There are so many Moto vloggers doing the rounds on the same product(s)and it is good to be yourself. i agree i wear ear plugs and i do listen to the radio now and then, but most of the time it's me talking to myself lol enjoying the ride and seeing what's about. My phone is connected to my bike and i have a cardo and a tom tom satnav and that's it. I am hoping the weather is going to be kind on Tuesday as i have to go to Cheltenham for a tyre recall on my Triumph tiger. i will be trying out my new keis heated gear that i have had for 12 months and not used yet. lol Keep doing what you're doing

I agree with you Matt. One of the pleasures of riding , in my opinion, is to disconnect from the outside world and connect with your inner self. Time to reflect on things. I remember Back in the days when we only had photocopies of maps to navigate and once we got lost somewhere in the mountains between Naples and Rome because that part of the map got lost. That became the best part of our trip as we discovered places we never knew exist. Btw, nice little setup of the Thundercave.

Tech is useful on a bike at times. I bought a Beeline Moto for navigation, but really struggled with it when on a four day trip to France earlier in the year (there's a video on my channel showing the nightmare we had on one particular day). I bought it because I didn't want a massive screen on my Interceptor, but for me, it's just not quite enough - so I'm ditching that and will get a Quadlock for the phone. I'm only planning on using the phone for navigation though, although I do have a headset in my helmet I don't listen to music when riding. I've tried a few times and it takes something away from the experience of riding for me. So when I don't need to see a map, the phone will be in my pocket so I don't get distracted by flashing notifications etc.
@thebristolthunderbird13 күн бұрын
The phone for navigation is enough. I'd probably still be lost in Europe somewhere if it wasn't for my phone. More tech than that is not my thing though.

Although I used to enjoy very loud music in the car, as I was a Biker first even then I was uncomfortable at not being able to hear my engine or if other things were falling off the vehicle ! My current car doesn’t have a CD player so dilemma solved, I’ve given up listening to music in the car ! There is music in my helmet when I want it as I sing to myself, but I have no intention of fitting speakers in my helmet for either music or conversations, although I can see the advantages of the latter especially to stop getting lost or separated from your riding mates. Mostly I ride on my own anyway. I keep my smartphone in my pocket although a couple of times I have put my earphones in and listened to the satnav on the phone. I’m more of a maps person but I’ve found that quite useful to be fair 🇬🇧

I always wear earphones to protect my hearing. If I'm riding with a friend we have the intercoms running and chat about most of the time. When I'm solo I'll always have music playing in the background. I have a Caruride Apple Play display which I tend to use if I'm following a route I've not done before as the map is bigger and like the fact 'Scenic' (the nav app I use) tells me about speed limits. I bought a 1250GS largely based on the tech/display but it simply doesn't work. The only soution that works for me is CarPlay/Android Auto so now I look for bikes with the most basic dash. Although cruise control is a must for me, once you've had it you can't do without it. 😎

