I have rabbits my own since 20 years. I could see she was about to die, laying flat and horrific underweight. It happens from now to sudden. 😢 I have always just 1 pair of rabbits and their property is about 3qm indoor plus 8qm outdoor with a cat-door. In Summer another 12qm. They were scheduled to slaughter aged 3 and 5 years. Guess mother and son.

In my experience with horses, donkeys, goats, chickens, rabbits, and guinea pigs, I have found that older people (typically men) will never accept that they are doing anything wrong. This was the way they've been doing it their entire lives and everything is perfectly fine. Even in the last 10 years small animal care has come so far from what it used to be. It's sad that there are people who refuse to learn anything new, even if it would make their animals happier.

My dad experienced something similar. When he was younger, his uncle made my dad and his sibling cut the blackening blots in his fishes' fins in his aquarium because it's "spreading". Fast forward several years when we have our own goldfish tank, turns out those black things on the fins are simply the fish's body reaction to bad water quality and not a disease. Simply do water changes regularly and improve the water quality and black things are gone.

Bunnies go downhill fast. Once you notice they're sick it's often already too late. We had a close call with my friend's rabbit and it was only as good an outcome as it was because I had noticed IMMEDIATELY that he wasn't eating like he should be when I went to feed him in the morning. We had him into the vet within and hour or so (and most of that was driving time!) and we caught the problem before he went into full Stasis. Even catching it that quick (he had eaten his dinner fine the night before, this was only 12 hours later!) he still had to stay overnight at the vet for observation to make sure he recovered.

He didn't seem to care crap that the boys get among the females and he doesn't even have enough money to feed them all. He surely must know how fast these animals breed. Situations like this makes me the most angry, lazy, careless people and specially considering all the shelters are already more than full. It's not even the people causing this that makes me angry (I mean I don't know the full situation, maybe the person has dementia, mental illness) but just the whole situation and that likely lot of these animals will never find a good home and die in the shelter or put down.

He seemed to just be an older working class guy. I’ve seen some things in my life that I’d be quick to judge (animal cases) but when you get down to the nitty gritty, we are spoiled with knowledge that the older generation doesn’t have. I believe he did try, because to fully neglect them, there would be no hay down, no hides whatsoever, never any water, and they’d all be so skinny you’d see all of their bones and dead buns and pigs everywhere. It is a sad case but it could’ve been a whole different case if he was completely neglectful. He should’ve got them fixed that is on him, but saying they weren’t fed is a weird take on the video. He’s just an older guy, he could’ve completely abandoned all of them there’s so many takes he could’ve had that would’ve been far worse.

@@izzyvicente-bradley2311 An animal died in Kay’s arms, almost all the rabbits were sick, there was a separate dead rabbit, and he said they were all incredibly thin and you could feel their bones. Those rabbits that couldn’t defecate because they were impacted were going to die, quickly and painfully. One rabbit literally had a wound full of maggots. …and that’s just the rabbits! ….are you saying that the older generation isn’t aware of the necessity to defecate? That maggots shouldn’t be eating a wound? That bleeding eyes and noses (in the Guinea pigs) aren’t normal? On the surface, sure, this might have seemed fine. But once you start seeing how he handled animals, looking at their actual injuries, and hearing what they were (not) being fed, it becomes incredibly apparent that this was a huge case of neglect.

@ And once you realize how many people hunt rabbits and eat them (yes even pet rabbits that get set free) you’ll realize that rabbits could’ve had it worse. Imagine being set free in the middle of the desert and starving or being hunted that way. I see it all the time where I live. It sucks, it’s great someone is out there helping, but the crisis is so big it’ll never be completely fixed. Look at how many animals are living the same way.

I felt this frustration and anger with my ex (thus she’s my ex now). She more than once called me “meticulous” for the care of my snakes and spiders. I would daily check humidity levels and temperatures, weekly water cleans and changes and kept close tabs on feeds and snake weights. The same person who called me “meticulous” was the person who kept her snakes in way too small enclosures with no heat no humidity and some without any water. She had dead lizards and dead spiders. And I’m the meticulous one. At least I properly care for my animals.

