Having taken a number of long trips, the 2.4 gallon tank is about perfect, because it makes you take a break every 1.5 hours or so. Those breaks are important for maintaining focus. I carry a 1 liter camping fuel bottle full of gas. I put fuel stabilizer in the gas, and just put it under the seat and forget about it. On two occasions I couldn’t find a gas station when I needed it, and that 1 liter of gas was enough to keep me going long enough to re-fuel.

Great video. I have the GTS 300 HPE Supertech and have just completed a 1,500 km tour of the north Island of New Zealand. There were fantastic backroads as well as motorways to contend with and no problem at all with the 12" wheels. It felt stable and safe and I could easily cruise at 100-120kph....so, don't worry on that issue. I had a rack and a pretty big bag strapped to the back too. It makes a brilliant touring machine.

If you're worried about losing the key, get a spare from Scooter West. Their video on how to "pair" or program the key is pretty straightforward and really well done. You can get the key cut at a good local locksmith for really cheap. Sure it's going to be a $50 spare, but better to lose the spare and keep the originals safe.

Congrats! Regarding opening the glove box, I don't know if this is something they have changed over the years, but I have a 2014 GTS and I don't have to have the key in the ignition to open the glove box. I can just push inward on the entire ignition mechanism with my finger and the glove box will open (as long as it's not in the "locked" position). Give it a try. And you're absolutely right, the underseat storage really should fit a full face helmet, especially for the size. The underseat on my teensy 2002 Yamaha Vino 50 fit a full face fercripessake! When you're ready to fork out even more ridiculous money for accessories, the large top case does comfortably fit a full face (mine has room left over for gloves , a cover, and a light rain jacket). And if you decide to go that route, I recommend removing the lock from the top case and taking it to a locksmith to have it rey-keyed so the ignition key will open it. It's definitely worth the $10. It'll save you having to carry around 2 keys for the next ten years.

The new maxi scooters are very difficult to find, I was lucky to get the 2022 Suzuki Burgman 200, it’s a fantastic scooter with decent freeway speed. I was thinking about getting a Vespa 300 but the lighter weight and the smaller wheels were all concerns when traveling on the freeway, then there’s the cost. You have to be careful when considering a scooter for freeway travel, a big engine does not automatically equal safety. Also, due to speed limiters the Vespa 300 has a top speed of 85mph. I reached 75 on my Burgman 200, that’s all I attempted, it was very stable too.

I just bought the exact same scooter you have. Same model etc 2 weeks ago. Just put over 100 miles on it learning to ride. I just turned 71, am 6'7", and weight 260 lbs. Never had a bike before. Because of the bottle neck with our economy right now I bought this because it happened to be in stock but the more I researched the scooter world I realized this was a gem and high quality. My 74 year old brother has a Piaggio BV 250 in Toronto for 14 years and still loves ridding frequently. I will say that the cost of ownership will be higher because of Vespa's more frequent maintenance schedules with more items at each iteration also. I added a matching top box when I bought mine here at the Downers Grove Illinois shop. That holds my full size helmet and more. Today I just installed a large windshield/windscreen for the fall season as we're getting cold around here in Illinois. Love the way it handles and keeps me warmer on the body and hands even with that large of an addition. Enjoy the ride and thanks for publishing this. I'm with ya!

Love this video! My bike is the same year racing green version of this model. When I heard your comment about you forgetting to cancel the turn signal, the mod that fixes that problem is the SignalMinder SM-2. I'm sure Scooterwest has them. It is an auto cancelling unit for the turn signal as well as giving you four way running lights and light flashing when the brake is applied. You have to modify the turn signal switch which is an easy mod, or Scooterwest will sell you a switch that is already modified to a momentary switch. I have it on my Racing Sixties and I love it. For storage for your helmet, just get the color matched top box that is made for that bike. Finally, for this bike the modified ABS sensor tone wheel is a must. The stock HPE's are speed limited and come from the factory with an inherent speedo error. The after market tone wheel simply replaces the stock one on the rear wheel, eliminates the speedo error and gives you 6 MPH more top end. Your Bianco White Racing Sixties is the bomb straight up!

If you’ve ever ridden away with the side stand down, you’ll discover it on your first left turn, just before you hit the pavement. Also the click sound on the Buddy scooters is terrific because leaving your turn signal on accidentally ( super easy with no audible feedback) is really dangerous because it can encourage other drivers to pull out in front of you, potentially leading to a crash. It’s amazing how many motorcycle review videos show the rider going straight down the road with his or her turn signal on. Both the side stand kill switch and blinker clicks actually can save you from a crash. I know this from many years of riding motorcycles that had neither. That’s an awesome looking Vespa!

I just bought a GTS similar to yours. It is great! Re the ASR light always being on… The ASR icon is displayed when the traction control is turned off. The traction control should be activated (icon off) when you start the scooter/ If your ASR icon is on all the time as you say the most likely explanation is that the ASR calibration procedure was not completed correctly. The manual has the procedure for calibrating the ASR to make it work correctly.

