Honestly I'm happy with my 4080 super. I tend to only upgrade my gpu ever 3-5 years. I got a 1060 in 2017, 3070 in 2021, and a 4080s in 2024 so I probably wont upgrade until 2027 or so, but I know how to tweak stuff to keep it running as well as it can.

@@whssy you don't even need to spend that kinda money. I have a 4070TI Super and chose that over the 7900XTX. It's not nearly as expensive as the 4090 and yet you will get double the fps in Cyberpunk 2077 with the 4070TI Super, in 4K with DLSS Balanced, with Ray Tracing or 4K with DLSS in Performance, with RT, PT, RR. So the NVIDIA product wins in my book because you get 50% the FPS when you turn on RT on the AMD card.

Bro a 4080S is going to last as long as a 7900xtx will, both cards perform very similar with the 7900xtx endging out slightly in rasta, regardless of which one you choose they will last the same amount of time. You're not wrong, but I think you may be missing the point. The 7900XTX will do more further down the line not just because of slightly better rasterisation performance, but because of RAM capacity and FSR4 (assuming it gets implemented into the games people actually want to play - big caveat right there), and will thus maintain a higher resale value on the used market, as not only will it be able to do what it can do now - it will be able (on paper at least) to do some of the things that only Nvidia cards can do right now, which it currently can't. For people like me who only like to make a big investment every five years or more (I'm still rocking a 9900K - was going to get the next gen Intel soon after launch but still don't even remotely need it so not going to bother, especially with the burnout problems they have been having of late).

If they both end up with the same upscaler they are both in the exact same position they are already in however the XTX will have better image quality when using an upscaler compared to what it currently has now! This makes no sense... The upscaler won't add performance. It will add a better visual experience compared to FSR as it is. The vram argument is pointless as according to this video the 4080 and 7900xtx are 1440p or 1080p cards so 16GB for 1440p just ain't gonna be a problem during the lifespan of these cards..

Everyone back in the day said that 6700xt with its 12gb of vram was pointless compare to nvidia cards for the same price that came with 8gb but performed better and now those cards from Nvidia can barely run any games at anything higher than low/medium settings while that extra 4gb of vram is keeping the 6700xtx alive in 2024.

RTX 3080 is better performance than PS5 Pro and came out 4 years ago. These GPUs aren't obsolete, just because they aren't the latest. RTX 4080 will probably be similar performance to Xbox's next console. Good for a decade or so.

I'm still on the 1080ti. This thing once played games at 4k60+ with pretty much max details and now it's barely pulling that at 1080p med-low and that's ok with me really I don't play much modern stuff anyway a majority of my games still run fine at 1440p. Considering it's been over 7 years though that's impressive and I really still have no reason to spend more than I paid for this for a modern card that's 3 tiers down with barely any more Vram and a smaller piece of silicon. I don't think Nvidia ever nerfs their older cards through driver updates like what Apple did with their older Iphones through updates but generally AMD cards get faster over time with more optimizations over time while Nvidia just abandons their older generations to focus on the new one so their cards generally remains the same as they were during launch. Like how a 5700XT started out at the level of a 2060 and then was neck and neck with a 2070 a year or two later. Or like how the 6800 managed to overtake the 3070 and the 6800XT the 3080.

Great video. AMD has been saying their gonna re-intergrate CDNA and RDNA to UDNA ; I am expecting the UDNA cards will eventually replace all card level's. I'm gonna wait and see how the UDNA performs after it's out. This will be like in some ways going back to the roots. I pesornally feel that Nvidia has been selling a slightly scaled back workstation cards as consumer cards. Hopefully AMD can have good support for both use cases in a single series of cards. With AMD being the provider to the consoles and pc's ; I haven't understood why game developers don't have bettert support fort AMD hardware on the consoles and pc's.

7900XTX isn't going to age better than a 4080S. The only advantage it has is more VRAM which isn't a big deal until new consoles ship in another 4 years. Meanwhile PS5 Pro just got RDNA4 feature set to push more ray tracing. No problem for the 4080S but the 7900XTX is already dead on arrival when it comes to pushing RT hard.

I just installed the adrenaline driver 24.20.11.01 for my RX 6700XT featuring AFMF2 and i can tell you is fu.... amazing, and you can use it also in old games to increase performance . look at this Got of war Ragnarof with AFMF2 enable , 4k resolution , everything on High setting I got 80 to 95 fps on a RX 6700X? are you kidding me ? Street fighter 6 high setting , 4k resolution i got 100 to 120 fps with AFM2 enable , I play my games in big 85inches 4k tv /60hz/ my set up is Ryzen 79000X/ddr5 at 64000mhz

Are you rage farming? You should be mindful of providing bad advice in the name of clicks my guy =/ 4080 will be just fine for the next 3+ years. Suggesting differently isn't doing your audience a very good service. I fully intend to keep my 4080 until at least the 60 series; quite possibly 70 series. I've more important things to spend money on than the newest GPU tech, besides upgrading tech every generation is a good way to waste a ton of money. Also, there is no gimping of GPU's as they go along, you can verify this by running comparable benchmarks after updating. There are threads where people compare performance delta's from each driver upgrade across a couple different GPU architectures (or there used to be, I have not kept up with this subject). Typically the performance driver to driver is within margin of error.

