Skipper's Road is known as one of the most dangerous roads in New Zealand which is carved into the mountains of New Zealand's South Island. This isn't just a scenic route; it's a test of skill, nerve, and a true adventure for the riders.

In April 2017 I left Australia for a solo trip around the world on a BMW F800GS. I named it “Are We There Yet” because I don't know my final destination or the duration of this journey.
Throughout my journey, I'm raising money for a young disabled child in Poland named Franek. Franek was diagnosed with cerebral palsy (weakness of the entire right side of the body) and he will require constant rehabilitation for the rest of his life. All the money raised will go directly to helping Franek and his family lead as normal a life as possible so please donate generously: gogetfunding.c...
None of that would be possible without my official sponsors:

You have some serious guts, riding that road. OK, at least you aren't in a car... It is not just one of the scariest, it is still ranked the scariest and most dangerous in New Zealand. In fact, rental companies used to forbid you from driving on it and most insurances didn't cover your vehicle on Skippers Road. It was built for the gold rush and it's crazy to imagine all the wagons coming in and out of there with gold a way back then. There is a video on my channel of Queenstown and Wakatipu region from 1954 (a tourist promotion video) and they show Skippers and discuss it a little. If you are in NZ for much longer and have the chance... I recommend Dansey's Pass (make sure to stop in at St Bathans too) and the Hakataramea roads.

Yeah Right! Taniwha - water spirit, monster, dangerous water ceature. chief, powerful leader, something or someone awesome. Taniwha take many forms from logs to reptiles and whales and often live in lakes, rivers or the sea . They are often regarded as guardians by the people who live in their territory but may also have a malign influence on human beings. (Te Aka Maori dictionalry)

So happy to see Skippers Canyon road from a Bikers point of view, last on that road was white water rafting down the shotover river ! The most exciting part was the minibus ride to get there, driven by a barefooted newzealander and towing a trailer what a road, well done and I like marmite with peanut butter also 👌

too bad if you have 2 car's opposing each other-that wouldn't be fun having to back up on that winding road with steep drop off's-just as well you on a motorbike. I've done the skippers road by tourist bus but never on my motorbike. You beat me to it. Might have to wait till the summer school holiday's when I'm off. It was certainly on my bucket list.

Hedgehogs can be very noisy at night SNUFFLING about sniffing for juicy tidbits like slugs & snails and any crumbs from peanut butter and marmite rolls. The Skippers Canyon Road is not so bad at all in good weather, as long as you go with the flow - Down in the morning and up & out in the arfo. - Luckily you didn't meet any of the ravenous Otago Dredge Toe-Nail Vampire Bats that are a small flying ratlike that creeps into your sleep area on moonlit nights and devours lonely tourists starting from the toes upwards ..

Nothing very dangerous about this road unless you do something stupid. Its a fantastic ride and well worth doing. I have done it to the end and camped out on a road bike twice. Most dangerous part is the traffic on a very narrow in places gravel road. My advice is leave after the tourist buses are finished for the day and get back out in the morning before it starts again.
