is no dispute among scholars in this regard through the records this is why even Catholic priests were charged with heresy. While anti-Hindu laws existed these were primarily for those who had already converted to Christianity and to prevent them from going back to their native religion hence the establishment of the Holy Tribunal. There is no evidence of Hindus who didn’t convert being put to death by burning under the inquisition through any of the archival records and Priolkar doesn’t even cite his source for the same, the only instances of the handful of Hindus who were tried in the tribunal were largely because they aided the new converts to follow their previous native culture and none were burnt at the stake. I explain about the archival records in the later part of my comment too. You also mention from his book about the tortures such as limbs being cut, rape, pulleys to stretch victims, and water torture which is also far from the truth there is a reason why Hindu nationalists use the book for their own agenda. Because if going by Charles Dellon’s account in his book he never mentions about the tortures except for the burnings in which those found guilty were only punished. In 2003 the archival records were studied from the Vatican archives of the time which is available to the public today and this denies all the allegations about the rape and limb cutting in his book. This is not to say that the burning of victims who were held guilty of heresy is also justified. Next, you go to the list of temples and deities in your video, while it's true that people did move to prevent themselves from being converted and they were primarily the upper caste Saraswat Brahmins, there were other Saraswat Brahmins who also did convert for various reasons some of which I have already mentioned above. In some cases, families would be split wherein one brother converted while the other didn’t and moved/ fled away with their deity. Also, it's not entirely true that every upper-caste Hindu who didn't convert also moved outside of the Portuguese territories back then. Properties owned by the Saraswats Brahmins who had converted and others were given for the construction of Christian religious structures, and many were confiscated from those who also fled which is a plausible fact. Next, you are wrong about the entire burning of the records and this is what Priolkar also mentions in his own book that he got some records from the Goa archives about the Inquisition. Any serious scholar on the topic knows that the archives about the Inquisition were never ever kept in Goa but rather in Portugal, Brazil, and the Vatican. While individual trials of every person tried in the tribunal were burnt their names, offenses, villages they came from, etc are still available and these were declassified and are available to the public and even online by the Portuguese and Brazilian libraries in the last 2 decades which Priolkar was never able to study them. After studying these archival records you will realize why I have earlier stated and it confirms that the Inquisition was primarily for those who had converted through their names and their villages. I suggest you read the book by Allan Machado’s book Goa Inquisition: Facts, Fiction, and Factoids who has studied these archival records and documented the findings in his book. Last you talk about the 2 protestant accounts who were convicted in the Inquisition. Charles Dellon himself mentions in his accounts that he never once saw a Hindu within the tribunal and he mentions in the very same book he was charged because of his own personal animosity against the government. I will not comment about the second book because I haven't read the book but will write a review once I'm able to at least read the synopsis of the book and maybe do so in the next few days/ weeks.

Downloaded the English translation of Charles Dellon's book. I recently became interested in historical studies - and I doubt I will get enough time to finish reading both books - the one by Charles Dellon and also the one by Pariolkar. Thanks for your detailed comment - I will come back here after a few months (hopefully :) )
