This video speaks to me. I also wanted a 90s station wagon to run around in. I scrounged up a 1991 Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon complete with fake wood paneling. It took me quite a while to find one in decent shape and I found some frame rot after I bought it. Nothing serious, but I need to fix it. I feel your pain.

I have a 1982 BMW e21 and its been one thing after another. she is clean tho, but needs a respray soon and rust is starting to show in places. I have done most things on it including replacing all the wheel bushings, anti roll bar bushings, exhaust mounts, new alternator, new water system pipes. Hopefully getting it resprayed this year, maybe at end of summer. And last but not least going to get the piston and piston rings replaced with new ones and the valves also. But she is a project and people seem to admire it when they see it which makes it feel very worth while. 77k on the clock. The only thing that is frustrating me is rechroming the bumpers and window trims are very costly more than respraying the body :O

I feel for you. I had an e28 528i which I LOVED. Only a few minor things wrong. Vacuum seals in the HVAC were gone, speakers shot, small oil leak. Then the clutch packs in the auto went ($3000) then the engine overheated and dropped a valve into cylinder 1. The End.

I miss my 1994 e34 530i v8 automatic saloon. Body without rust, low kilometer, never crashed, have no engine issues. One problem that I faced was only the master brake that was leaking because the previous owner used atf power steering oil, while the oil that should have been used was chf11. but I had to sell it last year because it wasn't suitable for me who had to work every day and use the car because very bad gas consumption in city driving

Frank needs boost. Almost done with my turbo s52 e39it. That non vanos has the best valve train. And best rods. Put in solid lifters and redline at 8500-9000... you can even add vanos to that head with a little work... great starting point. Begging for boost

I had one oxfordgrün 1995 525i touring with leather interior...my first car,it eas awesome,altough it was missing catalytic converters,muffler dropped down,horn didn't work,airbag light was on,passenger side Electric window didn't work and it had sometimes misfires 😀 Damn,i miss it!

4 days ago i bought an e46 with 111k miles, its the 330ci, complete with hardtop extra over unused soft top. Thats the good bit. Bad bits include mould, the foglamp fell out after 6miles driving and exploded under the front wheel and knocked a side skirt loose and a suspicious noise, which could be a flap in the exhaust or a solonoid on the gearbox. 2 bulbs have gone so far Then the 1st owner had a mrs who trashed the paintwork, and seats look like they did 300k, my A5 leather with 143k is virtually perfect except on the drivers seat side. Mind you, paying £8 to fix a light is abit cheaper than for the audi which cost over £180 for a dull headlamp. My mk2 jetta witg golf gti front end was double the brightness, and its 15yrs older than the bmw is now.

Had a red e34 estate (hellrot collor) 5 years ago, it was such a cool car, with white leather interior and made a crazy cool sq audio install, but my god, the expenses towards bringing it back to life still to this day haunt me.. Eventually it just kept on demanding more things to be done and invested to so had to sell... Sooo have fun! :D still a badass of a car

You can use the loom out of an E34 sedan dash from fuse box to cluster, easier to find as well. Only difference is the length of the harness for the body control unit, worse case you can remake the harness by copying the original if the body ecu itself isn't smoked.

I went threw few BMW's,E30,34,39,E60,tempted by the looks and that feeling of solid quality. Endless and neverending pouring of hard earned cash. Yes,they drive well,yes,the look mean,and yes,at first sight they look solid. The truth is else. While the fit and finish is superb,and the interior is top quality,the electronics and other peripheral components are very fragile and expensive to maintain. And with age,you won't spend a day without the need to replace something. Well,now I got Lexus GS 300. Got 260 000 km on it,it's 2002 model and the only thing I had to replace was the power antenna. And that's it. Fantastic engine,fantastic stereo ( stock) and fantastic ride. Yes,it doesn't have the mean looks,but couldn't care less. I can go around the Earth with that car. Keep your gangsta BMW'S and spend all the money you earn. Not me.

I love e34s, they're great and you should stick with it, I've had 3 of them, maybe one day I'll have another. Ah yes , the door lock problems I forgot about those. Had that on mine and it was only 10 years old at the time! Viscous Fan coupling is another fun job...

litterlaly my daily driver...with the slight addition of AWD (I have the E34 525ix touring). With 360.000 km on the dial, still the perfect daily driver, OK I paid a bit more purchasing (around 4000€) but it is in superb condition for its age, everything works fine. Only disadvantage is it's an automatic, I owned a manual but somebody crashed into it and it now serves as a donor...could be a project car though (it still drives, just not roadworthy). We were thinking of making a pickup out of it... 2nd car is a E30 325ix (yes I have a thing for AWD) and it's banger...best car I ever owned... Alex, feel free when all this Civid-Thing is over to pop over to Belgium to have a drive...or pick up some spare E34 parts ;-)

If the suspension feels soggy and wallowy on the road then you have a myriad of knackered bushes. The E34, even the touring, should feel tight and responsive yet ride well and be almost cosseting. I'll lay very good odds that the whole rear suspension set up needs to be re-bushed. On the up-side, good quality polyurethane bushes are readily available and really aren't all that expensive, and you'll have a choice of comfort, which are the same compliance level as the standard rubber parts but last many times longer, or sport, which will really tighten the car up at the loss of some ride quality. The steering should also be nice, tight and direct despite being a box system, but the sloppiness could just be down to worn ball joints as the boxes themselves are usually extremely robust, as long as they haven't developed a leak and been allowed to run dry, which will kill the box...

I've been searching for YEARS to find a decent E34 Touring but I don't think they were sold in Belgium :( I have a friend in the UK that has both an e34 saloon as well as a touring, both 540 v8's, 6 speed manuals. He might have some parts you want, but he doesn't like to sell the M-bits though :/

It's funny. The E34 was considered such a reliable Car when in comparison to an E39 or in fact, an E60. Yet so little left. Probabily due to age and rust. I currently own two E39 touring's. I'm currently in the process of buying a late model 95 E34 525i Sport Manual saloon in daytona violet from a mate. running genuine e46 M3 wheels. Rust appears to be the real enemy with these older BMW's, something that you dont see on E60's. Timeless designs these E34's. I personally think the E39 is timeless too! Is a car that has faults character of just an inconvenience? I for one think its character. Anyway...

They were an alright motor but as with any high end marque servicing one to a decent standard was not the cheapest so as they aged people would just find more ways to bodge. Looked after right they go on for years but by the N’th owner, probably on some ropey council estate, neglect flourished.
