I feel like every design change reason y'all brought up are exactly why they weren't used. The first one wasn't in the Pokemon style, the second didn't have enough differences between evolutions, the third looked like a shark's head on a chain, etc.

Examples include, Pidgeotto being Pigeon, Haunter being Ghost, Krabby being Crab and Moltres being Fire. So it likely would have stayed as Deer in Japan.

A lot of the designs were not used for various reasons (including space available for the games at the time) but a good chunk of the were actually reworked into later pokemon.

Grotesque is super adorable. Ratora looks like a cute kitty. Ikari just looks like a keychain. OMG...Warwolf is so cute and fluffy. Crocky's original drawing is creepy looking, but I like how you all came together to create him. He's my anxiety come to life. Deer original looks like a mix of a deer, lizard/dragon, and moose. It came out so well, and it looks majestic.

Hikari could have been stage 2 from Sharpedo. Just a slight color change, some gils and distress, and a star on its nose. The anchor definitely fits the dark theme. I think they could add torpedo tanks under the fins instead of part of the eyes to continue that speed theme. Maybe the addition of the anchor slows it down slightly but boosts its attack. It could even learn a unique steel move involving the anchor.

they know the names of some these beta designs due to them being from a 1997 spaceworld demo. a some what functional demo from the convention. they had completed a couple of maps and a dex worth of pokemon designs to sell people on the second generation of pokemon. the demo was rediscovered a few years ago and leaked online

I think crockys eyes could have worked better as a sort of "painted on markings that look like eyes" instead with some hidden tiny slitted eyes somewhere below ^^ to make it more pokemony

I feel like VR sculpting's, and most digital sculpting's, weak point is the more simple curved shapes like that of Pokemon. I also find myself having my sculpts be slightly lumpy no matter how much i try. That's often where people go back and retopolise, to get cleaner curves and a cleaner model overall
