This one had a couple of tiny glitches. In the preview part of his bow vanished. He fixed that. But someone noticed his beard coming unglued. No matter. These are excellent none-the-less.

I am convinced that Ed Sheeran wrote this song so that Geoff and his dwarfs could make it sound better when singing it

To me: from left to right: Geoff, Goff, Jeff, Jeoph. Goff gets the high parts. Geoff really let the “guys” shine in this one. I think he is trusting them more 😂😂😂. This is the first time he gave some of the best lines to the boys.

Awesome reaction as always Lieben. This is so beautiful. My favorite of his. I understand what you're saying and agree. In his premiere of this on Patreon he said that he was glad all the singers were available to come back and do this. Kathy had kept all the costumes and Rick Underwood kept all the beards and hair from Far Over The Misty Mountains Cold. She only had to get props (weapons) for the guys, other props, backdrop and a couple stools that they moved as he did each character. In the behind the scenes video when Kathy was helping him get dressed as the tenor (Bofur) he showed us the height difference between the two of them. She's 4'10". He's 5'11". But they love each other and that's what counts 😊

I was so happy when he told us that he was getting Dwarfs back together again. The guys were available, still had the costumes and Kathy only needed a few props. Rick Underwood had kept the hair braids, beards/mustaches. Only one movie to go.

Geoff just keep getting better and better. So does the lighting works of Eli, it helps so with the ambience of the video. It was dwarfes more than hobbits portrayed here. Fili, Kili Bifur and Thorin I believe.

You're making total sense. The first red-lit section gives me absolute chills. The dwarves (and the "clone" names) are, from left to right: Kili (Geoff), Bofur (Jeff), Fili (Goff), and Thorin Oakenshield (Daryl). Geoff says clone Jeoph took the video off. Rick Underwood did a fantastic job of recreating the looks from Misty Mountains Cold, reusing the actual hair pieces from that video. Kathy pulled the costumes and props together, reusing pieces from MMC, as well as from other videos, such as The Rains of Castamere. Fun fact: The snare drum sound was created using a shovel in dirt and in sand. Get ready for tomorrow (Friday, the 16th of June) for the release of VoicePlay's cover of In the Air Tonight!

I think what you're looking for is the finality of their actions portrayed so beautifully in the song. They know they're probably going to die, and it's for an honorable reason so they want their people to live on and remember what they died to protect. It's sorrowful, but you can see they are comfortable with their fate. He has GOT to finish out the trilogy with The Last Goodbye. Billy Boyd sang it and made me cry, and it's going to be even more heartbreaking listening to Geoff doing it.

Just as he did with Ain;t No Sunshine, Geoff can bring out emotion in a song with his voice and his harmonies that maybe was lacking previously. He is a master of his craft. And yes, it's much darker and more gut wrenching this way. Clearly no one else spotted that bit with the cloak as the first cut had the tip of his bow keep disappearing, so that had to be done again. Thankfully one of the patrons noticed and pointed it out.

IMHO, this one has the ominous mood in the beginning that the original lacks. And then it builds up toward that "heroic" kind of feeling, i.e. "We know that this could be the end of us all, but we KNOW this is what we HAVE to do, and we will, regardless of the price we'll have to pay". I confess that I'm not familiar with the movies, but I am with the book, and this version really fits in it. 🙂 Also, this version of the song goes straight to the very core of my soul and makes some very VERY deep strings resonate...which always brings tears to my eyes. 🙂 As both a Tolkien's AND a Geoff's fan, after "Far over the Misty Mountains cold" from the first movie and this one from the second, I wish that there will be a third one from the last movie 🤩. And why not an original from the Silmarillion? 😇 Loved your reaction and comments, as always. See you next time! 🙂

I agree with the feeling of 'something we MUST do' that comes across. One bit of acting on Geoff's part that always does me in (every time I listen to this) is just at the beginning of the red lighting, where Beardless Geoff looks off to the side and seems to take a swallow, as if his throat has gone dry, with a very slight pause in his singing (very small). That's pretty much when the tears start every time. It IS all very ominous. Especially that last line where it cuts off abruptly and goes dark. I also agree that 'for me' this fits the story of the dwarves better.

I also think he has really stepped up his acting game. It seems that most of Thorin’s lines are the dark ones. When he looks over at his fellow dwarves his expression is melancholy. It’s as if he knows what they have to do, he knows that they could all die and he’s already in mourning .

I totally agree with you... maybe because I've only read the book and have no intention to see the movie (I couldn't even get till the end of the first movie of The Lord of the Ring's trilogy 😂). In his work Tolkien builds an atmosphere with an underlying vein of sadness, that Geoff (and Eli's lights) is able to convey really well, an ominious forshadowing of what is to come... And of course I subscribe your petition for a Silmarillion original song 😊

@@silmarileldanna I haven't seen the Hobbit movies either 😅. I watched the LotR Trilogy, but didn't really enjoy the movies. Full parts of the books just removed (Where's Tom Bombadil and the adorable Baccador? Just to make an example), others moved in different points (like the Old Grey Willow Man, or whatever its name in English, from who Tom saves the Hobbits, moved within the Fangorn part... Grrrr), and more just changed, and gratuitously so, as they didn't add anything to the story. 🙄 I downloaded the Hobbit trilogy because of this song, but can't seem to be able to force me to watch the movies. 🙂 What about a Voiceplay version of the Ainulindale? 😁

Love your reaction as always. ❤ I do love Geoffs vision better, as I do feel the gloominess and deep sounds, fits Hobbits better. As well as the tekst is dark in it self. Even you only hear it at the end of the movie with the tittles running. Geoff do have a lot of patrons, almost as many as VP, why both him and VP have more funds to make better videos now. As they do it mostly all by them self, if not, there will always be Credit under the video. ❤❤❤

I have never read or seen the Hobbit but I still love this as the beautiful song that it is. The Geoff dressed in black sends shivers down my spine every time I listen to this. I'm assuming that's baritone range (I no nothing about music) but I just absolutely love Geoff's voice in that range. Of course I love his voice in all his many ranges but that one presses the buttons for me. 😊 Enjoyed your reaction as always LT.

While I've always enjoyed the original song, I was never extremely impressed with the original music video. For me, this video is much more in line with the feelings generated by the movie, and of course having Geoff x 4 on screen doesn't hurt it any! Again, personal opinion, from an overall arrangement, video, performance perspective, this is the best thing Geoff's done so far.

This song brings tears to my every time as the images of what the dragon is doing as they sing their death dirge. The music always sounded like wings pumping in the back ground the deep thunder of the wings sweeping up and crashing down. The horrifying shadow of death and destruction flying overhead. The line about the tunnels should bring more terrible images when you watch the hobbit and they find the skeletons grouped together in a room. All were burned alive in their own made golden tombs. This before we even know of the Balrag. This song I see warriors watch in petrifying terror of not being able to do anything but watch your friends and family be burned alive, eaten or dropped from the sky by that gigantic dragon Smaug who is there for their home and the vast wealth it holds because swords, knives, arrows are all useless. Greed begets Greed in this deadly moment. All you can do is accept the inevitable of a horrific death. Smaug came because of the massive amount of gold and gems the dwarves had collected , never happy with what they had. In the end Smaugs Greed was his demise by the greed of all races. Fabulous version he holds the tremble of fear in his voice along with acceptance of it all. I think it is now my absolute favorite. Ed Sheerens version is more like a bard singing the song in a tavern as others listen. This version is the Death Dirge of Dwarven warriors who have accepted they cannot do anything watch those they care about die before their own deadly demise.
