Signing Havertz is a bit of a headscratcher for me too, he's obviously too good for just 'squad depth'. Maybe Arteta is envisioning a more 'offensive' midfield with both Odegaard and Havertz at the same time, and Rice holding it down as the 6 but no real 8 on his midfield? Maybe he thinks he can some how make it work to let Odegaard or Havertz play that 8 role? I can't really tell but Havertz was never a striker to begin with. He shined as a real 10 behind the striker at Leverkusen, so I guess that's the role he will want to use him as. But I figuered if Rice comes in as the new 6 then Partey will play the 8 role in that midfield. Perhaps he just wants more variation to play with both Odegaard and Havertz for those kind of games where you play teams that have 5 at the back for more offensive power, so you decide between Havert/Odegaard/Partey depending on the game and the opponent? As an Arsenal fan at this point I'm just willing to 'trust the process' and let Arteta cook lol.

That's the thing though, he's not too good to just be squad depth at a club that aspires to contend for league titles and compete in champions league but if the transfer fee is really 50-60 mil he will definitely be too expensive to just be squad depth.

I get that Havertz hasn't done very well since he came to Chelsea, but I think it's unfair to judge his abilities based on his time at Chelsea because he has been played out of his real position, where he played his best at Leverkusen, almost the entire time. He was mostly used as a striker or a 'false 9', or as an 'inverted' winger, but he's really a classic 10 who needs an actual 9 and some wingers infront of him to do what he does best. Plus Chelsea have had a historically bad season this year where nobody performed as well as we know some of them can. I do agree if Arteta does decide to buy him he's probably not going to just take Odegaards, or even Jesus' starting spot. But to buy a guy like Havertz solely for the bench as a back-up for Odegaard seems like a waste of money when you already have Viera and Smith Rowe... I don't think it would be wise to spend 50-60 million for him if that's the plan, so my guess is Arteta does see a role for him in the starting line up to some degree, perhaps having him play together with Odegaard if he thinks he can make it work.

I feel like Arteta will be playing Havertz in the Xhaka role. Someone that pushes up the field with deep runs as he is a smart player for that. It also takes a lot of pressure off Ø as he's realistically our only main playmaker imo. Having Havertz and Ø would allow even more creativity, especially if we sign Declan Rice had our CDM

He is no natural striker, but everyone thinks he is ( actually dont know where this came from and dont know why hes playing as the only striker, even in the national team🤷‍♂️ ). He was soo good at leverkusen when he played on the wing/in cam. Now hes getting hated by chelsea fans cause he doesnt perform good, but they dont know what his real role is. I reckon Odegaard will play a more deeper role than his usual CAM position, perhaps a more box-to-box role, and Kai Havertz will be the classic no.10 behind Jesus; this means that Rice can hold the fort, but he is progressively getting better and better at moving forwards. That midfield trio looks scary.

I’m wondering if Arteta is doing positionless attack. Where you’re in a zone but if a forward teammate enters the zone you were occupying, you swap to the zone they just left. I think we could see arsenal play a 3-4-3 next season With rice (hopefully) & partey, Jorginho, Lavia or caicedo playing as DMs (rice being slightly more advanced) This will then allow us to have 2 attacking midfielders. To which havertz & ødegard will most likely start, and smith rowe and viera being backups