@@knotsoangelic Care? Where was care? Uneducated is uncaring. When you have pets, their lives are in YOUR hands. If you don't learn how to take care of them, this shit happens. It is EASY to research, everyone has access to technology these days. They had phones or computers, they could have researched it. They could have went to their local library and used those computers too. But they didn't, they didn't learn the most BASIC shit about those guinea pigs. That is abuse and neglect. These guinea pigs and rabbits were neglected, neglect is abuse. They weren't cared for at all. If they cared, they would have never let it get this out of control. They would have researched and learned as soon as possible, but they failed to do so. Having pets is like having kids, you can't just have them without learning about them. If you saw someone with multiple children running around with dirty diapers in a dirty house without any decent food, water, or care, would you say that same thing? No, you wouldn't, you would agree that it is abusive and neglective and that they do not care. You clearly don't care either.
@beeboi0097
@beeboi0097 Ай бұрын
@knotsoangelic No if he cared he would have done research on how to care for them properly. A "true abuser" is someone who does not care for the lives of other creatures who depend on them, that's him. He can't claim to care about them & then treat them like this. He might not hit them or anything (as far as we know) but neglect is still a form of abuse.

I think I researched for 3-4 months before getting my piggies and even then I'm still learning. But it's definitely true! The two girls I got for my neutered boar were cooped up in a small hutch in the dark and went into gi stasis within a day of being with me because the sounds and lights etc were overwhelming. This is honestly the hardest to accept for younger people in general - that some (usually older) people really are unbelievably uneducated, nor do they even seek out the knowledge for themselves. They don't even know how to access the resources we have now, or have no interest in them. This goes for everything, not just animal care but also culture, geography, politics, health. We are the smartest (to a fault) generation to have ever lived, and also most compassionate towards animals, because the value of education and sustainability have been ingrained in us since the 80s/90s. But it wasn't always like that, and for us it's hard to understand that a lot of people really don't know anything but the things they've been doing their whole lives.

He sounded old I bet he didn’t even see the conditions of the rabbits and pigs esp with how many there were. This comment section should be grateful he ever reached out instead of literal death threats to the guy. There’s a silver lining and noones seeing it and it’s cringe as hell.

Austin, you are truly the definition of an amazing young man. I could see that this rescue was taking a lot out of you, but yet you continued to persevere and rescue as many as you could. When you placed all the piggies in the temporary cage and then fed them the fresh veggies and pellets, just watching them happily eating brought tears to my eyes. I wish that each one of these precious piggies and bunnies could find an immediate loving home, but I know that isn't possible. I'm just happy that they are now safe and will be cared for properly. Thank you for taking them out of that less than ideal place and giving them a chance at their forever homes. I have such admiration for you and the other rescuers who give of their time and energy to help those who cannot help themselves.

I owned bunnies when I was younger because I won on at the 4th of July carnival in my home town. My mom and I kind of ended up just taking a crash course in rabbit care. We bought books and read up on it and went to the local pet store and talked to the woman who owned it. She was very knowledgeable about animals and was a huge help to us. People don't understand that some animals take different or more care then others. Rabbits are one of those animals.

I've kept guinea pigs since I was little (with a LOT of help from my parents) and I can't imagine having that many. The most we ever had at one time was 3 and that was the first time we got them - we gave two of those ones away because they didn't like the one we kept. There were SO many in that place dear god. They all looked so bamboozled by the whole ordeal. it's awesome that you got as many out of there as you did!!!!! and all of them so sweet too. felt my heart squeeze a bit when I saw the abyssinian, I had an albino rehomed one called Ruby a few years ago and my whole family ADORED her. she got absolutely gigantic too like almost juvenile rabbit kind of size. hope all of those squeakers are in much comfier homes with all the yummy snacks they deserve :)

Well sometimes these animals are also considered livestock not pets so it's fine to keep them that way as long as you're providing them water and food the USDA does not have very strict qualifications for how you keep animals especially if you're going to use them for food. But don't be too harsh on people because unless you don't eat meat then most animals aren't kept like a child would be

Has he bred all these animals? That's what makes me the most frustrated and angry, how does that even happen, only laziness because clearly he has not enough money and resources to even feed them all. He sounded so whatever when he said sometimes a male just get among the females, then you do something about it. Okay it may happen once or maybe even twice but here it must have happened lots of times. It's so frustrating considering how fast these animals breed, he totally put himself and the innocent animals in this situation.

Glad to know that, despite being in less than optimal conditions, they were cared for and loved to the best of someone's ability. It's unfortunate that they didn't have the knowledge to properly tend to that many animals, but at least they had room to run and move and weren't jam packed into the tiniest little space you could possibly put them in. I hope they all recover quickly if they needed any surgery or medical treatments and found great, loving homes as quickly as possible! Edit: I didn't finish the video to see that the remaining piggies were taken oops but now that I know, I'm glad everything went well! I hope the owner does what's best for the last few ones that he still has since he only has the males.
