In the 1984/85 season of League Division One, Norwich City got relegated in one of the craziest ways ever. In that season, there were 22 teams, and the bottom 3 at the end got relegated (3 points for a win). On the 14th of May, 1985, they faced Chelsea away from home in their final game and they beat them 2-1 which brought them up to 49 points and they stood in 18th. However, two teams below them, West Ham United and Coventry City, still had games to play. West Ham still had 2 games left and were on 48 points, whilst Coventry had 3 games left and were on 41 points. The Londoners still had to play Ipswich and Liverpool but they managed to win one of them and drove them to safety. The Midlands club still had to play already-relegated Stoke City, Luton Town in mid-table and already-champions Everton but spectacularly, they won all three games. With those results piled on each other, Norwich City ended up getting relegated from the top flight with a very high points tally.
