the "2nd life" only applies for small obstacles, such as trying to change direction on a straight path, getting too close to the ledge(this ledge 9:03) and tripping over short obstacle (such as the protruding tree root you showed in the video). for smashing into a wall, jumping into a hole, not ducking under the pillar, all of these are instant deaths

@@FatDino I looked at Temple Run 1, Template Run 2 and yours. What your version capture is the urgency in the first game. Fast-paced where the level is a small passage where three paths are open (left, center, right). Template Run 2 on the other hand misses this completely. Here instead on a bridge or lifted platform you run on a route guided by rocks on the side. Making the idea of why the runner just stops and walks sideways seems like a more logical solution.

As already commented, the "2nd life" via collision are only done when interacting with small obstacles. others are instant deaths (varied and funny-annoying deaths). But the "2nd life" also has an important game mechanics: The game gets gradually faster and faster as the run mileage grows. Hitting small obstacles (even on purpose) will instantly reduce the run speed of the player, allowing for more control.

I love the work. But I don't like the T-rex sign warning idea. It is just not necessary. The idea is that when you hit an obstacle, you will slow down and the the Trex will almost catch up to you. It will be right behind you for a short period of time until eventually you pic up speed maintain a safe distance. So if you hit an obstacle again while the Trex is right behind, you die. However if you manage to get to a safe distance and then hit an obstacle, you lose momentum and the Trex will be right behind you again. The T-rex itself serves as a sign, so you don't need any further signage to demonstrate this. Second Life as a concept is not present. Here we have the idea of a buffer distance.
@FatDino Жыл бұрын
So when a TRex chasing you, it's annoying to see what's going on ahead of you (obstacles, etc) because of the angle I chosen and the size of a TRex. That's why TRex is only chasing you for a very short period of time (6-7 sec), then you speed up and get distance. It would be weird to have a "second life" every 6-7 seconds, AND it will be annoying to see TRex on your screen for 30-60 seconds ("second life" cooldown). That's why I need the sign. I agree it's bad and redundant and it would be a right decision to make it so TRex is just not preventing you from seeing obstacles so it can chase you all the time there is a cooldown, but that would require a LOT of reworking, and I only had so much time, so the sign is a workaround.

if you want to refine this further there is the red and blue coins worth 2 and 3 coins respectively and make the obstacles into 2 different tiers, 1 type that is an instant kill even if you have the second life and 1 that triggers the second life.
@clintonthart9274 Жыл бұрын
You dont get a second chance, some obstacles just slow you down and the monkeys catch up a bit. If they are already close, they get you. But if you keep running for a while without hitting anything, they will fall away again. Some obstacles will kill you immediately if you hit them.
@FatDino Жыл бұрын

its funny how easily people get fooled,, thinking this is a production ready game already… i myself have made a temple run replica using Unreal Engine 5, 80% of the game was made, the issue arises once we realise that the frame rate is as low as 20fps, as the technique shown in the video does not work the way a production ready game should. Fps was not even discussed in the video, which is the main reason why indie developers still have a pile of such games shelved.

not that it matters too much since it's just a fun experiment, and it's a very impressive job, but two thoughts anyway: -woodblock fx for coins just feels wrong. either it should be a sort of soft "ching" like metallic sound, or you should be picking up something wooden, like, idk, tablets -the t-rex is a fun idea, but it does make it very clear why the original goes for three monkeys - they're much smaller and don't obfuscate the player's screen. you end up either blocking the view of the objects or making the camera too far out. I feel like three smaller raptors, for example, would have made more sense

Amazing video and skills One thing you kinds got a bit wrong though is the fact that the “second life” you mentioned was not like you put it Instead whas when you had a light collision (tripping) not full on collision or fall Same with subway surfer for example If you’re on the right lane, and you swipe right you would collide with the right wall slowing down and showing the cop chasing you If you would do that again while cop was there he would arrest you Thats why in the video you showed of temple run it was a tree root that he would trip and nothing bigger Still amazing video and kudos for that 😊
