The first time I heard this song I was laying in my bed tripping on acid and his voice was turning me into an eagle flying over mountains and when he said would you let it go i said yes and just as I said that I exploded and had the most amazing trip ever like I was traveling through time with the whole song and he was guiding me. Per Glenn its about the search for knowledge and understanding of oneself... To expand on that, it´s about how one feels he is living in his own darkness (lost), but wants to know the truth, and yet all that truth and power lies inside himself, as in "looking inside his empty soul" where the noose of all the undiscovered fears and insecurities lies; that prison which needs to be worked through, and let go. Hence "would you let it go" stands as both a question and a comment, and "show me How the Gods Kill" stands for the yearning to have all these doubts removed instantly, which is unrealistic. This song is truly about the quest for personal power and self-knowledge.

Danzig is really into the occult, and this is reflected in a lot of his lyrics. Chances are that How The Gods Kill is meant literally, not metaphorically
@richardnash61113 жыл бұрын
Occultism has a lot to do with the search for knowledge that is often said to be held in secret by said Gods. He's saying he's willing to sacrifice himself in his pursuit. The entire song is about allowing one's Will to become further personified.

When I was about 15-16 and holy cow I’m getting chills just starting to write this but true story me cousin introduced me and my other cousin and a buncha my friends in the 90s and instantly to the lyrics and the sounds,We partied a lot for 2 whole summers to Danzig,Anyways later in life we all got job and my one cousin ended up in jail around the time my other cousin his name was Vince who introduced us to Danzig went out to work in the oil make killer money…On his way him after a month on the oil patch he was returning home and decided to stop in an old town he lived in and drink at the bar with some friends,They tried to take his keys 🔑 and he fought them and left the bar and drove off and him and and another fella flipped their truck on a gravel road and drown in the river below upside down and died,Then after he passed away during the funeral my cousin Derek who was in jail I mentioned ended up getting a pass to get out for the funeral and ended up asking me if I wanted a tattoo cause he mentioned learned 4 years of tattooing during his stay in jail…So I asked him for the Danzig skull and he did an amazing job putting it on my shoulder and said he would work on it again but he ended up dying later in life he was murdered by some drug dealers with fentanyl,My belief to the awnser to the question about what is the Meaning of HOW THE GODS KILLS…Well I believe what happened in my story is how the gods they can take a life that was once given and not have any remorse what so ever cause we all sin but some sins cannot be forgiven and the gods will show you there is no forgiveness in the most dire situations…Check out the Danzig song called Soul On Fire 🔥please

The title song "How the Gods Kill" concerns a search for knowledge and an understanding of oneself. The album's cover is a 1976 painting called Meister und Margeritha (The Master and Margarita) by famous Swiss artist H. R. Giger,, named after Mikhail Bulgakov's novel The Master And Margarita. For the album cover, Giger modified the original painting slightly, covering "the Master's" erect penis with a dagger bearing his interpretation of the Danzig skull symbol. Giger's version of the Danzig skull was later used on T-shirts and as the cover art for the "Dirty Black Summer" single.

LOL That part where you said "What the hell?" was literally a live-action reproduction of the cover for the "How the Gods Kill" record. It's a painting called "Margarita and the Master" by H.R. Giger, you know, the guy who designed the monster for the "Alien" movies. Additional cool points because the painting was inspired in part by the awesome novel by the same name by Russian author Mikhail Bulgakov.

This was part of my daily ritual when the next Lp came out i made a playlist with all my favs from his first 4, but he really grew as a songwriter between the 2nd (Lucifuge: Danzig II) & 3rd (How The Gods Kill - Danzig III) so that by the time the 4th Danzig Lp came out in the fall of 94 (Danzig 4P) both Glenn Danzig & the band were in top form,...from the opener "Brand New God" thru the college-radio anthem of 95 "Can't Speak" bythe mid-point of the album come my 2 fav's from the album "Until You Call Upon The Dark" followed by "Dominion"; [one of Danzig's all-time best in my humble opinion]would have made any buyer of this album happy by this point, but no,...still 7 songs to go...the 3 traxx closing out the album "Stalker Song"; then another gut-wrenching crooner like on Glenn Danzig can pull-off because of his creds"Let It Be Captured", is flawless a lesser singer would have bungled it making it cheesey ; luckily Danzig is all about whatever is needed to pull-off a song will be done & with that being said this Lp is a total rollercoaster, so when "Invocation" begins it sooooo doesn't feel like the last song on an album...& that's my reasoning to try to get you to give Danzig's fourth Lp "4P." a clopse listen it's so close to what i call a perfect soundtrack to life kind of album . I hope you give it a listen i promise ya won't be dissappointed!L8rsk8r!!
