This was shockingly well done. Some of the textures like the doors and HUD elements you absolutely nailed; even if they weren't entirely accurate, they were stylistically consistent with the original game. It's funny how different minds remember the same thing, I couldn't remember any of these textures for the life of me but when you modeled the castle and bridge I could immediately tell it was too big, having speedrun the game for so many years.

I love your Mario model and I agree that the face texture is better than the original. I'm absolutely interested in seeing how this continues. I loved seeing the whole process and being able to pick up some of the stuff that wasn't quite right from my own memory.

I don't mean to diss other "I remade-- from memory" creators. It's not anything about them specifically. It's just something about the circumstances of this project are especially cool, and I love the amount of work going into it
@De_an2 ай бұрын
@@DaNintendude I think it's because everything just sort of fell into place. This is a guy who has the art skills, the 3D modeling skills, and the extreme familiarity with SM64 necessary to pull something off that actually looks like Mario 64. With most "I remade-- from memory" videos, the end result usually is just the game watered down to its most basic form to the point where it's not interesting. But here, there's enough similarities to the original where it's actually fun seeing how close he got to it and what parts ended up looking not quite right. It also helps that the people watching this probably know SM64 like the back of their hand, so it almost becomes a game seeing how much you remember/don't remember while watching the video.

Being completely honest, I hate how underbaked (lack of ambition/content time constraints vs quality maybe?) so many of these concepts end up being. The idea that they're gonna recreate a whole game from scratch, and having to always realize that the creator I'm watching exaggerated that claim by the time they show the end result, or that they prioritized the content part over respecting the game recreation itself. The way you've chosen to do the concept here, was vastly more entertaining to me honestly, even as you revealed the deeper meaning to the title. The end result having accurate mechanics helps it already immensely, but the core concept of recreating an area itself just felt way better structured for viewing in general than some other videos titled similarly.
