I Ruined My Boat Engine (Oil Leak)

I hate to make this video but I destroyed my boat engine after just 9 outings. Either a hose was never tight or became loose and leaked oil into the bilge of my boat. The bilge can actually hold quite a bit of fluid even with the plug out and obviously there isn't any water in there with the fresh rebuild I did. So basically the oil got pumped out of my boat engine and when we were on the water the alarm went off. I had to limp it home but the damage was too severe and the engine is shot. This is the damage that I found. Massive fail.

Ha. Ya it was a bummer no doubt. But it turned out ok in the end as you will see. Bought some new parts and it runs great now. I try to roll with the punches when I make mistakes.

Ya it was a heartbreaker especially because it was all on me. Gotta just take my L on this one. That said, she's already up and running again. This video was from June. Stay tuned because it's new parts now not old junk. And it won't take 10 episodes either haha. Appreciate you hanging with me though! Means a lot.

Hi there I just had the exact same oil leak from the same spot and it also ruined my engine. Can you tell me if the motor seized? How long did it run for without oil? Would love to hear your response. Regards David

It never seized. But it sustained damage quickly without oil. Won't last long at all. If you suspect it ran out of oil, cut the engine oil filter open to see if there is metal in there. I have a video about that process as well. But to answer your question, it ran for probably 10 or more minutes to get home just limping and would have run longer but I didn't want it to be completely scrap metal. Even though it eventually was.

@@605BOLT thanks for your reply. Yes after seeing what happened to yours I'd say mine will be the same. Mine is a 454 big block so can only hope they have a stronger big end than the small block. It ran completely dry under power for about 5 minutes. Loss of oil pressure resulted in loss of engine power due to no oil pressure to drive the hydraulic lifters. When I get time I will cut the filter open to see if Its full of metal. Fingers crossed it isn't!!

Anytime you lose oil pressure immediately shut down engine. If you would have towed boat back to dock. You would of not destroyed engine.

Ya. I'm aware. It was just one of those times where you gotta do what you gotta do. Sucks though because it was a lot of work to fix.
