In my opinion, your father's vision for his family was for your Best Interest. And his TIMING was spot-on 👍🏾 If you came back here, you would't even recognize it. Nothing has been the same since COVID. Glad to see you doing well 😊

Y’all left the states just in time!!! Your father and mother are very smart people and plus with your dad having a military background he know some things. The best thing to do for us POC is to have multiple forms of incomes, be well educated in various different fields, know multiple languages, be well traveled and invest into properties not only in the states but over seas as well. I am working towards that. U.S.A is not the end all be all. I love it here and it will always be home but I have always imagined myself living bicoastal

Have a few questions: How much do you recommend an American to save before they move to Gambia and live comfortably? Is it hard for Americans to find a job that pays decently enough to sustain being in The Gambia? What are some of the average jobs available? Do you have to worry about xenophobia ? How fluent are you in wolof? What are the challenges with the language?
@NiceIsBetterАй бұрын
In my advice I would recommend that you visit many different parts of Africa before deciding to relocate. Also, Africa is not the type of place to go looking for work. There are very few jobs there😢💯.
@Chosenones572Ай бұрын
Great questions! I hope I'm able to hear her response to them
@Chosenones572Ай бұрын
@@NiceIsBetterI think u are right. Everyone that I know that has moved to an African country has visited and made the money and plans to have their own business. My uncle used to visit Ghana once or twice a year for 5 years before he built a hotel. It's beautiful 💕
@fionapearson3284Ай бұрын
Are you intending to live there permanently? Probably about $250,000 would be my estimate. Most people in the Gambia seem to be self-employed or perhaps more accurately under-employed. I don't think that many have a stable salaried position or manage to work full time hours - especially out of tourist season. I struggle to believe the quoted average salary of 15,900 Dalasi a month! 5,000 Dalasi seems much more reasonable (although still higher than most self-employed). For some context I found a report in 'Gambian' that the 2020 salary for a police constable was about 3,500 Dalasi a month. 'Freedom newspaper' gave the 2024 salary as less than 5,000 Dalasi. A 2021 report gave the monthly salaries for the civil service as between 1241 Dalasi (Grade 1) and 9,318 Dalasi (Grade 12). The July 2024 figure for the Commissioner of Police (Grade 12) was 204,438 Dalasi per year according to 'Whats on Gambia'. You are unlikely to find a decent paying local job. Can you work remotely (digital nomad)? It costs a lot in local terms to live a western style life in the Gambia, for example the cake Ricki bought in the recent video was 3,800 Dalasi. Check out some of her other videos for rental examples/costs.

Would you have liked the US uni life experience?
@rickideniseАй бұрын
I can’t say.. 🤨 I always used to fantasize about it, only because of what I would see in the media.. the romanticized version of it - parties, sororities, all the fun stuff. Lol. And my friends stories sounded so exciting.. But it just never seemed that necessary for me to go to college..and I still stand by that. So many people I know who went to uni, are currently in debt, and some who I know who have graduated are struggling to find a job, and/or the jobs they ended up with have no relation to the degrees they got. So it seems in some cases, college is lowkey a scam..
@Chel_oluАй бұрын
@@rickidenise I get it totally. College for me was rewarding. But that’s mainly because I went to community college and used my degree. There are degrees that people can seek that have better job outlooks. It’s just about doing research and knowing what you want out of college and career life.

Telling a Gambian to go visit a therapist 😂
@rickideniseАй бұрын
It sounds very foreign.. trust me i get it.. however, i do know of some Gambians who’ve actually gone to therapists here. You do what helps you..it could save your life. You might laugh, but until you’re in the position where you feel like there’s no one else to talk to, things like this could really save your life. Especially if there’s not anyone in your family or friends you can tell your problems to without judgement. That’s just my opinion 🤷🏽♀️
