Great rendition! It's such a good theme for Shinji - he always felt like one of the bravest boys in all of anime, to me. He's just a depressed, neglected child who throws himself into hell on earth, again and again, because he can and the people he's protecting can't. He gets through the first two episodes, and still cares about people afterward? That's heroic.
