In this weeks video I start to build up my 2.1 pinto engine ready to go into my Mk2 Escort. If you've been following the engine progress you'll know that I recently rebuilt the cylinder head and it's now time to fit everything back together to create a fully functioning engine again! I started by painting the 2.1 block and re-fitting some sensors, then I moved onto fitting my RS2000 style sump and torqued the bolts to spec. Once this was all done I fitted a new head gasket along with the cylinder head and torqued down all of the new head bolts.
Next up was the tricky part! I fitted the timing belt using the marks on the crank pulley and cylinder head as usual but because I've fitted a fast road cam I needed to adjust my verifier cam pulley to suit. I first started by measuring tree TDC using my DTI gauge. Once that was complete I moved onto no.1 inlet valve and measured when fully open. This took a little while to figure out but I got there in the end, hopefully this video is useful for anyone else setting up a cam.
Overall I'm very happy with the progress I've made, the engine is ready to go into my escort now and get wired up/plumbed in! I also let on any the end of the video that I have just purchased a very expensive part for the engine which sucks the air in...!
