I just bought one of these little hoopties off Copart to flip (green '09 Chevy Cobalt base sedan) with 59k original miles. Got it for $1,450 but the fees in Detroit must be higher since the car cost me $2,075 total. Needed all the same front-end parts as this one (found mine in the same color for $100 even using Car-Part.com, both headlights for $41 off eBay), plus a $50 seatbelt tensioner, $60 interior detail, and $15 hubcap, but mine ran fine from the start. I'd shoot for $2,500 if I were you, I'll be listing mine this week for $3,900. Good flip!
@AutoAuctionRebuilds6 жыл бұрын
Heck yeah!! I got mine torn down for rebuild today, and washed the outside. New video coming in 2hrs or so. Found all my parts for $250 from LKQ. I'll hope to sell it for $2K but I'll list it for $2500. :) Thanks for watching and best of luck on yours!

Fyi, in the future. You can get a chain and then use the bolts for the hood latch, and then pull it out while tapping to straighten the metal back in shape. Use a heavier tie down strap or a come-a-long attached to another vehicle to pull with.

I owned an '06 Cobalt coupe 5 spd. manual and it really was an awesome, economical, reliable car. I recommend them. G5's are identical mechanically. The 4 cyl. Ecotech's are great motors. I loved it because it was the first car I did all maintenance myself! Spark plugs are cheap and super easy to change on this car. You just need a long extension bar to reach the plug, easy access on top of motor. Too bad the body was so messed up. Hopefully you can squeeze out a profit!! Seems like it idles and runs good. If you hear clunking from the suspension, it could be the sway bar links. Known problem with these if I remember correctly.
@AutoAuctionRebuilds6 жыл бұрын
Turns out G5s and Cobalts are the same car. I'll probably be pulling Cobalt hood, bumper, lights, etc to replace these as my LKQ doesn't have any white G5s. :)

I want to thank you for fixing up this car. It gives someone like me hope. I've had health issues that have affected my credit badly. I'll never qualify for a car loan. A car like this would get me where I need to go and would be affordable!!!

Cobalts & G5s are junk, i got stuck with one last year and ended up selling it to my neighbor for a derby car :( get it fixed and get rid of it as fast as you can lol. The rims bend easy and the poor designed sealed transmissions dont like being misstreated maintenance wise. Just made my 1st copart purchase today, saved me a bunch over getting cars the way I was. Thanks for sharing!

Uber Man I got a 07 civic with light front end damage. Mostly bumper cover, hood, headlight, and steering wheel air bag. Planning on painting the parts myself since I have finally perfected the painting process for the most part. Should be a fun project. Now if spring would finally set in I would be in good shape, they are calling for up to a foot of snow here Saturday 😔. Keep up the good work, if I can give you any paint advice let me know.

Well as you've said in prior videos "There will be times where I mess up" But i don't think it's that bad. You got it running better now. Good Points: they made a bunch of these cars. Cobalt / G5 Parts should be easy to find. It was a cheap purchase. The damage isn't that bad, If you can get the same color body parts that will help save money with paint. Clean it up put some hubcaps on it and you might be surprised what you get. it's not to bad stay positive and it will work out!

bummer :/ I used to do car flipping a year ago with some mechanic dude I met but he took advantage of me. I lost thousands. Long story short I got a 2007 G6. I love Pontiacs but I had to part with it. She had so many problems from the get-go. Bought it for way too much from the junk yard. The car ran and drove for a while before the trans finally took a dump. lol. I respect what you're doing though! It's a tough business and sometimes you barely break even let alone turn a profit. Keep up the good work! I love watching cars go from pieces of trash to being restored. It's an amazing thing

I think you might be looking at this one a bit pessimistically. Really not bad. Body looks absolutely solid, you figured out the idle problem, and the damage looks relatively simple to fix. Parts should be cheap, there are tons of these G5's around. I think this will make someone a decent daily driver.
@AutoAuctionRebuilds6 жыл бұрын
I'm probably replacing the front with Cobalt parts lol. Not many G5s around here. But I'm hoping it all works out. Parts are $253 pre-tax.

