I sample at night -- MPC 3000 + Akai S950

I love vibing out to records in the late hours after my kid and everyone is asleep, and prepping samples to sequence early next morning. Tracks I make in the morning are way more precise and better mixed, the clarity that comes with the early hours. While listening to records is a great activity before bed, so I can just vibe out, and patiently wait for the right sample.

Yea School. My 4 outputs. Most definitely prefer to use a mixer when sampling going into my Sampler. And out from, into my mixer. I also use my Akai EIE interface, which I love. It's very complementary to my Bluebox. Do to the fact that I use the inputs in the back of the interface, for any racks, which targets the 4 inputs on the interface channels independently. Providing a great integration into my DAW. Great Setup.. Akai EIE Interface, which was released in 2013, is still doing its thing today. 2023.

I appreciate that! Being a dad helps, cause your kids give you real no BS feedback :) As for hacks...I just stay as diligent as I can about labeling zip discs. The name of the zip disc is saved in the name of my files. For example "Stuntman v2_zip disc 5A." That way when I need to pull up an old track, I know its on disc 5, part A...

Yes, I agree with you. But honestly...some people don't care about sound and convertors that much. They care about workflow and other features. Plus, you can improve sound within a DAW to make up for what the equipment lacks. I need to do less processing, because old MPCs are all about simplicity and sound.

Hmm..I would recommend getting a simple sampler (korg volca, roland sp404, etc.) and spending some time sampling and manipulating sounds so you see what's possible. You'll also need a record player and maybe a receiver (unless you get a sampler that can sample directly from your record player). Hope this helps. Cheers,

I think you should do it, as long as you know how. Allows you to mod things to your liking. I personally go to a tech person for complicated fixes. But if's its straightforward, its easy to learn how to do it yourself.
