i think it's because you can't change the color of water in a texture pack without optifine? i've worked a bit on my own joke texture pack and i'm pretty sure you can't change water color, only texture

@@Crypticat yup! water is not stored as a pre-colored texture, but rather as a grayscale texture that then gets colored over, so that it can change color depending on the biome. grass and most leaves are the same way. (the reason grass and leaves don't appear colored in this pack specifically is because all the block and item models are broken. fluid models are hardcoded and therefore unaffected) on java edition, this color is set in a given biome's worldgen file in a data pack, while on bedrock edition, this color is set in biomes_client.json in a resource pack (though they're currently working on splitting this file into multiple).

10:50 these "black boxes" are because the vignette that normally appears in the end has been replaced with the missing texture. it can also be seen more faintly during other parts of the video, such as at 0:31