I had the same problem with the GTS I got 3 weeks ago. Took it to the dealer today for the 600 mile initial service and they did the calibration. Now the ASR indicator is off except when I turn ASR off, then the ASR indicator appears. It resets to ON (no ASR light) next time I start the bike; the ASR indicator should disappear when the ABS light stops blinking.

I have a 2006 Vespa GT200 that I bought used with 1800 miles on it. It now has 60,000+ miles. I have considered buying a new Vespa 300 GTS, but the HPE thing is a HUGE turn off. Vespa went backwards on the HPE. The cut the maintenance intervals in HALF. My 2006 has 12K intervals for major maintenance, like valve adjustments and belt replacements, and so does the 300GTS, up until the HPE. On the HPE they are now 6K miles. It's a VERY expensive service if done at a dealer, I can do it myself, but it would take several hours and over $300 worth of parts. I can't help but wonder why Vespa did that. Do they think the HPE is less reliable than the regular GTS, or is it just a way to scam owners out of more money? I also have a 1979 Vespa P200E manual shift manual clutch 2 stroke that I will never get rid of, and a couple of motorcycles. There are no new motorcycles that interest me, they are all super ugly. I ride cruiser style motorcycles, and there are no good looking ones available anymore. DON'T lose that key. It can cost you over $1000 if you do. You have to replace the entire computer. It's a worthless feature to me, as is traction control and ABS. I started riding at age 16 in 1975, and have ridden over a million miles on over 50 different bikes. I don't need or want that stuff. I can afford a new GTS300, since it would last the rest of my riding life. But I'm going to wait until I see what happens with this HPE thing. My GT200 has a matching Vespa top box, and I would want one of those on a new Vespa. If you want a scooter that you will be happy with forever, the Vespa is not that expensive. It's about $1500 more than the Yamaha Xmax 300, but that is one UGLY scooter. All plastic, and matte black. I like bright colors and tons of chrome. There is no way you can replace a car with a scooter or motorcycle. It's just not possible. I use all my 2 wheelers for recreational riding only. The car is for everything else.

@@ScooterNewbie No worries at all! For what it's worth, when I went to check out the GTS 300, I actually ended up getting a Piaggio Beverly 400 instead. Mainly because it has more power and is better suited to the highway, but also because it has a remarkably comfortable seat - it's also strangely less expensive than the Vespa too. It is a bit bigger and taller than the Vespa and more beasty around town. But those are ok compromises for me. I may eventually do a video review of it on my fledgling KZbin channel.....
@kabardinka13 жыл бұрын
The unibody construction of Vespas has pluses and minuses. When you get a dent on your scooter (notice I didn't say 'if') unibody scooters are way more difficult and expensive to repair. To the point where many people with modern Vespas never repair dents. My other issue with Vespas is with having to lift the seat to fill it with gas. I'm a big fan of going camping on my scooter (which is a blast), and that gassing up arrangement makes it infinitely more difficult to pack. A last point I would say is... if you really need to ride on freeways to commute, don't get a Vespa, even a 300 GTS. 12" tires are just not great over 60mph. Get a Burgman or a Piaggio BV 350/400. Vespas are great scooters but not for everyone and not for every use.

I now have 3 scooters in my garage, and I did not set out on purchasing my Vespa, but it was a great deal (impulse buy) and I’ve always wanted a Vespa. Certainly don’t regret it. The Sprint is plenty powerful for me, and such a smooth fun ride!

You can add aftermarket audible blinkers for the scooter so you can hear the blinking. You can also add a 12v power outlet and UBS power outlet if the scooter doesn't have them. All these 3 are very cheap and easy to install. Just search on Amazon. I installed a 12v power outlet and UBS so I can run a small air compressor that fits under the seat and keep my phone GPS charged. I also carry a tire patch kit. My full face helmet won't fit under my seat either, so I just use the top rack storage.

As far as the turn signal not making any noise. I see that as a major safety concern. Personally, I definitely want to be able to hear my turn signal. Especially if I have to manually turn it off. I rode bikes for years from Bergmans to Honda 1100s . Many times they were my only means of transportation for years at a time. I don't know how many stories I've heard. And on the odd occasion, experienced it myself. When a rider leaves his turn signal on. Every car pulling out of a side road or parking lot. Looks and sees a rider coming but looks like they are going to turn in to the parking lot or down the side road they are turning out of. So many people say, "They looked right at me and turned out in front of me anyway!" Sometimes that happens because the driver thinks the rider is going to turn. You can even test this out while driving your car and see how many people will just assume you're turning and jump right out in front of you. Noisy turn signals save lives.

For your frame type and height a Sprint or Primavera would have been a better fit, but that's just me. They both have almost as much grunt and can reach close to similar speed of the GTS. I own a GTS and am 6.5', my wife rides Sprint S which is plenty for her.
@babolababs47323 жыл бұрын
Agree. I am a lady of similar stature and ended up with Primavera after trying GTS 125/300 and others. The power difference between 150 and 300 (278cc) isn't that noticeable when on the scooter, riding.

