But *it didn't survive 73,000 as a rental*! More than likely it was bought used as a cheap higher mileage car (possibly crash repair) and entered into their rental fleet. The car wouldn't even pay for itself at the rate this rental place charges if it was bought at MSRP accrued over it's usage of life.

I think it's not all his fleet. Rental companies share cars like an alliance and I think he means their alliance have a total of 400 cars. And normally not all of them are super cars. Exotic car rental companies have to keep some middle to high range cars to keep the company running.

Pretty cool video Rob. Interesting market research, but the question still remains. Would people still pay more money for a more reputable company? Is it worth starting a rental place where the consumer is just going to go for the cheaper option? The demographic for people who want to rent these cars aren't going to be the sensible consumer that you might expect from a different market.
@superspeeders8 жыл бұрын
We do a lot of rentals in Vegas and people pay to have our cars shipped from LA, we are also going to do driving tours as well so we cover the spectrum. We are going to give it a shot, hopefully the budget companies end up having to sell their inventory and go under, they bury all their losses in depreciation and hope that the cars get wrecked and they can get paid out from insurance companies.
@blakes2k8 жыл бұрын
superspeedersRob That's sounds awesome. Driving tours should sell the consumer on confidence in the product, as well as give them the opportunity to get more of the performance aspect rather than the social image. I have often wondered that if I ever became wealthy enough, would it be possible to rent, instead of own. Look at it this way. If I ever became wealthy enough to justify purchasing a supercar, which IMO means being able to afford owning a few, then renting would definitely be an option, whether as a complement to ownership, or an actual substitute. It would be so hard to decide which ones I wanted to own for myself, anyway. I'm not the best at taking care of cars, so owning a supercar might be so stressful that I would just dump all my car budget into rentals, and rental insurance. I can envision the possibility of settling for a few problems in exchange for not having to worry as much about my rental, but some of the problems with this car are pretty bad for burning $600 in one day. Another problem with that is that I, too, place a lot of value in dealing with high-integrity sales & business people. I prefer to do transactions with people who are authentic. That's just me. So, all in all, this is an awesome video. I found it very educational, and presented well.

@yucannthahvitt2518 жыл бұрын
I don't get your beef. People do NOT rent these cars to experience what a brand new factory fresh ferrari feels like, they don't rent them to take it to a track and experience the performance they provide in top condition, they don't rent them to analyze Ferrari's fit and finish. People rent these cars to look cool, attract attention and feel special for a day. You KNOW this, because YOU rent them to people! I'm pretty sure nobody but you cares about the condition of this rental Ferrari in Las Vegas, especially the people who own it and the people who rent it. They're getting to drive it and feel like hot shit for a day for 1/3rd the price vs renting from you, and they're in LAS VEGAS, a place you pretty much only go to to show off, feel like hot shit, and get attention from your peers. Renting this car is going to get them the likes they want on facebook and instagram, nobody will be able to see the panel gap or torn seat, or hear the differential or exhaust/lifter sounds.

+Yucannt Hahvitt - - I agree with you it's all about the experience and the Photo Ops. @derbigpr5008 жыл бұрын
No, they kinda don't have a point. This Ferrari will outlast any Ford ever made, easily. No Ford was designed to go for 1 million km's and still have mechanical parts within factory tolerances. This Ferrari was. Properply maintained, they last forever. INCREDBILY over-engineered cars. Most people aren't mechanical engineers tho, and don't have any inside information on these cars, so they're clueless and assume Ferrari's break down or aren't durable just because most of them never see high mileage. Again, they had cars with over 500k km's on the clock during testing, that was 90% track driving, and they still worked perfectly.

We see that all the time here in the uk - the car was once financed from a dealer they pay 3k a month and from hirin it out they walk away with 2-3k a month on top of paying the finance company, usually. Before the finance term is finished they total the car and get paid out with their insurer clear the finance off and use the profit they made from hiring it out to buy it back as a write off from the insurer lo and behold it's patched up and most likely sold in another country where they can't track that it's been damaged if not they continue hiring it out like an abused prostitute until their pockets are full, until it's time to sell the car before it's completely wrecked. All the while using dodgy insurance policies to hire it out to customers policies that aren't even hire policies eg valet policy, mechanic policy. To save money rather than buying a proper super care hire policy. There are many twists and turns in this game and I'm shocked to see its being played all over the world. Well there u have it guys.

@kevinthompson22545 жыл бұрын
I hear what he is saying. It really depends on what it is that you want in a car. Make sure you read the contract if they have one. Because a small scratch on a rim could cost you more than what you rented the car for. And if you are told that you have to buy all four rims because you did a small damage on one rim,then walk away. Once you drive off the lot your on your own. And make sure you do a walk around the car before you rent. Any scratches or dents make sure you point it out to the agent and it is noted on paper. Not them saying yea we know,because when you return guess what now your being blamed for damage that was already there,and most likely they did it to the person before that rented it just keep in mind if anything the agent says doesn't sound good to you or makes you feel uncomfortable in what you are being told WALK AWAY. Look at it this way you saved $600,now you have $600 to do something real stupid like playing the slots thinking you going to be a millionaire, and if you do win big now you can go buy your own super car. The price for a rental on a high end car at this place is ok because of all of the problems it has. And if you want to feel like a millionaire for the day then go for it because you don't when youll have another chance. This video was just warning you before you rent in las vegas. So in the end you make the final choice.

