I was wondering if Alonso’s spell with the club as a player meant he was given a longer leash and if there is something hidden in DiZerbi’s personality that means the board lose patience with him? All things being equal you would have expected DiZerbi to last longer

Xabi did excellent. If you look at Man U and Arsenal after Ferguson and Wenger, Liverpool would be lucky to have such a smooth transition.

Except he pretty much proved he’s not ready to manage in the PL as Emery took basically Gerrard’s exact same Villa squad from a relegation battle to European qualification. You can be a prolific former player and know a club inside and out, but if you can’t manage, it’s never going to work (Lampard proved that at Chelsea).
