Note: A couple of days ago Porsche announced an over-the-air update to their infotainment that includes adding Android Auto to the Taycan. The Taycan already had some of this system in place so it's unclear how many of our gripes will be addressed when it arrives. Also we are aware that the Model S Plaid is price comparable to this. It wasn't shipping when we reviewed this car and we can only do one car at a time. We'll be happy to check out the Plaid when/if we can. Porsche made it easier by offering short-term rentals.

It's weird, it is like this in my 2018 Q5 - it forgets everything. But when I had an older 2014 A7 I never had to adjust anything. Every time I got in the car, it would remember all of the driver settings, HVAC settings etc. It's like they went backwards and made it worse.
@helplmchoking

This is a normal thing and is actually often an emissions thing (hangover from ICE vehicles). The testing manufacturers have to do is a fairly short drive representing real conditions, which is why your car will try to get the cats up to temp as fast as it absolutely can, it's why things like exhaust and engine settings default to the comfort modes so they can ensure it gets tested in its most eco state and it's why stop start exists, it makes fuck all difference in the real world but in a brief test run it does make a real difference. Tldr you can only emissions and safety test the car in the state it starts up in every day, so they make them reset to comfort to try and scrape through tests

One thing ima say for Linus to know, someone’s probably said it, but they didn’t under rate the hp because the numbers they give are what the engine or batteries can put out. This does not include the powertrain loss which is usually around 15% horsepower loss from the motors delivering the powers to the wheels. So while they torque is underrated, the horsepower is probably on the money
@Kitteh.B
@Kitteh.B Жыл бұрын
Also various dynos report different numbers based on the technology they use. Dynojet usually reports higher than Mustang if I'm remembering right. Plus you gotta factor in calibration, how thoroughly they input the relevant information, which can introduce variables, such as ambient temperature (for example, colder temps are better for ICE engines because cool air is more dense), and also number of tests as even three consecutive tests can have a range of results. Everything compounded, it's entirely feasible to have that kind of a discrepancy. That's to say nothing of the argument for measurement types, like hub dyno vs roller dyno and which numbers are "official" and whatnot!
@dwindeyer

Why you keep using those shitty (in terms of graphics performance) real-time OSes for touchscreens? Just have a separate computer running RTOS for anything vital, and on tablets run a regular Linux or BSD with GPU-accelerated GUIs simply interfacing with said computer (I believe that's more or less what Tesla does). Worst case scenario: if the OS on the tablet hangs - it doesn't matter cause it's not running anything important, you could just detect that it's not responding and restart the whole thing.

As a german I can totally relate to the software being not thought through completly. Germany is stuck in middle age in so many places. As long as you stay with mechanics and stuff, everything is top notch, but as soon as you come to things related to software and use cases that were born after 2000 it feels like the train left without us. (No real digital government services..paper...paper...fax, schools didnt even manage to provide online lessons during the lockdowns and it goes on like that...) Besides that, great review :)

The drifts were faked. Watch the one long last drift, there's a guy in the driver's seat with sunglasses and a different cap on backward. Besides that, you can even see that it's not Alex if you watch it in slow-mow and/or stop the video at 6:31. Also it doesn't look like a real drift, when you watch Alex inside the car steering, at least that's my perception.

It is probably the first time I've ever heard anyone complain about the infotainment in a Porsche, too, and yet car reviewers will usually be the first to point out that, say, VW Golf mk 8's climate control is hidden 3 menus deep in the infotainment, it has awful touch sliders for volume and temp, along with annoying touch sensitive buttons for headlight modes, the touch sensitive buttons on the steering wheel are garbage, etc. It's almost like there's a double standard for premium brands.

Theres definitely levels to suspension and Porsche is smooth af but that initial reaction from going from a honda to a BMW was the most noticeable. @@lurk7967 I agree that Alex deserves more name recognition, but you are seriously underestimating how much blood sweat and tears Linus had to put himself through to get his channel where it is today. There's a reason he has his position, and it wasn't down to random chance or "just because the universe is weird"

@Lurk I don't often comment, but I can't resist. This is such a pointless argument, my god. Degrees has never been equal to success, like ever, in the history of mankind. Will your probability of having success increase with one? Sure. But the outliers; the ones who rake in millions/billions a year are always more than just your avg Ivy/college grads. They always have a story behind them, an exceptional idea, an extraordinary drive to finish something they started and also in some cases, just plain old luck. You don't have a right to be a multi-millionaire just bcs you have a fancy degree. Linus has built this platform/community with over a decade of work, sacrificing elements of his life that many of his viewers can't even imagine. So please stop with this underestimation of his/or any other successful creators' work.

@@CrustStarGaming i mean, i don't agree with you putting a turbo on it. I think itb's and higher compression pistons and e85 would have done 240 easily and without the turbo lag, excessive torque and wheelspin. But I gotta say, the idea of 240 hp in a sub 1000 kg hatch with all around double wishbone and an lsd does appeal to me.

Very even-handed review. Really nicely shot, edited and styled too. I felt the same about the car when I was able to check it out at its UK launch. Exploring the interior interfaces quickly showed that it was clunky, half-finished and had some really frustrating design choices. Almost like a beta prototype. Their semi-minimalist HCI design direction is confusing and strange, when you consider how optimised the mechanical driving experience is.

Toyota listens to this kind of feedback and continually improves their cars based on it. Porsche once hired Toyota to help them improve their production practices, so hopefully that included continual improvement, or kaizen as the Japanese call it.
