The ashy look on the rubber soles is called blooming. It's oils in the rubber that come to the surface and oxidize turning white. Using a heat gun brings more of those oils to the surface and will cause the rubber to dry out and cause more damage in the long run than it helps. It's best to condition the rubber with a rubber rejuvenator.

That’s interesting that the heat removes the ashiness of the rubber, do you think the heat causes it to absorb moisture or what do you think is happening there?
@RESHOEVN8RКүн бұрын
We aren't too sure, it's possible! Maybe the heat evaporates the moisture as well.

If these were a size 10.5 or 11, I restored these shoes years ago for a friend at work. He ended up selling to some collector in NY for 7k. The insoles were badly stained I remember but I got it almost perfect again. If the collector is from NYC, then these are them. Smart move not completely wetting the uppers. I was afraid to do that too. I just spot cleaned very carefully with foam as well. The inside was more important.

That would be a crazy coincidence for sure! Small world!

@@RESHOEVN8R If you can, ask Vick to see if it's sourced from NYC. My friend and I work in Brooklyn for NYC, I could find out the guys name he sold it too. I know the Sole broker was trying to get them. I had also listed them on discord in the sneaker knockerz group. Thanks. Awesome video!

Great job Vick. Only minor complaint is that for SB factory lacing, for the second holes the laces go over in, not from under, then repeated up. Hard to describe but you know when you see it
