The 2nd Congo Civil War was the deadliest war in Africa's history, and the world's deadliest since the second world war. So today I recreated it in the hit strategy game hearts of iron 4 in the millennium dawn mod. Quite possibly one of my most painful games, absolutely redonkulous.

Fun Fact: The troops you circle don't actually die, but become POWs. Which means that, if you want to maximize NODs (Number of Dead), you kinda have to attack them upfront

From the 1960s to the 1980s! I know about because I represented South Africa in a Model UN historical committee about the Yom Kippur War and we had a crisis of me sending uranium to Israel...at the end of the conference, after agreeing to give a lot of uranium to Australia in different deals, Australia ended up nuking Cape Town. Good times! So South Africa’s nuclear weapons doctrine was designed for political leverage rather than actual battlefield use, specifically to induce the US to intervene in any regional conflicts between South Africa and the Soviet Union or its proxies. The government believed a demonstration of its nuclear capability, such as an underground nuclear weapons test in the Kalahari, would provoke the USSR to threaten the US with a dangerously escalating military confrontation unless South Africa was constrained, which in turn would motivate the US to intervene and seek an end to the conflict in Angola. To achieve a minimum credible deterrence, a total of six nuclear weapons were covertly assembled by the late 1980s. Before the anticipated changeover to a majority-elected ANC government in the 1990s, the South African government ended the program in 1989, dismantled all of its nuclear weapons, the first state in the world which voluntarily gave up all nuclear arms it had developed itself!

We were against the Comintern, the free British colonies, the communist uk, the Nordic countries, the French, the Spanish, the Italians, the Belgians, the Chinese and in our faction we had the USA and Japan both of us got capitulated because the us refused to help at all
