I'd like to point out that their friends (likely around their ages), on the other hand, weren't nearly as wise. That likely had an initial influence on OP that was later cemented by his family (even though they only had the brother's version of events). It's hard to know what's right when everyone is telling you the opposite. I think there's a lot of hope for OP, and I don't think the family is as awful as it originally seemed. The aunt was kinda badass for calling the brother out in front of the cops.

I remember the second story. I also remember someone calling Lola's defense of herself assault on the brother. Who physically grabbed a sleeping woman, shook her awake, screaming/ being loud while wearing a mask to scare her. I don't have a sleeping disorder, but I feel like in that situation if I woke up to a random man Shaking me and yelling at me in a mask I would react violently too. Either that Or I would try to run. Fight, flight, or freeze are usually scared reactions, if you want to scare someone don't be upset when you get the fight response from some people.

What he did was 100% assault and battery, assault because it's an implied threat(Unknown person in a mask), and battery which is added after 'touching her' in a violent/harmful manner. At least OP fought back against them, rather then siding with them.

She might not have a sleeping disorder. She could have been traumatised at some point in her life. This seems to be a full blown trauma response. Something that happens when you trigger somebody and they immediately go into fight mode because they feel they have to fight for their life. I've been put into trauma responses as a result of my PTSD and I become absolutely violent because I black out and it takes awhile for me to come back to my senses.

I think he's damn lucky she didn't break his nose! I sleep heavy, and an ambulance could go by and not disturb me, BUT if someone should very quietly enter the room I can either smell them or just feel the air disturbance I really don't know what it is that wakes me. I just lay there & they try to not wake me. If they acted like that kid did either I would have a heart attack or he would be in a hospital (I just don't know how I would react but it would not be good) I'm sure a few YEARS of therapy is in order !!!

Part of OP'S problem is his brother's bad behavior was excused and accepted in his family. He could not see it as problem until he was forced too. He rationalized it has harmless. But in reality his brother was bullying his girlfriend. It should have been a hard shutdown after the first "prank" Pranking is never a good idea.

Story 1 is one of my all time favorite Reddit stories. It's just so insane and the update honestly produces more questions than answers. Did the woman know he took it? Was she just going around with one leg trying to find it/get it back? Did the brother get charged with anything? Man second story is rough. I understand why Lola's friends were so defensive but I also totally understand why op didn't react well in the moment. Some people just don't deal well with stress like that, and the fact he didn't immediately start defending his brother, who he clearly adored, as a small miracle. Ad for his family, I'm so glad his aunt eventually saw sense, but with how his mother is dealing and enabling Ians shit behaviour, its no wonder he's gotten this bad. Story 2 is insane, he went into a sleeping woman’s room with a mask on, shook her awake and was screaming in her face… how is that a “prank”? How did he think she would react? He was trying to scare her on purpose for his own sick thrills and it backfired tremendously. Good on Lola for defending herself, how was she to know the random man who snuck into her room was this insane idiot? I’m not surprised at all that the golden child lied about the whole situation and never mentioned she was alone and sleeping, he KNEW how that would look and was banking on his mom and aunt blindly supporting him, which they did until they decided to actually listen to OP and the truth. It’s insane knowing he genuinely sees no problem with his behaviour, he wants to play the victim whilst terrorising women, he’s DANGEROUS! Yooo i work in the medical device industry and i have some knowledge about prosthetics. Prosthetics are sometimes buried with the customer, and if not, sometimes they're returned to the manufacturer and any parts good enough to be reused are used as loaner parts for when their prosthetics are in for repairs. Any parts too worn get recycled by the manufacturer.

Ah the brother prank post, a very irritating one. It never fails to annoy me how there isn’t a single person in this story that knows how to communicate without screaming and crying. Also, I’ve said it many times and I’ll say it again, I don’t know where folks get the idea that people can go against their family as easily as flipping a switch. I’m sure for some it’s super easy, barely an inconvenience, to immediately become objective and have no problem dropkicking a parent or sibling, but not everyone is built like that. Prior to this incident he believed his brother was harmless so it’s understandable that such an incident would’ve been a shocking experience that would cause him to freeze up and prevent him from standing up for his girlfriend. It’s incredibly easy to say what OP should’ve done from a third person perspective after the fact, and even more so to condemn him for not immediately jumping into action, but it’s a whole different ballpark when you’re in the middle of it, with a girlfriend panicking and a brother that was beat up and everyone yapping at your ear. OP should’ve put a stop to it a long time ago, but again, that’s his (at the time) dear and beloved brother we’re talking about and the previous pranks were, quite frankly, not that big a deal and when they were gonna escalate OP took Ian to the side to tell him off. Lola has every right to break up with OP, that doesn’t mean OP is some horrible, irredeemable monster. He froze up, it’s natural, and the only thing he can do know is he better.

First of all, Reddit is the most anonymous platform you can ever use in your lifetime so there’s no way that strangers will even know who they are so it’s not even as personal information is being shared and that scenario Fast-forward where it gets weird is because if I was in his shoes, even though he definitely dropped the ball there’s no question about that but if she was breaking up with me anyway then I wouldn’t even try anymore because what’s the point fuck it but I was still cut the goofy brother off because he’s a weirdo to say the least Not only that she shows up with her that’s just weird and disturbing I mean, OP never posted about her because there was no information given.
