for a frame insert like you were doing you can just use JB weld - steel stick or something - you can shape in however you like. after sand and paint. Its about the same process you did with your carbon fiber repair - but with a resin putty. and it would yield a nice result - great build - nice to see an old bike updated with more modern components - and I think Tiagra doesn't get enough love it's an amazing groupset.

I restored the same bike - 2005 OCR C3. The frame was in good shape but the original 105 drivetrain was shot. Went with a Sora drivetrain and FSA carbon crank from ebay and splurged on Fulcrum racing quattro rims. I didn't think the Shimano brakes were long enough - I guess they are- so went with Tektro long reach. Rides great. Your bike looks great without the graphics, BTW. That might be next.

Do NOT press the mekanic stand clamp directly on a carbon frame !!! Small cracks can build on that place that Will be bigger untill the frame seattube cracks / snaps in half !!! Use a aluminum seat post instead !!! And use the clamp on that !!! I have seen frames explode in halfe because of that !!!
@jamesconroy70303 жыл бұрын
And to make it worse, he clamps it on the wrong side first, then in the next scene it's clamped again the other way to crush it all the way around, plus it's an even worse to clamp it without the post inside.

I did the same with a 2011 Ridley X-Fire that I found at a pawn shop, rebuilt her into a gravel bike with SRAM Force 1X drivetrain. Added all red anodized titanium hardware. Came with Fulcrum racing 7 wheels and put some Donelly tires on her. Put a Garmin Explore out front to track my miles. She’s light and incredibly fast. Fun video, thanks……Rob K ( I can’t believe you clamped into the stand like that, please be careful and use the seat tube. Carbon doesn’t hold up to that kind of force.)

Always clamp the seatpost in the stand instead of the frame! Clamping it hard on the frame, if it is a lightweight and/or carbon one can cause it to crack, seatposts are much better since they are designed to take clamping forces.
@proffesorDub3 жыл бұрын
This is just a myth. if your scared to clamp a frame tube for fear of braking/damaging it, please don’t ride the bike. Your just trying to hold the bike still, not crushing it like an empty can. Clamp wherever you like, put a cloth between clamp and bike to avoid scratching and just use an appropriate amount of force.
@MrJonas22552 жыл бұрын
@@proffesorDub Absolutely not a myth, I'm a bike mechanic and I've seen plenty of customers destroy their carbon frames doing exactly this. Carbon does not like being clamped, it isn't designed to bear loads like that
