11:50 The Durin's Folk (a clan of Dwarves) and the Noldor (a faction of the Elves) where great friends in the second age. The door of Khazad Dum that you referenced is elven build. Celembribor (the ring maker) and Galadriel especially consider themselves equal to them. As a matter of fact the name Mithrill was given to Moria's silver by Celembribor. Their friendship lasted well long in the third age, that's why Gimli (who is of Durin's folk) is so happy to meet Galadriel. The animosity of elves and dwarves that the movies play strongly, is only between Sindarin (which Legolas is part of) and the dwarves especially but not exclusively those of the blue mountains.

You also forgot the super super important bit about Gimli and Galadriel: The 3 strands of hair she gives him being representations of her denials to Feanor the creator of the Silmarils, her own kin
@CaptainMyron Жыл бұрын
Yes and to add to that, her hair is supposed to have absorbed the light of the trees, so it is a huge gift to give. Also the fact that Noldor and the dwarves have a very important connection to Aule the smith.@@andrewmeyer3599

@@stefanfranke1724 Yes Feanor only asked for one strand of hair, but he had asked her *three* times. Her giving Gimli those three strands is monumental

The elves beef with the dwarfs has always been rooted in the fact that dwarfs were not created by iluvatar. Many elves looked down on them because of that and would look for any reason to form a grudge. Being looked at as lesser obviously didn't sit well with the dwarfs either. I always liked how the dwarfs have to really prove they belong in this world. The way i look at it certain elves that befriend the dwarfs are the elves that recognized they were true children of iluvatar just like them. The dwarfs and elves go further back then the second age as well. The dwarfs of the blue mountains worked with the elves a lot in the first age and when there home was destroyed most of them moved to Khazad Dum.

A friend of mine bought this on PS5 and shared it with me. I was a bit skeptical but we've played a good chunk co-op and I've done a small amount of solo. The game is solid, the combat could use a bit of polish and the menus are kinda irritating but the overall exploration, mining and building are plenty fun enough and it seems like it gets much more complex later on with building and crafting. The experience is a lot more fun with friends but it's still perfectly fine solo.

Heh stone working is definitely among the most primary skills of the Dwarves hehehe, in The Hobbit we learn: "So now they began to labour hard in fortifying the main entrance, and in making a new path that led from it. Tools were to be found in plenty that the miners and quarriers and builders of old had used; and at such work the dwarves were still very skilled." So yeah, they are always very skilled stone workers hehehe. Regarding the 'elven quarter' it's kind of a strange creative choice. Elves certainly passed through Khazad-dum, Galdriel did so herself, and through the help of Dwarves contacts were made between Eregion and Lorinand(Lothlorien) and even the elven forces going in to help Eregion in war with Sauron passed through the halls and along with dwarven troops attacked Sauron's forces ravaging Eregion: "But in the meantime the power of Galadriel and Celeborn had grown, and Galadriel, assisted in this by her friendship with the Dwarves of Moria, had come into contact with the Nandorin realm of Lórinand on the other side of the Misty Mountains. 5 This was peopled by those Elves who forsook the Great Journey of the Eldar from Cuiviénen and settled in the woods of the Vale of Anduin [The Silmarillion p.94]; and it extended into the forests on both sides of the Great River including the region where afterwards was Dol Guldur. These Elves had no princes or rulers, and led their lives free of care while all Morgoth's power was concentrated in the North-west of Middle-earth; 6 "but many Sindar and Noldor came to dwell among them, and their 'Sindarizing under the impact of Beleriandic culture began." It is not made clear when this movement into Lórinand took place; it may be that they came from Eregion by way of Khazad-dűm and under the auspices of Galadriel." ... "Elrond had gathered such a few of the Elves of Eregion as had escaped, but he had no force to withstand the onset. He would indeed have been overwhelmed had not Sauron host been attacked in the rear; for Durin sent out a force of Dwarves from Khazad-dűm, and with them came Elves of Lórinand led by Amroth. Elrond was able to extricate himself, but he was forced away northwards, and it was at that time [in the year 1697, according to the Tale of Years] that he established a refuge and stronghold at Imladris (Rivendell). Sauron withdrew the pursuit of Elrond and turned upon the Dwarves and the Elves of Lórinand, whom he drove back; but the Gates of Moria were shut, and he could not enter. Ever afterwards Moria had Sauron's hate, and all Orcs were commanded to harry Dwarves whenever they might." The Unfinished Tales One must take note that travelling through one side of Moria to the other took about 4 days or so. Even an elven army who was no doubt swift in marching would take a while to cross. Obviously Elves and Dwarves lived for a while as neighbors, Noldor in Eregion and so on, one can imagine the elven craftsmen (and for other purposes) coming and going and maybe staying for a while among the Dwarves for a visit. This kind of also reminds of Eól the Dark Elf visiting Dwarves of Nogrod. "Now the traffic of the Dwarves down from the Blue Mountains followed two roads across East Beleriand, and the northern way, going towards the Fords of Aros, passed nigh to Nan Elmoth; and there Eöl would meet the Naugrim and hold converse with them. And as their friendship grew he would at times go and dwell as guest in the deep mansions of Nogrod or Belegost There he learned much of metalwork, and came to great skill therein." ... "It came to pass that at the midsummer the Dwarves, as was their custom, bade Eöl to a feast in Nogrod…" The Silmarillion, Quenta Silmarillion, Ch 16, Of Maeglin Personally I doubt that there would be any sort of permanent presence, but periodic visits and stays. In First Age in elven realm of Doriath, in Menegroth there were actual quarters set apart for the visiting Dwarves so it could be something like that. "In those days the Dwarves still came on their journeys into Beleriand from their mansions m Ered Lindon, and passing over Gelion at Sam Athrad, the Ford of Stones, they travelled the ancient road to Doriath; for their skill in the working of metal and stone was very great, and there was much need of their craft in the halls of Menegroth. But they came now no longer in small parties as aforetime, but in great companies well armed for their protection in the perilous lands between Aros and Gelion; and they dwelt in Menegroth at such times in chambers and smithies set apart for them." But of course it's not like in real world cities where one could find 'ethnic enclaves' or districts where particular groups gather and live...it's not Chinatown style to use the 'american examples'. One can expect some periodic presence, also in times of peace especially in case of Erebor when the Dwarves had close relationship with Men of Dale, when the sons of Men were send as apprentices to practice under dwarven masters, this would probably require years of training though whether such a situation would require them to live in dwarven halls is anyone's guess: "Kings used to send for oursmiths, and reward even the least skilful most richly. Fathers would beg us totake their sons as apprentices, and pay us handsomely, especially in foodsupplies, which we never bothered to grow or find for ourselves." Rarely there are situations when the members of various races live together side by side, Men and Hobbits in Bree, the various elven peoples mingled together at various points, or when the Edain first settled in Beleriand there was some mingling with Men living side by side to Elves until the lands of their own were set aside ruled by their own lords (like Dor-lómin and Ladros etc.) or refugees of lands laid waste living together be it Men or Elves in havens at Mouth of Sirion. But this elven quarter, entire forested area almost...underground within the halls? Kind of strange :), the elves helping the Dwarves make some sort of small gardens or patches of plants to make things more homely but this?

I love that games we have dreamed of for ages are finally becomming a thing like hogwarts legacy this and many more. And this is just the beginning of amazing games. just think what games are gonna be in 20 years from now. When you think of it gaming really only started in like the 70s and started to take a hold in the 80s so in 40ish years we went from snake and cubes bouncing back and forth on a screen to having entire worlds and 2nd lives where thousands of hours of content exist.