Disclaimer - I am plagiarizing one of my own comments that I left on a video on another channel but it fits perfectly here too:- Agree 100% Any distraction from riding is a negative and there is more than enough to occupy your attention without all the "technology" that some people can't seem to bear to be parted from for even a minute. I'm older now sure, but I just don't get it. Aren't the major draws of motorcycling freedom, adventure, discovery, escapism, being at one with your bike, the open road.....? That's what it always used to be. The perfect time to unplug from what is now referred to as the "grid", what we used to just think of as the noise of life, and exercise your mind and senses and experience some genuine, if temporary, freedom. Nowadays so many of these people riding bikes are obsessed with gadgets and technology - phones, GPS, bluetooth intercoms, action cams mounted on every inch of themselves and their bikes, "motovlogging", constant visual and aural distractions, staring at screens just like they do every other place they find themselves in? I'm not claiming that some of these things don't have any benefits but what happened to getting on your bike for an impulsive ride, just for the sake of riding - no planned destination even, just the thrill of the journey? I've lost count of the times that when I had a day off, I'd climb aboard and head off just to see where I'd end up and that alone has taken me from the top of Scotland to the tip of Cornwall and pretty much everywhere in between. Countless pubs, countless cafes, countless roads past lakes, mountains, cliffs, beaches, through untold cities, towns and villages, past forests, fields and castles, and probably millions of bends, in all weathers, mostly alone, sometimes with friends and/or a pillion. I've forgotten more places in the UK and Ireland alone that many people have ever or will ever see, hunting for the "perfect road" and still hoping that maybe one day I'll find it despite coming so very close so many times. I've had some extensive road trips in both Europe and the USA too, back in my younger days, from San Francisco and the western Pacific Coast to South Dakota in the east and all states in between, and from Texas in the south to Montana in the North. When I lived in the south east of England, a long day's ride could easily find me in the Brecon Beacons or the Yorkshire Dales, maybe the Quantock Hills in Somerset or Exmoor, the expanses of Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire or countless places on the coasts of Kent or Dorset, or Norfolk and Lincolnshire. If I had a full weekend, places like Dartmoor, the far south west of Cornwall or the Scottish Borders, were realistically achievable destinations as were the Pennines, the Lake District, the Dales, Northumberland National Park . Collapsing into bed at the end of such a day or couple of days has also given me some of the best nights of sleep, not to mention dreams that I'm sure I could ever have. Do it while you're young and keep doing it until your old - you never know when you're riding days might be over for good. Making memories is never time wasted and the road has so much to teach you about yourself. Your bike and the environment provide the sweetest music of all to my motorcycling ears. When I see people with their "smartphones" attached to their bars and a Satnav app I always wonder - is it really so vital aside from maybe the odd occasion when you need to find a very specific address? In the UK, we have some of the most comprehensive road signage in the world - you as a taxpayer and road user paid for it so use it. What happened to following your nose to all manner of wonderful and unexpected places and experiences - that special stretch of tarmac, that amazing view opening up before you, that wonderful cafe stop or perhaps a food van at the side of the road, listening to the wildlife and the steady tick of your cooling engine, cleaning the flies off of your visor and feeling more alive and at peace than at any other times? What happened to just opening the throttle and letting the journey take you where it will? Call me old fashioned but reading some people's comments it makes me wonder how on earth I've covered hundreds of thousands of miles over the course of more than four decades with none of these things to "help" me. Once upon a time, no matter the journey's length, you did it with none of these perceived technology "safety nets" that apparently are so vital. As long as you had some money in your wallet, a tank of fuel, your riding gear (including wet weather provisions), a pre-ride check of the basic fluid levels, lights, tyre pressures etc and, space permitting perhaps a road atlas and you were set. Phones didn't exist, GPS neither and "on bike entertainment" (aside from perhaps the Goldwing Owners Club Riders wobbling along on their two wheeled SUV's) was restricted to your own physical and mental sensations and stimulation. I prefer life that way and don't my motorcycling watered down or cluttered with extraneous junk. You can have all that in a car. So, if you're a younger rider, try a different approach for yourself. Just stick a pin in a map, if you own one, or just set off and let the mood take you wherever it takes you - it's nothing to be afraid of and the time is fast approaching that you're not going to be "allowed" such freedom anymore. Getting "lost" is all part of the joy of the open road and is frequently when you make the most amazing discoveries, and you might not even have to travel that far to make them. The beauty of our small island is that you're never too far away from anything, wherever you live. Go out and experience it first hand, I absolutely guarantee that it's 1000% better than anything you'll ever get from a screen, not to mention all the people you'll meet along the way. Whether you are a city dweller or a rural one, this country is packed with outstanding natural beauty - go and put yourself in the middle of some of it, it's your world to live in - for just a short while. I can give you all the reasons to go, so, the only remaining question you have to ask yourself is this: when you look back over your time, it's your choice, do you want a head full of memories or hatful of excuses?
@thebristolthunderbird26 күн бұрын

@@thebristolthunderbird Thanks for taking the time to reply, it's appreciated. Yes, I've probably worn out more than my fair share of tyres 😄As far as the stateside road trips, I was very fortunate to have been able to do them when it was still affordable and when I had a well paying job - "gas" was less than a dollar a gallon and the exchange rates gave us more than $2 to the £. I guess it's very different now and as for the cost of hiring a bike - I reckon you're looking at over $200 a day by now. Hardly within easy reach of the average Joe. Bikes are ugly, disproportionate, expensive and full of tech and options. Apart from Royal Enfield I don’t know what I’d buy new. CRF300L? Ended buying Transalp 600 after 15 years of not riding. And how does riding feel after so many years? Like peace, love and unity

That's good to hear mate. Yes, a lot of new bikes don't really do it for me either. Prefer a nice carb'd bike I can spanner on a bit.