Do you have a U-pull it near you ? Shouldn't be that much for hood, bumper, head lights and grille. LKQ is good but their a little more expensive. What I like about our LKQ is they will attempt to color match parts. It does cost a little more but factoring in paint cost it's a deal. Might have to wait a couple days if not in stock. Clean it up, just change what you have to. Some youngster will grab that up. Or, part it out ? Anxious to follow the progress.

That airbag sensor only works when there is power applied so it would not go off later from earlier hits. I did some work on my own CoPart car and took the sensor off but I think would be fine as long as no power was applied when it was being banged near.

But, it's all come together. Got a hood from a salvage yard, but hood isn't latching all of the way, it's catching somewhere on the hood, I must need some spacers put onto the hood latch. I have pretty much everything fixed now except a bumper cover crack and now my trunk doesn't pop and it's set off a security code and now the car won't start at all, starter doesn't even click when you turn to crank.

Also, it helps to clean every other sensor! like the iac, (if it has one) o2 sensor's & sometimes, the catalytic convertor, if needed! Also, many people don't keep up all needed repairs like changing all fluids, timing components, fuel filter & all other filters & etc. Don't you love when people don't know how to fix their car so, They drive it into the ground, sometimes, literally into a swamp or pond. My car, It has been one thing after another with spurts of time where it runs good for 10-15k with no problems & then something will fail inevitably. I do all my own repairs & keep up with all needed maintenance!!! I don't trust my life in someone else's hands! I have been burned before by mechanics who are out to make a quick dollar, misdiagnose a job & or one who sabotages someone's vehicle when they get proven wrong!!!

Uber Man btw, I just received a deposit into my bank account this morning from a lawsuit I opted in too against Lyft. Was a nice amount of money.

I PM'd you the screenshot of it in FB
@hwrida6 жыл бұрын
Uber Man also man, your admin was basically calling me a liar about my post on the settlement. So I posted the deposit and asked him how that was chump and he's now booted me or something from the FB page. I can see posts but I can't respond and he deleted all the responses on my post from others. Pretty childish behavior.

@AutoAuctionRebuilds6 жыл бұрын

If I were him I'd fight it in court myself. I don't think he has anything to stress over. I tried talking to him in the comments but I never got a reply. We were supposed to do a hangout together but that hasn't happened yet either. He's a busy guy. Meanwhile I'll be pumping out cars and videos as fast as I can to grow my channel. #goals

As it sits now what would you sale it for??
@AutoAuctionRebuilds6 жыл бұрын
It wouldn't be any fun to sell it now and not get to finish the series :) I'd let it go for $1250. Parts needed are at LKQ for about $250 before tax. I'll be using a Cobalt front end.
@Mr.CookieakaJoel6 жыл бұрын
Uber Man what would it be worth to you all finisheed because your right you have to finish the video series first

I love these cars. Only reason why is because I can fit in it and my height is 6'3".
@AutoAuctionRebuilds6 жыл бұрын
It's a decent car for how small it is. I do like it as well.
@Lincolnator7216 жыл бұрын
Uber Man I was surprised. The MPG is pretty good too. I had the 4 door cobalt as a driver's ed car and that thing was peppy but too small for me. I fit in the 2 door version like a glove.

Heard some noises while you were driving in your yard. Struts?
@AutoAuctionRebuilds6 жыл бұрын
That was going over massive holes / bumps lol. Almost every car does that driving in this lumpy yard.

LKQ? Isn't there a Pick n Pull down there? They're cheaper.
@AutoAuctionRebuilds6 жыл бұрын
Already got parts at LKQ. Lost a driveshaft in the Jeep, which really screwed up my day. Hitting Pull-A-Part tomorrow.
