60-70 hours labour for the bodywork and £1000 paint and materials is complete bullshit. A caravan crashed into my Mitsubishi Lancer fairly recently. Place like this quoted £3500 or so to replace passenger side door and wing, wanting something similar for labour and "paint and materials". I went to a scrapyard and got a mint door and wing, and got them fitted by the lads, £150 for both and £120 labour. Then I got the huge dent in the pillar filled and painted by another independent guy for £200. Made a profit off the insurance claim since it was a write off. I might kindly add: Engine vacuum hoses, Glowplugs and ECU, new or good usedInlet manifold without swirlflaps, new AirMass sensor, a whole set of bushings for the control arms or new ones, integral bearing, diff bushings, oil change for everything, new rear axle mounts (Tonnenlager), 4 new shocks and coilovers, you might as well throw in 4 new wheel bearings. Let the PCB of the parking heater repaired, as well as the dosing pump. Also a set of new fuel pumps couldn't hurt as well, also a new inline fuelpump. As well as a return quantity test of the injectors, get them at a Bosch service overhauled, clean out the intercooler. Then: new Condenser for the AC, filling for the AC, new dryer bottle, desinfeciton, also I would add new gaskets for the AC, then some matching interior trim pieces, leather cleanup, fit in a new leathered 3 spoke steering wheel. Add also a new seating detection mat, that might fix the Airbag issue. Bumper front and Rear as well as hood and doors might be suitable with used parts. The headlights can be repaired with DJ-AUTO glasses from the internet, or send them out to someone that does. Also let then replace the reflector holders, as they tend to go bad more frequently in the FL headlamps. That should do the job for getting the E39 to a fully OEM spec. :D Also check in the spare tire compartement, there tends to be some rust issues because water gathers in that cavity and then it rusts like crazy...

My E39 is also a money pit, all sorts of stuff wrong. Like how a pulley got completely destroyed while driving. It was so bad that the belt came off and got shredded. No power steering and no water pump. I’ve fixed it all up, now I have to do the bushings and fix some minor stuff. Previously it had all sorts of problems with fuel, all fixed up now. My advice, don’t buy one unless you intend to fix it.

That bumper is fairly easily repairable get yoruself some fiberglass kit. Bonnet probably not too bad either. Arch bonnet etc just get better condition ones from a breakers for a few quid

If you go to another mechanic or do it yourself you do it for much cheaper, and the exterior parts like doors and bonnet and bumper can be repaired easily not replaced with new and also if replaced from demolition.

It’ll be worth every penny to keep one of BM’s finest models on the road! E39 is by far the best 5 series ever produced! #savedave!

Please find a spnosor and do a series of restoring this bmw. After restoring this beauty sell the car and donate the money for charity. It will be amazing to learn and watch the series and it’s for good causes. Big ups and greetings from Estonia❤️

I own a E46 320D fl- With a lot of problems too and a very, very hard every year MOT here in Austria. And I have to say: It is NOT THAT EXPENSIVE, if u got a friend and urself know how to work on a car. GOOD Spare-Parts at the aftermarket and I am talking Meyle and original Part Manifactures here, are not breaking the bank. BUT if u cant even change a wheel, bether dont get an "old" BMW. And I have to say, if u take care of, u just have to replace a Part once (apart from cheaper Car-Manufactures like Peugeot and so on). I still got for instancea rust-free original exhaust, which is 19 years old.

Is it really worth it? Get a proper exhaust from an aftermarket shop that’ll do custom work (free advert on ur channel 4 a discount). Haltech ECU, mod turbo, new shocks, scrap yard panels, get it sprayed from collision repair students (bonus on price 4 student’s experience), scrap yard rims resprayed by same collision students all for less 💰 than previously quoted.