Disagree. I have 4. An S150, a GT200, a GTS250 (heavily modded), and a GTS300. My 5’4” 120# wife rides the GT. It’s perfect for her. We routinely get on the freeway and there’s a huge difference trying that on the 150. There is no comparison in speed. The 150 is lucky to keep pace at freeway speeds and the bigger bikes, well, it’s funny to see peoples faces in cars when a scooter passes them :)

Some years ago I bought a used 2014 Vespa 300 GTV for my CA house. Very fun scooter, but is not really happy above an “indicated” 70mph. I had a windshield made for the Vespa which makes it more comfortable at high speed. For my TX house I bought a new out of the box 2018 Suzuki 650 Burgman Executive a year ago (they quit importing them for some reason in 2018). The Burgman’s CVT is not a smooth as the Vespa’s, but it is much more competent at high speeds. There is a “Scootroute” app for your phone that will give you routes that avoid freeways which is pretty cool.

I have the 2018 GTS300 Touring model. That year the Touring model came with a rear AND a front rack. I mount a small/flat 1.3 gallon motorcycle fuel tank on the front one for long trips. I also disconnected the engine kill switch on the kickstand because I need to get off my bike and open a gate, etc and I don't need the government controlling the safety factors in my life. I also ordered the matching rear trunk for the rear rack (which is also part of the Touring model) and then I keyed it to match my ignition key. It holds a full-face helmet. I do ride the interstate and it will do 80 mph all day long. I liked my original 1976 Vespa with the manual clutch. You'd clutch it and twist the grip to change gears which was really cool. Be seen and be safe. I wear a safety yellow/green helmet, matching jacket and gloves! Also please put a Modulating headlight on your bike from Kisan Technologies. Most motorcycle accidents happen at intersections. A modulating headlight will make you visible as you are approaching the intersection, which is something that a steady headlight does not do. There's a lot of science behind that which I won't get into here. The second most prevalent motorcycle accident is being rear-ended at stop lights. Get a flashing brake light and the problem is also cured. And I sure hope Vespa someday puts auto canceling turn signals on the bike. My wife's Can-Am Ryker trike has that and it's so great!
@ScooterNewbie2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for making me feel a little less crazy. I get more comments than not on this video about me not loving the engine shut off kickstand. I just need to open my garage, and my smaller scooters have let me do this just fine! So I'm with you! I just installed some light upgrades, but I hadn't thought of the modulating headlight in particular. I tend to flash the headlight as I approach the scarier intersections, and it didn't even occur to me that there could be an aftermarket solution for what I'm doing without thinking. Seriously appreciate the insight on that!
@spydie2 жыл бұрын
@@ScooterNewbie Yes, I tend to disable that annoying kickstand kill switch on most every bike I buy but certainly on all scooters without a manual clutch (the Honda CT125 and other Honda bikes with the automatic clutch also). Have I ever ridden away with the kickstand down in the old days before these new switches on modern kickstands? Yes. But it never caused a problem. I just hear the kickstand as it contacts the road and I kick it back up. After all, you are moving forward so when it contacts the road is just pushes it back to up position. I think it's totally unnecessary. The Kisan headlight modulator came into existence in 2001 when the federal government passed the law that they were legal. The first couple years I got stopped by every cop in the US and I had to show them a copy of the federal law (which can't be infringed upon by state and local laws) and everything was cool, except one state cop in my home state of NM. He said if he caught me on the road again with it on he was going to write me a ticket. I tried to get him to write me a ticket then and there but he wouldn't. I contacted AMA attorneys when I got home and they really wanted to get him into court. I also contacted our state attorney general and spelled it out for him. He contacted the head of the State Patrol and told him what they couldn't do. He sent out a letter to all State Patrol offices telling them, "Don't ticket motorcycles with "flashing" headlights (they are modulating, not flashing, there is a difference. Flashing would be illegal.) because we don't have time to enforce the law." He wouldn't admit they "couldn't" ticket us, he wanted it to look like they were doing us a favor. But I never got stopped again. Oh, I have a few people pull off the road when they see me coming, thinking I'm an emergency vehicle, but that's OK. That just means they saw me and that's what it's all about. If anyone ever says, "I hate those flashing headlights" I just say, "Oh, then you saw me? Great... that's what they are supposed to do." ha ha. There's a scientific reason people don't see you when they are stopped at an intersection that I won't get into here. But it's legit and they can save your life.

I switched from 11 inch wheel scooter to 16 inch because of pot holes. I ride in all weather and at night too. If you are riding mainly in good weather on good roads. 12 inch wheels won't be a problem, especially if you don't ride at night. If you can see a hole, you can often avoid it or slow down or at least brace yourself (put pressure on your legs). But at night and in heavy rain you often know about the hole when you hit it!
