I live in the same state as some of my siblings and we barely see each other so I know how you feel. People have their families, friends, jobs etc and their own life and it is what it is. I reach out at times but I’m not going to feel like I’m going to be the only person reaching out and trying to hang so I let it go. I do hope you’re able to comeback to America and visit next year. And even if you did wear make up just to go to the beach, and? People need to mind their business. I’m getting back on my fitness journey too, I already do alot of walking since I take public transit at the moment and I’m starting to do my yoga again. ✨ #youslay Loved this update and you’re doing great. Post when you want to. Practice makes better not perfect. 🌸

Yeah.. it’s sad.. I wish it wasn’t like that , but like you said, it is what it is. 😕 Wishing you all the best, sis. It does feel hard sometimes, but all you can do is just continue to live your own life. Those that want to make an effort, will do it. Period. And ouu I love that! I’m looking to get back into yoga! A new studio just recently opened up, & I’m thinking of giving it a go again.. I’ll keep you updated! ✨ Thank you for watching & for your continuous support. Much love ❤️

Good seeing you. I can relate to not being organized which leads to me being overwhelmed. I usually write down my tasks and tick them off as I complete them. It helps a little and frees up my minds because i can just look at the list instead of keeping it all in my head!

Family is everything! You’re right. Living in America in New York, I feel so sad sometimes. When I leave Senegal and The Gambia (Especially Gambia) to come back home to New York/The U.S.A. I’m always on the plane crying. I love Senegal and Gambia so much (Especially Gambia). I love my family so much, I wish I could talk them into us all moving from the USA to Gambia. Anyway, I’m coming back in September or October of this year (2024).

Love the transparency! I think expats often highlight the good parts of moving and I do feel like their being honest, but I am also curious about how one navigates missing family.. I can see how your parents feel more content bc they have each other and are executing a commin goal, but it makes sense your missing your siblings and friends. Your also at an age where a need for more exploration and reinvention can creep up... May you soon reconnect w/ the ones you miss 🙏🏿

Good to see you, Ricki! Is it possible for your family to organize annual family reunions? Maybe do it in Africa every third year? Like two years in the U.S., then the third year in Gambia, then two more years in the U.S. and the sixth year in Gambia (or elsewhere in Africa)? Of course, if any can schedule trips between then that would be great, but at the very least you all know you'd get together once every year. Since it's on your heart, maybe you're the one who needs to spearhead it?

Wow you hit on many topics, sounds like good conversation for a podcast. Anyway just to comment on the family in america feelings like being so distant. Just remember there's many families in America living on the same side of town that experience the same separation. America is very demanding on your personal time which makes families grow apart. You can't compare your friends closeness to their family especially if they live outside of America. I think thats one of your parent's reasoning for moving because they have more opportunity to have time with family and i also heard them say in earlier videos that they hope all the family would relocate to the gambia. They know in African culture family comes first priority unlike American culture where family is last. The wholes culture is against family.

I have a question that could apply to any African American repatriating to the African continent. To what extent do you find people born and raised in America or Europe who eventually embraced African culture while forsaking western culture. I was born in Chicago but we moved to the Virgin Islands. Some of the food was new that I still like to this day but others, not so much. I had my first mango in the VI and love them but I would need to be real hungry to eat a steamed fish head. Conch and re-hydrated cod (salt-fish) patties are amazing; a type of meat pie. I haven't been able to go in on some goat stew. I have a friend who is a member of an African royal family and he's now at 4 wives and counting. His mother, his dad's favorite wife, recruited a new younger lady to join the family. I told him my wife would *(@#$ my ()*$@# if I as much as thought about it, let alone recruit someone. Of course, I wouldn't agree even if she did. I can't imagine American or European ladies who relocate to Africa being okay with that. Maybe I'm wrong.

Excellent post! I really enjoyed hearing your unfettered opinion on dating, life in Gambia, and the need to have strong family connections. Hopefully you and the rest of your family will come back home to your “tribe” here in the US. You all are Americans living in The Gambia. That is a fact that will never change. Also, a lot of my younger fraternity brothers would love to visit with you here in The States, or The Gambia. That Indian that you are currently dating wouldn’t stand a chance( a half-hearted joke). In all seriousness, your transparency in this vlog was really nice. Continued Blessings to you and your family!👍🏾

As African l did expect you and your family to return to America someday for better quality of life. African Poverty versus American Racism the majority will choose American racism. Good luck. 😊

@@Karisma187everyone in the US isn't dodging bullets! I am AA and live in a gated neighborhood, 4 bdrms, 21/2 bath, 2 car garage, large home , 2 adults, 1 child ! Very quiet neighborhood, mixed culture s of people! Have been here for years, no problems , no police incidents , no drive-bys! Not bragging, this is only to state that all blk Americans are not struggling! We do not get harassed by whte people or the police! Well aware of life's situations, but lets not act like all blk people need to run to Africa, poverty, no jobs, different culture & separation from family staying in the US! If that's your choice, have at it, but don't try to convince everyone how they should live their life! Are you gonna fund their move to Africa, assure they are happy? I think not! there's definately racism in America, but we don't choose to run to Africa as America is where we were born! We choose to stay! Most blk Americans that run to Africa do so because their lives aren't so great in America & they scream racism & the police! It is not perfect nor will Africa be! We don't get harassed by the police, and a lot of blks that do never admit to wht puts them in the positions they are in! Our daughters are college educated as is many members of my family, also living in very nice neighborhoods, different states and have had no bad incidents with cops! Seems most AA who only see Africa as a choice might have some underlying problems that they don't speak on!

@@K2Kumasi Banjul is not a city bro , and it is not where all the business are in Gambia ,Ghana had to be bailed out by the IMF recently because how high the inflation are ,Ghana economy also has been significantly decreased, although Ghana is more developed then Gambia ,Ghana prosper doesn’t seem good at the moment ,if you look at Gambia ,Gambia in 2024 is one of the fastest growing economy in the world ,it really shows that although Gambia is going through a lot of hardships ,it is actually improving now and hopefully it will continue to do so ,Ghana economy needs to also change as at one point was also the one of the fastest growing economy but not anymore since Ghana economy is actually shrinking due high inflations .I want to see all African countries to keep developing,9 out of top 20 growing economy in the word are African countries which shows that we Africans can grow and improve our countries .

keep growing beautiful girl. treat yourself well, just a little piece of advice for you. incase you wanna visit any other African country or outside Africa you should consider the language barrier you'll face in that environment always bear in mind the language/languages you speak will make the environment you're living conducive for you since you won't be struggling to understand what the person you're talking with is saying. 🤎