Im genuinly curious which card will last longer. 4080 or 7900xtx. It will probably depend on the amount of console games being released and implemented to pc too. But the past has unmistakenly shown that Nvidia just drops your access to new features as soon as the next gen comes out, while you can be sure that AMD keeps their support for a long time (GPU and CPU). That has been one of the major factors why I went for the 7900xtx over the 4080. Imo, such an investment of money has to go hand in hand with cross generational support and longevity hardware-wise.

@@Greenalex89 They don't actively exclude past generations from new technology. It's obvious ray tracing launched a bit early since Turing can barely handle 1 RT effect. NVIDIA got the ball rolling by getting hardware into consumers hands. AMD talking about FSR4 with machine learning for 2025 but Turing users (2018) got machine learned upscaling that doesn't suck in 2020 because of the specialized hardware. 4000 series introduced Shader Execution Reordering and it's based on physical hardware. Same for opacity micromaps and displacement micro meshes. Hardware based innovations like this lead to performance gains when combined with software but there's no simple way to backport these innovations. 4090 is going to age like fine wine. Yes the newer cards will be better (aren't they always?) but now we are at a place where playing path traced games are possible. The 24GB of VRAM is good for the foreseeable future and PS6 will be lucky to match the 4090 in another 4 years or so.

@@Phil_529 I think they do. Just as they excluded gamers from more VRAM-having GPU models for asian miners during the crysis (no joke) or lower tier cards from VRAM in general. And VRAM is cheap and easy to add. But a 2000$ GPU is something only a few people are willing to invest. It better should age like fine wine..The price is a joke already and the absolute atrocious power connector will most likely prevent it from being a good investment for a longer time. Repairshops are overflowing with 4090s constantly. Im talking about the lower tier cards though. So far its an unbearable performance impact for not much visual improvement and 1000$ for 40 FPS with fake frames and upscaled images in 3 decent games just doesnt cut it for me. But I get ur points. Im curious what the next gen is able to offer. From all brands.

nah vram def affects performance you should know that. The 4070ti was originally the 4080 12gb and the ti super has improvements in vram hungry games. Try raytracing hogwarts in 1440p with 12 gb and you'll see exactly what I see

@@TriPBOOMER fake though, i've moved from an xtx to a 4080S and the difference is 50 watts at most at stock settings. the only way the xtx use 100 or more watts is if you overclock it where efficiency goes down the drain with rdna 3 cards (the reason i switched is because the powercolor red devil xtx had terrible coil whine under high load, i could have gotten a different one like the sapphire nitro but at that time the 4080S just launched and i was like might as well get it for the same price as the nitro for all the fancyjunk nvidia features)

There are some things the 7000 series has more to offer. Mainly AI and AV1 encoding and they have faster more effiecient cores within them. Blah blah you get the point.

I like AMD gpus I use AMD gpu. However I think Nvidia is better. AMD have great FG and FSR4 probably will be good as DLSS but the same AMD sucks in some DX11 titles such as Valorant/Fortnite. Shader cache building takes forever in those games. And Reflex is much better than anti lag and it works even with GTX 900 series

When the 7800 XT came out it performed like a 6800 XT and the price was preferable - I think it still is looking at it currently (UK side) as they sell for the same with the 6800 XT still selling for £100-200 more in some cases oddly). Mostly I understand these extra AI cores as being able to process 'bulk loads' that are advantageous to machine learning (don't ask me). I believe they allow the card to work with LM Studio and for large language models and such. I can't remember what I updated some months ago to do with ROCm, but I have it installed. I'm a usually writing some essays on A.I (or at least the topic comes up a lot), but I have not used local language models yet. Not even ChatGPT, what monster would I be creating locally!? Honestly, I'm not sure how to use them, would I feed it a load of philosophy (simply dump text and books into it) and have it infer answers those through my queries? I'm not quite sure how I'd train them. I realise this is what the 'sleeping' VRAM that does not currently get used in games is also potentially for. edit: I suspect however that if there is any uplift from RDNA4 it might be elementary for RDNA3... like the ray tracing performance on _any_ Nvidia card below a 4070 ti Super to date... like for 70% of current RTX users who have bragged about that sign value s***e for the last 5 f***ing years. Currently, a limp dick they overpaid for. I'll pay for RTX when it works for a reasonable price, not sold as a tantalus - the 4080 Super and the 4090 simply do not exist in this realm. They can _have_ RT/PT at 'around 40fps' at 1440 at 27" on their particular GPU. Saving the extra £400-500 in the budget while skipping Nvidia this turn paid for a nice 165hz HDR10 1440p 32" QHD panel and another 2TB Gen4×4 NVMe. Shame the 4070 ti Super came out a bit late for me, perfect upper mid range specs and almost biteable price for me. Might have gone for it (still may, depending)