Rob, have you ever checked out Exotics Racing? I would be curious about your thoughts about their operation.
@electriccrabb8 жыл бұрын
I did it way back in 2010... I drove a Scuderia for three laps for $300. It felt a little pricey because it was over so damn fast. The early-morning event time along with the Vegas hangover didn't help, either. I stopped by about a year ago on my way through Vegas, and they'd moved from the paddock space in the LVMS infield where they were when I was there previously, to a larger track in the outlot. It's a much nicer facility, and appears to still be a nice operation. Prices are still comparable - better, actually - $349 for five laps in the Scuderia. Cars looked very nice and well-maintained, though I didn't poke my head into any interiors. I'll probably go do it again at some point and take my boy. If you're a car guy and don't have access to exotics any other way, I'd highly recommend it. Oh, and I'd much, much rather pay $750 for 12 laps in the 458 on a track at Exotics than spend $600 to drive around the traffic in Vegas in a tired, beat, and unmaintained 458 rented from a sketchy operation.
@MikeCris8 жыл бұрын
I did it a few years ago...Porsche GT3, Nissan GTR, Ferrari 458 and the Aventador. Great experience...except for the overly controlling instructor(s). 5 laps for each car is ideal.

he's not saying that at all. He's demonstrating to you that although the car may seem cheap compared to the other exotic rentals, the business model for these rental companies is to profit out of you if you bring the car back damaged - as in charging you for a full set of wheels ($10K) and probably buying just one ($2.5K) and pocketing the remaining $7.5K. He has a vested interest to find out how these companies are charging half what he is and he's clearly shown that you are not renting the same package at all. A rental Ferrari with 75K miles on the clock is the same as a privately owned one with 300K on the clock - i.e. it's fucked.

I rented a McLaren 570S Coupe for 4 hours from another exotic rental company in Vegas for just under $600 plus insurance I probably didn't really need but it did give more peace of mind to get just a little aggressive. It wasn't "to look cool" as I'm considering a purchase of this model and wanted some seat time without a salesman riding shotgun with me and babysitting my every rpm. A ridiculous expense? Maybe. But I needed to push this car beyond what I could do on a dealer test drive with a vehicle that hadn't been properly broken in yet...

As the poster says, I'd be worried about the honesty of this shop. E.g., telling renters that if they damage a wheel you have to replace all four as a (tuned?) set, that's plain ol' fraud. That makes me hyper suspicious that the company tries to collect extra profits by accusing me of redlining the engine, chipping the paint, causing a door ding, jumping the curb, or in the interior, damaging the leather. There's a reason why the guy is renting his cars so cheap, no doubt it is profiting from damage charges. (Gotta wonder how many times he was collected on that torn seat.) The guy probably sizes up each renter (excuse me, each "mark") to determine just how much money he can defraud out of the renter. Moreover, I don't have the time to spend 15 minutes looking over the car to make sure all damage is noted before I drive away. This reminds me of City Car Share here in San Francisco. Using their cars was quite handy and inexpensive (you pay by quarter hours, and 10 cents a mile or something like that). The problem was damage to the cars. They had a policy that BEFORE driving the car you had to check the car graphic on a paper stowed in the driver side sun visor. That sheet noted where there was previous damage reported. If you found other damage not marked on the paper, you were supposed to call their number and report the additional damage. Every time I used a car I would find damage that was unreported, some of it major like fender scrapes, dents, and even interior damage from spills or smoking. It was a real hassle because people being inherently dishonest would park the car, not report the damage, burn the next renter who got the damage pinned on him or her. The real creeps would deny knowledge of any damage when the Company tried to track down who caused the damage. That happened to me once. I rented a truck and returned it in undamaged condition. The next day the Company called me and asked if I put the big dent in the tail gate. I said no, the vehicle was fine. I told the CSR that if there's a dent it had to have been caused by someone after me because it was not there when I used the truck. Fortunately, because I'm aware of how dishonest even somewhat honest people can be when it comes to causing an accident or damaging a car, e.g., in a parking lot, or running a red light, I used my cell to shoot a video both BEFORE and AFTER I drove the truck. I told the CSR I had video. He was shocked that I had the videos. In any event, they never contacted me again about the truck damage.

Let's see if your bronco can handle 500k km's of track testing and driving, and still have all the mechanical parts within factory tolerances after that.

lmfao at that comeback... It has nothing to do with driving hard. Well, a little... It has to do with the optimization and goals of the company. Ford didn't push your bronco to the max to get maximum usage out of it like the cutting edge ferrari did. I have a 00 expedition with 104,xxx miles and it's starting to show it's age...

Thanks for this vid. I'm glad someone is showing how the hustle works. I didn't feel like you were beefing. To the viewers below........ There are 2 venues in Vegas where you can rent and drive exotics that are in top mechanical condition so most people won't need to rent a less than perfect exotic and take it to a track. People rent these so they can take Instagram photos and ride up and down LV Blvd trying to make girls think they are rich. If you've been to Miami it's actually so bad that people rent exotics and ride around with the windows down looking to see who's looking at them. Self esteem can't be rented folks.

And BTW, Gotham isn't going to allow (all) of their exotic rental cars to leave the lot with full horsepower either. And I don't blame them, to be honest. Letting these cars loose to the public is a large financial risk for them. Just don't think you're always getting the full tune on ALL their exotic cars.

Good point and that why there are variety lesser cars for rental. Most people are not renting all of the exotics at one time lol

He was correct about hte insurance, most rental companies rip you off with the insurance and 9 times out of 10 your own personal insurance or your credit card will cover you.

how does it not have a clutch? i'm assuming it's a double clutch transmission
@straxwb8 жыл бұрын
It is, the rental guy was most likely trying to sell some bs to the "average guy who wants to pay cash to look good in front of women, yet has no idea of how a car works". There's no clutch pedal? Just tell him it has no clutch so he can't complain about it.
