Sometimes you watch a movie and when it’s over you realize you have just participated in a moment in history. 20 years from now people will be asking us what it was like seeing this in the theatre.

I appreciated your speaking to yourself in public space anxiety, as a fellow publicspacespeaking anxiety aficionado, you did great!

Couldn't agree more, especially with it being a tv series, just because there are so many great characters and sub-plots that were axed or abbreviated due to time restraints. That said not having it on the big-screen would've felt like an injustice in it of itself - so i dunno. I really only had one significant criticism of the movie, that being that the final battle - while great - was simply nowhere remotely near long enough. Think about it, we never once saw Paul actually in the fight, he only shows up when they blasted their way into the throne-room. All we saw of ANYONE in the battle was something like 20 seconds of Chani and then another similarly long snippet of Gurney in Arakeen! Sorry, the more i watch this film - the more this felt like a complete wasted opportunity and really kinda annoys the shit outa me. I mean, I'm not asking for "Return of the King" long, but as short as it was, you literally could have doubled it in length and it would have only added on a grand total of few more minutes of the film's overall run-time - that's just how ridiculously short it was! Anyways, like i said though - this movie was a masterpiece. It's not just the best sci-fi film ever made, imo it's definitely one of the greatest films of all time - regardless of genre!

Hell yeah. I agree with the reading on Paul's manipulation. He definitely starts out with pure vengeance, he says explicitly he plans to convert the non believers. Then he stands between the two groups and walks to talk to the edgy youth. That's obviously exactly what he said he'd do. But there's also the fact he relates to them more, because he doesn't believe. And he resents the methods of propaganda and subterfuge. But that's in tension with the comstant battle to survive on Arrakis and among the Fremen, and the fact he loves his father mother and sister. He wants them to live and he wants justice. All of these tensions push and pull later with also a true love of the Fremen growing to even overtake his personal quest to follow his father and instead he decides that his place is simply Fremen liberation. And then the stoey continues evolving etc.
